Good Morning SCS Friends--Happy Tuesday! I am heading to my scholarship meeting this morning, lunch with my former Superintendent and then dropping a dozen blazers that Rebecca no longer needs at Dress for Success--an organization that you can donate professional clothing for women in need for interviews or jobs.
Oh Maxine, how heartbreaking! Thoughts and prayers for the family, and prayers and hugs for your Grandson too! And, for all of those feeling the loss of the large family!
Heading to see a neurosurgeon tomorrow AM at 8AM.....
I decided it is time- way too much prednisone (steroid) the past 5 months! I am going to have surgery 5/13. The doc told me I have alot of arthritis in my spine, so I will always have back pain, but the surgery will alleviate the sciatica and the tingling. I have one numb big toe- not sure if that feeling will come back.
Tomorrow I will be home and hope to create! I will have alot to do if I cannot stamp for a but..... I am sure I will have sitting restrictions post op.
Barb- that scholarship process sounds daunting!
Seeing hummingbirds again tonight- no Orioles though.......
Maggie, on Sunday a local family of nine, eight whom were travelling home after the school holidays, were in an horrific accident, 7 of them and the driver of the other vehicle were killed. One of my grandson's best friends was amongst the dead.
Thank you all for your love and support. Asher is coping well, but I believe that is an answer to prayer.
The family involved are Maori, and their extended family has gathered around the 9 yr old in hospital, and the 7th child who had not travelled with the family, rather stayed with a local grandparent.
Last night the they gave our community a chance to farewell those killed. The immediate family had only been in town 6 months, but had made an impact, especially in the schools, so once the bodies were released from the autopsies etc, they were taken back to Hastings, which is where they had come from.
Enroute from Hamilton to Hastings, the convoy stopped at one of the local schools for prayers, songs and a haka. The five vehicles carrying the deceased had a police escort all the way, they would not have got back to the 'home marae' until well after midnight, and then there would have been more prayers etc before the family could stop. My heart broke for them, and still does.
Thank you all for your support
On a brighter note, it's been sunny here for the past three days, and with the cooler nights, the autumnal leaves are amazing with their colour this year!
Maxine, I am glad the extended family is rallying around the two surviving children. How heartbreaking for all! The fact that the convoy stopped to allow time to pray and gather in a school is a testimony to the kind of people they are. They will be greatly missed in your community. Continued prayers for all those in this situation, and specifically for your GS.
Shelly, I am sure you've considered all the pros and cons and made a wise decision, though not an easy one. Praying all goes well and you get good results!
Good Morning--I did spend some time in the stamp room yesterday and worked on making some card kits for the two groups I am in. This morning I am meeting a friend for coffee and then at noon, I am heading with Sarah into the SSE to set up her booth. That should only take an hour or so, and maybe some additional stamping time this afternoon. I am not sure I will check in tomorrow as I am riding into the show with Sarah and will need to be there by 8:30 at the latest. Have a great day!

Thinking of you for your surgery Shelly. I do hope that it helps you. I need to make an appointment with my orthopedist and get my low back and bursitis checked out again. I haven't been in a long time.

Waving from a colourful Down Under
So, so sad for those young ones left behind. I'm glad to hear that they have lots of extended family rallying around them.

Nothing much going on here. Just a bunch of school work. I have two papers to write this week. One I've already done the draft, got feedback, and now have to do the final draft.
Caterpillars have needed some time too. So far I've released 18, but still looking for Milkweed. I was able to go to one of my nurseries and got five gallon pots, but I've got three of them in the hutch. I have some that are regrowing, so I hope those will help, but then I found five more caterpillars in my garden and transferred them to the hutch.
One nursery is supposed to be getting plants in today. Not sure what size, but we also have storms coming, so I hope that I'm able to get over to the nursery on my lunch hour before it gets too rainy.

My two guys and I are heading out of here on this rainy morning (POURING rain!) for a weekend out of town. DH will be preaching in the church where the pastor (a good friend of ours) suddenly died a month ago. It will be an opportunity for us to love on this hurting church family. We know many of the people there - even though it is 3 1/2 hours from our home. We'll get home again tomorrow evening.
Have a great weekend - I'll see you again on Monday!

Have a safe journey Jeanette. Sorry about the church's loss of their pastor.

I am very sad this morning. I went out to check on my caterpillars and found about eight of them dead on the floor of the hutch. It seems that the last milkweed I bought was not clean. The nursery has been a good supplier, but this may have been a new grower for them. Usually the nursery will tell you if the plants were contaminated. I have four large plants I got from another nursery on Thursday and they did tell me that they were in quarantine. I transferred all the caterpillars that were still living on to other old plants that I have and hope that they will survive and make good butterflies. Now I have to wash all the ones I got this past week with some soapy wash and let them rest for awhile.

Oh Maggie that must have been heartbreaking to loose so many caterpillars like that - and still have the problem of feeding the remainder.
Safe travels Jeanette - and i hope you are blessed as much as you are a blessing
Kelly is sounds as though young Alice is the centre of your home :-) - Annalise is very much the same!!
Barb you sound so busy - I have loved seeing your cards for your demo's stand!
I hope the surgery brings the desired relief Shelly - 5 months on prednisone would have played havoc with your system!! I have minute doses of steroids in my asthma preventer, and my skin is showing the effects now...
As a result on Thursday I am off to Waikato hospital to the Plastics Dept for day surgery to remove a lesion from my nose and upper R arm... just hoping I don't need a skin graft on my nose...
Waving to you from a dark Down Under :-) (it's Sunday evening here)

Maggie, I am so sorry about your loss... I can imagine how heartbreaking that must have been to discover so many dead caterpillars.
Maxine, I'll be praying for your procedure and recovery! (((HUGS)))
I had a great weekend trip! Now for the start of a new week - one that promises to be a bit hectic in our household. EEK!
Hugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Jeanette.
The remaining cattys seem to be doing okay. Still finding some more in the garden and I saw two butterflies flying around my back yard yesterday so I probably have a bunch more eggs.

Dinner with the kids yesterday was good. It was hard getting it all together to come out at the same time. I made tacos. I also made homemade refried beans and a quinoa salad which turned out great. It was the first time I made the salad and it would have been a meal all by itself. I also made cookies & cream cookies and had them with ice cream for dessert. Yummy! We played some card games after dinner - Wackee 6 and Uno Attack.

Maggie, I'm glad the others are doing okay! Great news!
I've never made quinoa anything - is it hard to make?
No, it's not hard at all. A little like making rice. It's a cold salad with red and yellow diced peppers, corn kernels, black beans, onion, diced avocado, and cilantro. It has a nice lite dressing that goes on it.

Good Morning SCS Friends--Happy Monday! I did have a busy weekend, but it sure was fun. Friday and Saturday I helped Sarah at the Expo and did a bit of shopping myself. I did not see anything new and exciting, but I did get a few new dies and stencils. Rebecca got home late Saturday night and we spent yesterday in the greenhouse, transplanting trays of flowers. We only have one tray of snapdragons left downstairs under the grow lights and we will put those in the greenhouse today as they will not be transplanted in pots, but put directing in the ground the end of this month. We had great weather Saturday and Sunday--we actually saw the sun. However, that is not the case this week as it is to be rainy all week long! I will be involved in the final interviews for the humane society positions and that starts this afternoon and a couple of afternoons this week. We plan to make the final decision a week from today and make a recommendation to the full board on the 15th. I do plan to spend some time in the stamp room today and get a swap down to be postal! Have a great start to the new week!
Good Morning--Happy Hump Day. I am headed to the humane society this morning for three final interviews and then dinner out with some friends to celebrate a birthday. I was able to spend time in the stamp room and make a couple of cards! We too are to get rain later today and it is to last into the weekend! Grow-Grass-Grow!
Also--I posted a new swap--the cards that are hard to make when needed. Please consider joining my Get Well, Sympathy and/or Thinking of You swap. It is due August 2nd. Hope to see you there!
We had some rain yesterday too. Lucky for me the really heavy stuff wasn't in my neighborhood. Some to the North of us got 10" and had children stranded at school overnight. Cars were abandoned on streets that were flooded. Problem is we are to get more the rest of this week.
I was able to get over to my nursery and get some more milkweed plants before the rain hit. So far the ones i was able to save look like they are doing good.

Hello all!
I wanted to stop in and say hello to all!
I am off Ibuprofen/Aleve and had to stop supplements, and no wine before surgery..... which is next Monday. The Turmeric works alot better than I knew, because I was not taking daytime muscle relaxants and no pain meds....maybe an occasional Ibuprofen. Well, I am resorting to muscle relaxants now, which usually do not make me sleepy, but the past couple of days they are putting me to sleep.
I had to get a new MRI yesterday to make sure the surgery is just one level of the spine, tomorrow afternoon, I'll be going for a pre-op physical.
Yesterday, I decided to color my hair- anesthesia messes with absorption of hair color or something like that..... so want to color before surgery. I have a bottle (1) that I add color to (2) and shake it. Apply to roots, then all over then rinse. When I rinsed and added conditioner, it was not conditioner, but the color- I must have added the conditioner to bottle 1...... So, will re-do tomorrow. Oh dear me..... LOL
Good Morning Inky Friends. I am heading to the shelter for more interviews today. One of the candidates was awesome yesterday and the other two were not-so-good..............
Oh Shelly, how frustrating to have messed up and have to redo your hair!! All the best for the surgery - you will be in my prayers
Barb that sounds as though you are impressed by one applicant and not so the others - that makes the process a bit easier.
Nice to see you most days Jeanette - you are a blessing
Kelly - cherish you time with Alice - the grandmother relationship is so special.
My surgery went well yesterday - the preparation and anaesthesia took longer than the actual surgery - I can wear my glasses comfortably, which is good, but I have to keep my head up for the next couple of days. My arm was so numb last night I thought it was super good - reached for something this morning and instantly knew that it would swear loudly at me if I did that again!! So today and tomorrow are going to be very quiet, as I won't be able drive in comfort.... that really clips my wings . Thankfully all the stitches are dissolving ones, so I won't have to worry about getting them removed! Whew.
