You are most welcome, Kathy. I was glad Connie Stewart released her video with that pop-out fun fold card in time for me to make it for your birthday!

Good morning ladies. We're celebrating DD's 35th birthday - which is actually tomorrow, but Sunday is our usual day to get together. How did she get that old?

I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Good morning! It is a lovely, sunny morning here but I think it is colder outside than it looks. I looked at the extended forecast for here and it shows a possibility of snow on Wednesday! I don't think we'll get it, but we are quite happy to have cooler weather. Spring/summer were coming too quickly for us! I know, many of you want warmer weather but we have hot weather for so long around here that we appreciate the cold weather when we get it. It poured rain on Friday night, I even woke up a bit to hear it and then, in the morning, wondered if it really happened or if I dreamed it. Both girls confirmed that it rained heavily for a while.

Thank you, Jan, I had fun making it.

Gorgeous flowers, Dagmar.

Happy birthday to your DD, Melody!

Gracie, at least the video isn't really long!

Good afternoon, friends. I have been on a major cigar box session today. More about that below.

Ann, my mother and uncle were also alcoholics, especially once they each retired. It used to make me so sad to see mom open a can of beer at 7 in the morning. Dad told me it ran in our family. I feel blessed I never had the urge. Alcohol upsets my IBS.

Catherine, I’ve kept my first journal. Two were for Christmas gifts, one for DS in Arizona in a family tree format so he knows about all the illnesses in the family for medical records, and lots and lots of bits of history on all of us. One I gave to my ill DSSis yesterday, it’s full of butterflies and she loves them. One to DH’s DGD so she can put stuff in it (she’s 12). I just switched out my winter forest one on the end table for a spring journal, the Sherlock one is sitting on an antique desk, and now I’m working on this one for DH for his birthday next week,

Kathy, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I’m so glad you had great birthday fun at your card class!

Jan, DH still hasn’t kicked the after effects of his second virus shot. Or maybe it’s that blow to the head. He said he is so fatigued at times and still feels achy. He thinks it’s from the vaccine.

Jayne, DH and I butt heads sometimes, lol. I’m used to taking care of stuff myself, and I don’t need to call him to hang up a picture. Then he feels hurt. On the other hand, his automobile knowledge is phenomenal, so I bow to the greater intelligence on any car matters!

Well, here is the beginning of the cigar box journal. Photo one is after taking the box apart, (very old, wood and tiny nails). I glued down loose bits of paper and sanded the edges smooth. Photo 2 is covering the inside with Tim Holtz papers Photo 3 is after the larger holes were put in the covers with the Big Bite. Photo 4 is after using the “secret Belgian technique” of bookbinding (that everyone knows about, lol) and doing the sewing with a huge needle and the sari silk.

Afternoon all.

Kandie, your ideas for journals are awesome!

Kathy, glad you got showered with so many lovely cards.

Guess everyone heard that Michaels has been bought by Apollo Global Management-I think an investment company.

Had a nice dinner on Wed. night with my brother.

We are going to get together with friends for a walk this afternoon by the ocean. Have not seen them since Thanksgiving, due to covid. We might get rained on this afternoon so hat, hood and umbrella will be taken, lol.

Hugs to all and Happy Sunday!

Shirl.

Oooo, Kandie, the cigar box journal looks really cool. I love the binding. Is there anything besides the silk that holds the spine in place?

Just for fun I found an image of King Edward cigars - DH’s name is Edward - and made a cover add on using one of the side panels, then had fun scanning in our wedding photo and moving Ed’s head to King Edward’s body with a nice black sash over his shoulder. Got to love Photoshop, lol.

Melody, no, that’s the secret of the binding, it’s wrapped over and under the spine and pulled tight in the holes.

Kandie your cigar box is amazing. I love how you put Ed’s head on the Kings body lol. I’ve never heard of that binding but it looks beautiful.

Melody happy birthday to your DD. Glad she liked the quilt. Our youngest is 34...eek.

Happy birthday to your DD Gracie for this week...they do make us feel old lol.

Enjoy your walk Shirl. Good to get out.

after a busy crazy 2 weeks we can finally catch our breath and just chill for a few days. We are exhausted lol. It’s been so wet and now humid here that we haven’t done washing so that’s my chore for the next two days. Good job we have lots of undies and clothes lol.

waving to everyone. Happy Monday and week

Default Hello

Hi,
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

I walked with friends SAt AM, and then created and Zoomed : ) Late afternoon, we headed down to Chicago and Katie made us dinner. We had a nice visit then headed home, She was a bit achey and felt like occasional chills from her 2nd shot on Friday. Currently, they will stay remote learning for the rest of the year.
Slept very poorly last night- had 18.000 steps by the end of the day, and my hip was rebelling. Better today.

Shirl- wonderful you were able to get together with your brother, and also friends for a walk. I am the only one that has not been vaccinated in the group of ladies I walk with. Did your area open up for your age group yet?

Kandie- goodness that journal is so very cool! I have a couple of cigar boxes in my closet : ) Love that gorgeous silk binding too!

Catherine, enjoy the cool weather!

Melodie- I bet your DD was thrilled with her quilt! Hope your family had a fun celebration.

Jayne, I worked on laundry today as well. Hope you got it all done : )

Gracie- love that you do not get older when the kids do....!

My youngest just learned she got a Fellowship scholarship for the summer. She will be busy- she likes to keep busy...... I hope she can get a week off in the summer for a family gathering with siblings!

This week, I am getting up early every day to try to get myself ready for Colorado. They are an hour behind us, and we Spring forward an hour while we are there...Tomorrow, 9AM, Tuesday 8AM.......wish me luck!

Waving hello to all!

Shelly

Wow, Kandie, that cigar box is so cool! What an awesome journal you are creating - love how you put your DH's face on the king image!

Melody, of course your DD loved the quilt. It is fabulous!

I've been busy making cards. i just uploaded a sympathy card that I made today. I also made my samples for Wednesdays sketch challenge.

DH has been busy lighting up our house. He added a new recessed light to our hallway. DD1 said it was needed, it is so bright in the hall now with the light on. We did adjust the color of the hall lights today to a more warm light. Then DH went to Home Depot and bought a new LED light for our laundry room. It is FABULOUS! So nicely bright now. And, as DH said, it is brighter and uses less electricity because we are switching to LED lights.

Oh, and DH also replaced my burned out headlight on my car. He has just been lighting up our lives today!

Catherine, as that old song went, your future (or house) is so bright you gotta wear shades!

Shelly, congratulations to your DD on her Fellowship award! 18,000 steps?! Wow!!!

Jayne, I did laundry as well! And here’s a fun thing. We are watching the Big Bang TV show, I’ve never actually watched it, and in the latest episode we watched Sheldon is at the laundromat and using this folding board to fold his t-shirts. I said I’ve always wanted one, even have it listed on my Wish List on Amazon. The next day DH went to a soon-to-be estate sale house with the crew to see what had to be done, and lo and behold, there was a folding board there, so he bought it for me! I had a BALL emptying my drawers and refolding everything, lol. Like a little kid with a new toy.

Shirl, so great you were able to get out in the fresh air. It is supposed to get into the 60s today here. Has it warmed up where you are?

Melody, I agree that of course your DD would love that quilt! You did an amazing job on it!

Today I plan to make a set of papers for DH’s journal, but I’m not quite sure what to put in it? Any ideas, anyone?

And then I’m planning to work on my penmanship. My DD2 and I are both practicing with fountain pens and dip pens. She’s more interested in calligraphy. I want to practice Spencerian handwriting. Then I could write my own journal headings. But this darn right hand and the psoriatic arthritis are making it difficult to hold the pens.

Morning!

Woke to no hot water! And I really wanted a hot shower this morning. The fumes from my son painting the brick walls of the basement turned the hot water heater off! A great safe guard but sure didn't help for those of us that wanted to shower this morning!

Kandie, that cigar box is so cool!

Melody, my youngest turned 30! Where have the years gone? One of my brothers used to always tell me it would get better as my five sons were screaming and all running through the house. So strange how actually fast that time has come.

Kathy, so happy you had such a great time on your birthday and liked all your cards! What fun to open them with your friends!

Hugs to all today, enjoy your day!

Good morning! It has cooled down here - snow was on my forecast for Wednesday again today. I'm sure it will disappear as the day goes on and possibly be back in the morning again. Who knows?

Today I will run the Livestream for the memorial service...that should be interesting! In fact, I'm going in early to make sure things are ready for that. The service is at 11 am.

Shelly, good luck with adjusting your sleep schedule. I was thinking I should try to do that this week...so then I stayed up extra late last night finishing up laundry. That seemed to be the chore for yesterday.

Congrats to your DD on her fellowship too.

Jan, fortunately, DH was already well versed in electrical work. Both his dad and his step dad were electricians so he has a lot of experience.

Kandie, I really got a kick out of the Big Bang Theory. Funny show and funny that you had so much fun re-folding your clothes!

Speaking of pens, DD1 loves fountain pens. I've tried using hers and I didn't like it as much. Perhaps I should give it another try. That is so fun that you and your DD2 are working on penmanship together.

What does your DH like? Papers related to his hobbies would be good - if he has hobbies.

Oh no, Ann, sorry about your hot water. At least the heater doesn't need to be replaced!

Well, must go and head in early. Chat with you later.

Oh, Ann, sorry to hear you couldn’t have a hot shower. But, getting some painting done, nice.
I got three pieces of happy mail today; my teapot tickle, a card from Hawaiian, and a paper hug from an Alpha sister. . A good day for mail!

lovely today, almost 70. I walked amd saw so many birds! When I first start, usually I can just listen to the birds, then the later it gets, the more people on the path, and not as many birds. But it was gorgeous out, except for the wind! Supposed to be 80 later in the week, then back to cold again!
I am ready for nice weather to stay nice.

I have been scrapbooking, trying to do the CalvinBall Challenges on ScrapHappy. I would like to get some heritage scrapping done. Now I need to get my craftroom cleaned up so I can start another layout.
waving to all of you..

I am very thankful that one of our other pastors - who wasn't supposed to be there today because he was supposed to be gone fishing - was actually there because we had some technical difficulties that I didn't have training to handle! He helped get things straightened out so everything worked as it should.

Everyone must be very busy...well, Kandie is busy with her DH's journal, I think. Did you figure out what things to use for papers for it?

Sharon, it is cold here and raining. We have snow in the forecast for Wednesday. We'll see if it actually happens. I know they were having chain check for the semis headed through the pass. That is a good thing for our snow pack and water level.

I've been playing with today's technique challenge and have several cards finished but no photos taken just yet.

Kandie, do you have any papers that have to do with fire fighting? What other interests does Ed have. Also, you do realize with a digital image, you could flip it, right? So you could have Ed's head facing the other way, same as the king on the original label.

Just thought I'd mention... if any of you are on facebook, there is a group called: Happiness in Crafting. You can join the group and every Friday, there is a free digi pdf. Sometimes it's backgrounds, sometimes images, boxes, envelopes, etc. Mostly things that would work well for vintage. Administrator/creator is Gi Kerr. She also has lots of cool videos on YouTube.

Melody, good morning. I know how to flip an image, but the shadow on his face I tried to line up with the black on the uniform. The only photo I could find that would work had a black background. It’s tiny enough to look like he’s looking straight on but standing at a bit of an angle. I showed it to him already, he likes it.

Catherine, we decided to use the journal for a photographic ledger of all the cool projects he has made and the unique furniture we’ve found at sales, especially since that’s where he bought the cigar box. I’ll start taking pictures today and print them out and mount them on vintage dictionary pages. It should make a pretty nice project that we can add to over the years.

Sharon, glad to hear you’ve been scrapbooking! And it really was lovely yesterday here too, up to 67. We went grocery shopping, and of course I had to stop at HL, it was packed!!! Every register was open. Spring fever has hit the creative community. . If it wasn’t necessary to clean up the craft area first so a new project could be started, many of us probably would never get our areas cleaned up and stuff put away!

Good morning.

Kandie, I hope you didn't think I was criticizing, because I wasn't. The way you put his face on works fabulous. If I didn't know you had 'photo shopped' it, I would not have known from the picture. I just wanted you to know there were options, which of course you already know! Using the journal to keep a log of all his projects is a fantastic idea. I would guess we all have similar things that would be great to have a record of in a specific journal.

The weather word for today is 63. Yay. Of course, cooler weather is to follow. Yes, it's spring.

Kandie I’m intrigued about Spencerian writing as it’s almost my surname, ha,ha, our son bought me a calligraphy set but I couldn’t do it, I tried in lockdown again, I used to love my fountain pen at school, the one with the lever that you dipped in the ink to suck it up, then the cartridge pen, not so exciting .

you are all making me feel old seeing my sons are both in their mid to late forties!

it’s cold and cloudy today but no rain thankfully

Kandie that is a brilliant idea to make a journal of Ed’s projects, something for the family to look back on.
I’d have to do one of Steve’s awful jokes, he’s renowned for them, even the grandkids think he’s always joking when he tells them anything, . If he tells me one I’ve heard umpteen times before I say oh joke number 37.

Jan, we were married 8 years before we had kids, so I could have a child that old if we had started sooner. So don't feel old! LOL

Jan, that is so funny about Steve's jokes! That would be a fun project and keepsake to make a journal of all his jokes, numbered of course! I do have 2 sons in mid 40's. My baby girl turns 39 tomorrow. I can remember the day she was born...pacing the hospital floors trying to get her to turn...what a pain in the rear, literally and figuratively! LOL So worth it though!

Melody, thanks for the FB group tip. I'll have to check it out.

Kandie, what a fabulous idea for Ed's cigar box journal!

I need to get into the gallery and comment. I've been lax lately but trying to at least keep up on Alpha ABC cards. Off to browse. Have a great day!

I'm hoping to do better next round. I haven't made a card or done much commenting because of stress, but God continues to be my support through it all.

Good morning! It sounds like it is warmer where most of you are than it is here. We are expecting snow in the next 24 hours - and it keeps staying in the forecast. I think it might actually happen! I could wake up to a winter wonderland tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the tip on the FB group, Melody.

Kandie, do you do your photo editing in PhotoShop? My nephew is so good with that software. I haven't really used it though.

I love what you decided to put in his journal. What a fabulous keepsake idea that is!

Jan, like Kathy, my DH and I waited a long time before we started having kids (longer than Kathy, we chose to wait 13 years). So, most of our contemporaries have older kids who are married with kids of their own.

I also love the idea of a journal of your DH's jokes all numbered in there. Too funny. My girls call bad jokes "dad jokes" but, around here, I am more likely to make dad jokes than their dad!

Gracie, happy birthday to your girlie!

Kathy, I'm sorry you've been dealing with so much stress. Sending you big hugs!

My mom was 16 when she had me. I was 26 when I had first DS. 29 with second. They will be 38 and 35 this year. Just writing that makes me feel so old.

It is currently 56 and sunny out! Thank you Jesus. Its amazing how a little sunshine helps lift the spirits! DS2 is going to try a little fishing after he meets with his landlord to turn in his keys. DH and I still need to get our fishing licenses and I want a different rod and reel. I never liked the spinner reel.
