He is risen! Happy Easter. I'm relaxing a bit. We ate our big meal around 5:30-6:00. We usually have supper around 4:30 because DH would get home from work around then, but in retirement life is different. We got bikes and started riding yesterday. Only around the "block" but we live in the country and our block is probably 1 1/2 miles, some of it dirt road. Yesterday dogs chased us and bit on to DH but didn't break the skin because he was wearing long sleeves. Today I nearly ran off the edge of the road. I'm so hilarious to watch! We laughed and laughed. With my hip, leg and back pain and being so out of shape, I have trouble lifting my leg over the bar to get on! Then we had to get big butt seats because those skinny things are not comfortable. Really neither of us are big but I don't know what they were thinking when they made those skinny seats! I am thinking we are going to need helmets and I tried to find rear view mirrors at Walmart but all their bike accessories were sold out, including bikes! When we finally got home and I put my legs down, they felt like rubber and I almost fell. This is why we are only doing the block for now. Once that becomes easy we're going to go further. DH does not have the trouble I do because he's been going to the woods and walking a lot.

Kathy we had bikes when we came to Spain, went out riding and shopping every day but when we moved in the villa the roads are too busy around us and hilly so we gave them away, I still miss cycling but those seats, I had cycling shorts underneath my shorts, the padded sort.

Good morning! It is cooler here this morning and, perhaps, a little drizzly. Yay! We'll take it.

I hope everyone had a good Easter and weekend.

Vickster! So happy you popped in. You are missed and it is always good to see you.

Bicycling...I miss doing that. I haven't ridden my bike in I'm not sure how long. It is quite hilly where we are. There are some narrow two lane country roads that I see bicyclists on. I would be nervous to ride them because they have quite a lot of vehicle traffic and people around here drive like crazy! Whenever we have wanted to go somewhere to ride, we've had to take two vehicles because we don't have a good way to transport four bikes. Even then, DH has to take the front wheel off a couple of the bikes to make them all fit in the van (with the van seats removed too) so it is a chore to load them up and go somewhere to ride a bike trail or something.

Kathy, I grew up in the country in Oregon but there were a string of houses where our house was. I would only ride my bike so far down the road because big dogs that lived just beyond where I would ride would jump their fence and come after me. They scared me! For a while a friend also lived out there and she had a horse. We would ride beyond my boundary because when the dogs jumped the fence and came after us, she would go after them on her horse and they would jump back in their yard!

Yesterday evening, DD1 came and asked me what her paternal great grandfather's birthday was. I didn't remember. She wanted to know because she was looking things up on Ancestry.com. She found his draft card, she found my dad's draft card, my marriage license, I'm not sure what all she found. So DH got his genealogy stuff out for her to look at. I thought of Ann, Kandie, and Shelly and your talk of genealogy.

Ann, what are you up to today?

Morning! Suppose to be the warmest day of the year today!! Maybe in the 70's. Mother Nature is teasing us in Wisconsin.

Catherine, I rested yesterday due to a sore back from cleaning and baking! Put away a few things that were still out from Easter.

Today it is laundry! Yes always laundry to do but so glad I am able to do it! Have to look at things that way!!

Have a good day everyone!

Again a reminder no Alphabet challenge this week due to the holiday! Work ahead or catch up on the challenges or just relax!!

I am sitting outside the nursing home while Mom visits dad for the first time since he was in quarantine. Just talked to my second cousin who works here and she says she thinks two can visit at the same time. We will have to ask about that but I think it's good mom went in by herself today.

Good morning! Last night, after work, DH and DD2 installed our new water heater. I am loving that she is learning this stuff from her dad, so excellent. It wasn't a simple swap of one water heater for another either. DH had researched and selected a hybrid water heater. It is programmable and should reduce our electric use by about 35%. At one point, I heard our neighbor out there helping them. It is so good to have good neighbors!

Now DD2 has decided she wants to take over the Mustang project. DD1 has lost interest and DD2 asked if she did the work, if it could be her car. DD1 agreed and so now she is gung-ho to get started on that project. Poor DH, he's never going to get a break!

I worked on my U card last night. Both girls like it but I'm not so sure. I might want to do some more to it - except I already attached it to the card base....hmmmm.

It has been quiet on here. Are you all recovering from your weekend?

Kathy, I'm glad you mom is able to visit your dad. I hope he is doing well. I'm also glad you have family that works there.

Ann, I hope your back is doing much better today.

I've got to get to work early today to meet the tree guys. We have some trees that need to be cut down...sadly. And there is also some mistletoe that needs clearing out.

My friend left yesterday for their move to Texas. At least the girls got to see her once before she left. Tears all around. She used to come do grounds work at the church and the girls would go out and "help" her. Really, they kept her company and she called them her little gardening girls. I hope they are very happy in their new home.

Just a head's up, today's tea party is for Vickie Y.

Ann at least laundry isn’t as bad as when I was a girl, first the dolly tub and ponch and mangle, I remember the twin tub washing machine, took ages to get the washing done, the first time I had an automatic washing machine I sat watching it!!

Catherine you have talented DDs, fixing water heaters, cars, as you sat poor DH, they will keep him on his toes.

we have a solar water heater for most of the year, even now the water is boiling hot, in the winter we use a heater with bottled gas, we got rid of the electric one as the water was forever going off when we first moved in and it would wake us up in the night filling up and gurgling, plus it was expensive, now a gas bottle lasts us for about four months so at €18 it’s cheap to run.

It's good for the girls to learn that stuff. I can do a lot of stuff on my own. I once changed the mixing valve on my washing machine. YouTube is a great resource nowadays. Getting ready to head to the dentist for those two fillings. Not looking forward to it but it's got to be done

Good morning! Wow, everyone must be very busy as it is quiet on this thread.

Jan, I'm not sure what a ponch and mangle is but it sounds torturous!

Kathy, I agree that it is fabulous DD2 is learning how to do these things. Yes, Youtube is a great resource but I love that she is working with her dad and learning from him. I wish DD1 was more interested in learning some of these things.

Our neighbors got a beautiful new front door and side light and it was installed yesterday. It is very pretty. Today it sounds like the siding installers are finishing installing their concrete siding. He told me that next week they'll have the painters come and paint the exterior and then he hopes to not touch the outside again (they also got a new roof earlier this year). I told him we are working on inside stuff and also stuff that makes it nicer to live here but isn't pretty, like more insulation in the attic.

Goodness, I made my coffee too hot to drink this morning! And I don't know if I have time for it to cool off before I need to head out. DD1 is working an 8 hour shift today - which she also will do tomorrow and Friday and did yesterday. They have several people on vacation which is why she is getting so many hours this week.

I think I'll go check out the sketch challenge, see what has been posted there.

Good morning, everyone
We are very warm here in WI. Easter Sunday was lovely, could be outside a lot. We are also very dry here. Rain is threatened but doesn't always happen. We need it badly. We have a no burn order and there was a wildfire last week, caused by the sparks of a passing train. I live in the northern part of my village, the fire was toward the south. Kind of scary. I think a few houses were evacuated.
My daffodils are blooming which is incredibly early. I'm not that crazy about it because our weather can change on a dime and I don't want them to be blown to bits. I like the seasons to take their time in happening, not too early, not too late.
I worked an election yesterday....state school superintendent, school board, a judge and bunch of races that had no opposition. It was steady but low turnout. Long day, 630 am-830 pm at least.
Enjoy those grandbabies, Ann.
Catherine, when the weather is this warm, I can't drink hot coffee. I have to have iced. It's like something in my mouth switches off and I can't stand the hot stuff. But if it cools down, I'll be back to hot.
Bravo to women who learn to do all manner of things. Wonderful! I have a friend whose parents give each of their grandkids and great grands a tool for the tool box, every Christmas. Not that thrilling but they'll be happy to have them eventually.
Have a great day, everyone. I'll go back and read some and see what I've missed.

Catherine when we were kids my mum had a big metal tub (dolly tub) that she filled with hot water and a stick with what looking like a colander on the end (ponch) , she would put the clothes in the tub and ponch the clothes then take them out and put them through the mangle, this was two rollers with a handle. When you put the clothes through and turned the handle it would squeeze the excess water out of the clothes, it was hard work and took Mum all day. Funny she always had a day for each cleaning job even when she retired.

we have to get a new Padron today, it’s a document that proves we live here and own a property, trouble is if you buy a car or need other documents you need to have one that’s less than three months old. I need a new medical card so we have to go to the council office with passports, utility bills and Residencia papers! Everything is so complicated here! We are hoping it’s not busy otherwise we will have to make an appointment and go back another day!

Default Hello

Popping in before bed to say hello to all!

I am keeping up with the reading, just not the writing.

Jan- my Grandmother still had that roller type of washing machine in her basement- she used the new one of course..... but it was fun to see it IRL.... The work of the Victorian era for the women! (They lived on a farm, imagine those dirty clothes)!

Jean-kudo's to you for working the election- that is a LONG day!

Catherine- great your daughter works with your DH and learns all of these skills. DIL helped with the roofing- they had 4 vent pipes coming out of the roof, so plywood and shingles needed to be cut to fit. She is very handy- my girls would not have a clue to know what she was doing! They could always check with You Tube....

Kathy- hope your Dad is doing OK, and that Mom is OK seeing him alone today by herself. How hard that must be for her to see him in pain too. Hope two are allowed in!

Linda- Thanks for the catalog link : )

Ann- hope your back is better, your laundry is done and hoping the grands were the older ones : )

Jayne- sorry about your continued headaches. Not fun. Your creativity in the gallery today was fabulous- so either you feel better or (hehehe) they gave you something for it..... Love your SB pages!

We are mostly unpacked- DD1 just left for home with her pup yesterday. It was Ray's birthday, so we had outdoor dining dinner- it was nice out and we enjoyed it very much!
Today, Piano, shower, PT and then drove 30 minutes away to get 2nd Covid shot. I am not sure what to expect, we'll see tomorrow! My older sis called me on the way home and we were on the phone catching up for 2 hours! Her DIL's mother passed away suddenly 67 years old, so she is now helping a 5 yr old with remote learning 3 days a week- up from 1 day a week.....

Tomorrow- just cleaning and cardmaking.... yeah! I am just going to try to sleep in if my body lets me....we'll see.

Waving hello to all!
Shelly

Jan, your mum and mine must have been sisters. I also used to help with the mangle and wash day. I don't know how you remember all of the names of things. I used to just refer to the ponch as the stick LOL. We then went to a twin tub which mum still used up to her death. She would have loved one of the new washing machines now. Monday was wash day at ours and Tuesday ironing day LOL. We even had set meals on each day. Those were the days.

Shelly, I am feeling better thanks. I haven't been able to create until yesterday arvo and finished my Teapot Party card earlier. I made my WTUI sample last week. No meds...I just take painkillers when I need them although the Dr did offer me something stronger but I declined. I don't like taking tablets and as DH said to me the other night...you must be bad to ask for pain killers. I was lol. It's all good and improving thanks.

Happy belated birthday to Ray...another fire sign LOL. Sorry to hear about your DIL's mum..that's the age my mum passed...too young. Was it Covid? Good luck with your 2nd jab.

I nearly made my Y card until I saw Ann's reminder.

Happy day everyone. Hugs

Jayne pleased to hear you are feeling better, I don’t like taking pills either.
my mum cooked the same meal on the same day as well, when I had a twin tub with filter that went round on the top I very often had cigarette ends in it as steve would forget to empty his pockets in his army combat trousers , he was a smoker in those days!

shelly the water must have been like sludge, I bought a carpet cleaner when we had our dog, id always cleaned the kitchen carpet by hand until then, the water was disgusting when I did it with the cleaner, I’m pleased we have tiled floors now, they get dirty but i feel they are more hygienic, same with wooden floors, much easier to keep clean.

Shelly belated birthday greetings to Ray, sounds like you had a lovely day.

we’ve just moved our august ferry booking to the uk to September as the vaccine is still only on 80 year olds, 70’s will start next month apparently, it could be who knows before I get mine, we decided we would go over later that way they could come here in august as our GS would be off school.

we got our Padron done in two minutes, we were second in line and he just updated it and gave us a copy, only checked one passport and charged two euros. Simple for once

Just stopping in to say hello!

I've been dividing my time between my 2.5 year old granddaughter and working towards a healthier me - and online cardmaking has taken a slump. But I"m happy to report I've lost 28 pounds!

Have a great start to your day!

Kelly, does that mean if I don’t make as many cards, I will loose weight? LOL. I am sure it is more to do with taking care of. 2 1/2 year old! LOL. Nice to see you checking in.

S/B warmer here today. This weather is crazy. 80 on Sunday, 40s yesterday. We were going to take blanket off bed, decided to leave it on a little longer!

Shelly, I hope all goes well for your shot. My sister and her hubby got theirs Saturday, and were very tired Sunday. That seems to be the main symptom after the second shot. I hope that is all you have and not any other symptoms.

I am going to a stamping class, first one since last year. I am looking forward to it. I hope she has the catalogs for us. Not that I need anything! LOL

old washers. I remember my grandma having the ringer washer with two tubs, etc. I don’t remember the stick. But grandma also had the mangle to iron sheet etc. a big machine that you sat down to use, feeding things through. She used all these things long after mom had a automatic washer. I remember doing the wash in grandma’s cellar, and the hot steamy water. How did we do that ? I don’t remember. Did we boil the water? How did we get that downstairs from the stove upstairs? Jayne and Jan, you have me trying to remember, now. No one alive to ask, neither. I will have to wait till I get to heaven to ask them. LOL

Good morning, all! Happy crafting!

Losing 28 lbs would make me so happy....will you do it for me, Kelly???!!!! Sigh.
My Mom used a wringer washer when I was a kid. She was always worried when I was around when she was using it because her older brother lost parts of several fingers when he was young because he was curious. I can still picture his hand.
Yes abnormal temps around here. Easter Sunday was almost 80. We are getting some much needed rain although we could use a 'most of the day rain', not just these little on and off again rains. Just looked at the weather map, looks promising for quite a bit of rain.
Jayne, I hope you continue to feel better.
Thanks, Shelly, I consider it a privilege to work at the elections. I never knew how much goes into an election....so much paper!!!!!!!!! The work load is tremendous, even for smaller ones like this year. No more elections the rest of the year. If people understood the process, they would be less likely to say there was fraud. I heard a few people still talking about that or making jokes about it. It's interesting to me how different elections are run from state to state. I read somewhere that the fact that they are so different means that it is less likely that there will be widespread fraud. If we all did it the same, that could be a problem. But based on this past year, some consistency would be good.

Good morning, ladies. How is everyone? Jayne, I’m sure glad to hear the headaches are going away. Such a nasty way to spend the day, fighting a headache.

Jan, my mom used a wash tub with the roller that squeezed the water out. I believe I was around 7, and I remember we had the thing called a utility room off our little kitchen, remember the cement floor in that room, no frills whatsoever, the furnace and just functional workings of the house in that small room? I remember that round metal tub in the middle!

And wow, all those documents to reside in Spain? Why? Does the government keep that tight of rein on everyone, or is it just the people who aren’t born there?

How many of you remember the old phrase, if it’s Thursday it must be meatloaf?

Kelly, CONGRATULATIONS! Twenty-eight pounds! You go, girl!

I’m on week three of low-carb and finally weigh in at 3.7 pounds lighter! Not much yet, I know, but it’s a start! I’m doing my restorative (I.e. slow and easy) yoga every day and am learning meditation. Got to do something to fight against all the toxic news, right? And my step goal each day this week is 6,200 steps. So far I’m making it at 8-10,000, quite a bit of that is dancing around the house, lol.

We are also doing spring cleaning. DH is updating the deck and redoing the flower boxes. I’m cleaning windows and sills, cleaning up the flower areas, accumulating stuff for Goodwill/garage sale. And on the off-chance we decide we want to sell and move to a smaller, less-maintenance home, I’m clearing clutter, cleaning all surfaces, and generally making the house look nice for future buyers. Easy to get lots of steps in with that schedule. No crafting in the cards until everything else is done. DH’s DS1 is not only estate sale person, he’s also a very, very good realtor, and he informed us we can’t keep living here with DH falling, the washer and drying are in the basement and he’s afraid of one of us falling down the stairs. And the yard is huge. Sooooo, I’m trying to get ready for the eventuality of a house popping up on the market that he thinks would work for us “old” folks.

Good morning Alpha gals!

I've returned home from my week with the granddaughters. Whew...I'm worn out...I really feel my age trying to keep up with 3 GDs and their 2 friends. Swimming from dawn to dusk some days. Went to an aquarium, butterfly house and played laser tag. We played Scrabble and Chinese checkers and made Easter cards.

I wasn't on my computer or iPad all week and didn't watch TV either. A nice break from technology. I did read a book when I had some down time. I slept well since I was so exhausted every night!

I just read all the chat since I left last week...don't know that I'll remember it all. LOL I'm glad everyone is doing well and wow, Kelly lost 28 pounds! Congrats.

Ann, you sound as busy as ever too! I'm glad it's warming up back in Wisconsin!

Kandie, preparing for a new home...how exciting! I love house hunting. Change is always good! It's so hard to downsize though!

Jayne, so sorry to hear that you've been suffering with headaches. I hope your doing well now.

Shelly, I'm glad you had a good vacation with your GS and family.

Melody, I'm so glad your DD is settled in her new home now. I hope the landlord gives her deposit back...some landlords are such creeps, you really have to pester them to get it back.

Catherine, so happy DD2 is learning such handy things from DH. My dad only taught the boys stuff when we were growing up, but I learned lots on my own as single mom trying to save money.

Hi to Jan, Jean, Sis Vicki, Sharon, Shirl, Linda, and all Alphas checking in! I've missed my Alpha family! Hugs!

Good morning! It is sunny and lovely here this morning but spring brings allergies for me...sneezing and all that fun. Which is so lovely when I'm shopping. I don't want to worry others in the store, it is just allergies!

Jean, glad you are getting some rain. I definitely understand about the fear of fires. I drink hot coffee and tea all year long - especially if I'm getting coffee from Starbucks.

Jayne, whenever DH has a headache one of the first things he does is check his BP and he usually finds that it is high at that point which is causing his headache.

All this discussion of how physical doing the wash used to be and the chore schedule. I think a couple of you mentioned a set meal schedule too. That sounds like an excellent idea! Then I wouldn't have the "what should I make for dinner?" quandary when I haven't done my meal planning. Last night I served burrito bowl stuffed sweet potatoes. It was the first time I had made it and I really liked it. Baked sweet potato with beans, chili corn, homemade salsa, and guacamole on top.

Jan, I'm glad your appointment was so quick and easy for once!

Shelly, I hope you do well with the shot.

Shelly, I'm very glad DD2 is learning from DH. We always say he knows how to do everything (because it seems like it) but yes, when he doesn't, he has found Youtube to be very helpful.

Happy birthday to your DH!

Wow, Kelly, congratulations! That is a wonderful accomplishment!

Sharon, enjoy your card class. Sounds like fun!

Jean, I am used to men missing some of their digits because I grew up in a sawmill town in Eastern Oregon. Fortunately, my dad (who was head saw filer at a mill) didn't have any missing body parts.

Good for you helping with the election. I doubt that turnout would have been steady here for that kind of election, unfortunately. Our church hosts two different precincts and, when there aren't bigger ticket items to be voted on, I feel badly for the election workers because I think it is very long day for them without much traffic.

Kandie, your DH's DS1 is probably correct though moving is so much work. Hopefully they will help with that too. Something on one level without any stairs is ideal. As for a house that works for you "old" folks, I don't think you are old. That is just a number, right?

And congrats on your weight loss too! I need to get serious about getting fit. I did purchase a new scale but I need to get serious about watching what I eat and making sure I get my water etc.

Hugs back to you, Ann!

And now, time to head to work. Chat with you later.
