Melody, my dad would avoid stops on his drives and stop lights. He would choose the most efficient route. My mom liked to vary her route. One time, she got a flat tire when she was well off the beaten path and had to call dad for help. When she told him where she was, he said, "What are you doing there?!" I also like to take different routes for both different scenery and also for knowledge of alternate routes.
Happy birthday to your son, Ann!
Shelly, I had to read your first sentence several times before I was with you...!
My daughters had a few Alfred's books when they were taking piano but their teacher didn't use Alfred's that much. It probably wasn't around back when I was taking lessons.
Yay, I have tomorrow off...from my paid job. I have laundry to get caught up on.
Shelly - your dh sounds structured, that's so funny! I have been known to ask my husband about a card and he gives the best advice - very neutral, LOL! He's a pyschologist - he has to stay switzerland!
Catherine - I'm a lot like your mom - I need change and can't get stuck in a rut, I walk the dog and run in the evening and never take the same route. My family jokes if they ever need to find me, the won't. I tell that that's what the Find My Friends on the phone is for!
I have a MOUNTAIN of laundry to climb and dinner to prep for a dinner party tonight so I'll wave!
Here is the Graphics 45 journal that came in a kit, the blank journal and instructions and all the pieces already cut. It was very pricey, the instructions were not real clear, but I got it done, and I did learn some new journal tricks. The paper is beautiful, I may order the paper pad. I won’t buy a kit any more, though. Too much money.

Another gorgeous journal, Kandie! You do beautiful work. I had gotten into “junk” journaling to use up what I have. I have tried not to but anything, and really haven’t. I have tons of paper pads, papers, laces, ribbons, and odd items. I didn’t have guest checks, library cards, (thank you Ann & Melody).
Melody , I am off to see your M.
Roberta have a wonderful dinner party, sounds fun.
Pretty nice, so far DH doesn’t get involved in my crafting, he is afraid to come into my room because it is messy most of the time. He is very supportive, though. Maybe our craft rooms are our versions of a man cave. LOL
Great "Big M" Melody! I love all the steps it took to create it. Such patience!
Love your new "kit" journal Kandie. I think the ones you've created yourself are better than the kit! You keep doing you! You're amazing.
Kelly, hope you reached the top of that mountain! LOL
Shelly, my DH is architect and detailed oriented, but he is also very spontaneous and willing to go new places, try new things and always is up for a challenge. I'm very lucky because I'm very impulsive and a bit "off" as you all know! LOL We balance each other.
Catherine, enjoy your day off! Of course, we really never totally have a whole day off! Maybe the laundry elves did the wash for you...then you can play all day.
Happy Birthday to your son, Richard, Ann! Hope you had a good visit.
Sharon, how did your 2nd shot go? Are you feeling OK?

Shelly, he lost that new job after a week. Drank before he went in! He has ocd and anxiety issues and ever since his divorce, he's had a drinking problem. His ex wife is an alcoholic but he didn't start drinking until they got together. He caught her cheating by coming home early one night. That was in 2015. He is moving back in here with us. He feels safe here and hasn't had a drink all week. I got him some melatonin to help him sleep. Seems to be working. Its so stressful for me, but I need to help him through this. He and his dad are at his apartment moving stuff out again today. Will probably take another trip and then I'll go help with cleaning. Should be done early next week. This is the first I've been able to even talk about it.
My children aren’t OCD but they are hyper and drama queens, and the youngest has severe anxiety and PTSD. A parent has to do what’s needed to help. I’m praying for strength and wisdom for your family.

Kathy, I'm sorry for what you're going through. As a parent, I understand completely. The only thing I can say is that he needs to work harder than you are at achieving the life he wants. Being a parent never ends.
Happy birthday to your son, Ann.
I have Aurora, Ann. At some point, I may switch to Froedtert. I have had no outreach from them, except for a letter promising they will reach out. Doesn't matter any more.
Bravo, Shelly. Learning any instrument is so much harder as we age. I helped my granddaughter with her violin this weekend. I sucked at strings in college.
Lovely journal, Kandie. But I'm with you. I don't buy kits, because I would ALWAYS change them. That's what being creative is all about. I don't want to make what someone else designed. I may copy bits and pieces of other peoples work, but I just can't copy the whole thing. Much more fun to make it myself.
Happy birthday to your son, Ann.
Kathy, sorry you are going thru that with your son. It's so hard to see your kids mess up, but you can't live their lives for them. They have to take responsibility for their decisions. Praying for you.
Good morning (it is still morning here for another 18 minutes or so!) I've got the first load in the dryer, the second in the washing machine, and I uploaded another card and just gave myself permission to check in here. Next is dusting and vacuuming. Fun day lined up, right?!
Kelly, I hope you have conquered your mountain and on to the fun part of preparing for your dinner party. I was going to have my SIL, brother, and nephew over for dinner to celebrate her birthday which is tomorrow like Kathy's. However, they are flying to visit their oldest son today and will be gone for a week so we'll have to do it after they get back.
Your journal is beautiful, Kandie. You do such beautiful work. I agree, buy the paper pad and do your own thing with it. Your own thing is always fabulous.
Sharon, yes, I absolutely think that craft rooms are our version of man caves. My poor hubby has to deal with my stuff out in the great room because I want to be with the family.
My question to you and Kandie is what do you do with these beautiful journals?
Gracie, it sounds like you and your DH are a perfect complement to each other. That is wonderful!
Oh Kathy, I am so sorry! Sending you big hugs and lifting you and your family in prayer.
Jean, what instruments do you play? Did you major in music in college? And yes, parenting is a life sentence!
Yum to eclairs, Ann, I read that and my stomach growled! Happy birthday to your son!
I was a flute, voice and piano major. Had to take a semester of strings, trumpet, clarinet, percussion, low brass. Should have seen me lugging a tuba around. Only one I truly enjoyed and did well at was clarinet.
Those are my main instruments as well, Jean! (I didn't major in music though many people advised me to do so. I love music but didn't see myself as a music teacher.) I also play guitar. When I was choosing an instrument to follow piano, I was having a hard time deciding between flute and violin but flute won out.
I took a bit of organ - just until Mom realized I was only doing it for her and then she released me. I much prefer piano as does my DH so we had piano for our wedding, not organ.
Gracie, your card came today! I'm taking all my scs friends cards to card class and opening them during party time tomorrow!
Kathy, enjoy opening all your cards on your big day! Not sure if I will be on tomorrow, so wishing you a wonderful happy day!
Sorry to hear about your son. You are in my prayers.

Happy birthday to you happy birthday to you happy birthday dear Kathyyyyy, happy birthday to you. Hip hip horray enjoy your special day and card class. Now you can open my card lol
Kathy, sending lots of hugs to you and yes we never stop worrying about our kids and then it goes on with grandchildren. We also have had some challenges we had to deal with a long time ago with our eldest boy and in the end we had to let him take some responsibility and he did. It was tough love and for my sanity. It’s hard. Thinking of you all. Thank you for trusting us and sharing that. We are here for you.
Happy birthday to your son5 Ann. Hope he has a nice day.
I’ve missed a lot of chat this week. I must check out Melody’s M. Melody my DH is a retired engineer and joins all the other hubbies. I’m a control freak but he is very anal and precise. You should see how long it takes us to put a picture up lol. We are opposites in many respects and why we probably get on so well. I used to work for GE for a while before I retired. Loved that job and met a lot of people from around the world.
Sharon, glad your jab went well and anyone else who has had them.
Kandie, love those papers but I agree with the others that you don’t need kits and do fantastic journals.
it’s cooling down here too Jan..love this time of year.
Catherine and Shelly, I’d love to be able to play an instrument....I love the violin and piano. At our wedding, DH’s twin cousins played for us..the flute and clarinet...so beautiful.
I will be back next week. Busy period here, Happy weekend

Good morning everyone!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHY!!! Enjoy your day with your stamping group! I'm glad my card made it on time. Wow, the Post Office actually came through for once!
I am so very to hear about your son and will definitely add your family to my prayer list. One of my sons suffered from severe depression and alcoholism. He is in his 40's now and doing so well. It was a very hard road for a long time. HUGS and never give up hope!

Ann, your card arrived today! Perfect timing. I took all of my birthday cards along the card class and open them during snack time. You should have heard the oo's and ahs! My class friends were very impressed with all of my cards. I'll be back later to share more about that.
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Kathy, happy birthday to you! I hope you had a wonderful day and fabulous card class. I look forward to hearing about it.
I just had lunch and finished with a delicious maple bar.
I'll post here and the s2s thread about my cards. I waited until snack time at card class and opened each one. The ladies were so impressed! Each card was unique. No two designs or techniques! I had fancy folds (catherine, Sabrina), techniques (Jayne spotlighted poppies) and Victoria bombed with little flowers in a gorgeous fairy card. There were butterflies on cards (Kelly) and diecut butterflies in cards (from Ann). Other diecuts from Gracie, Jan, Catherine, and Sharon. A pretty floral card from Shirl, buckle card from Joan. My friends loved Jans slimline card and wanted to know how she did the cool background.A kitty card from Gracie. A bright rainbow of colors with a floral diecut from Ann. Ina used a gold frame and Lynn is the only one who knew I just turned 25 and farted glitter! LOL I hope I didn't miss anyone, but thank you all for such gorgeousness!
