Beware....

Stupid question coming up.....

Are you ready?....

Here it goes...

How do you attach your pen holder loop to the chipboard for your post it note holders? I can't figure out how to put the little loop of ribbon or paper on so it doesn't look bad. Do you put it between the DSP and the coaster? If not, how do you cover up the end of the loop?

Love your pictures. Your set up was fabulous. Sorry your space was smaller than expected. You did a great job.

Thanks Purplepatch. I REALLY love this idea and you're right - chocolate cake in a few minutes is dangerous. I don't think I'd share tho...LOL.

The Most Dangerous Cake recipe!
5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
a small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high).
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?
Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night! ;)
Thanks Purplepatch. I REALLY love this idea and you're right - chocolate cake in a few minutes is dangerous. I don't think I'd share tho...LOL.

I glued my ribbon to the chipboard before putting the paper on. Here's a photo of one of mine...

I think my cost came out to about 29 cents for each piece of candy. It would have been 25 cents, but there were not as many in the bag as on the label....grrrrr!

I'm with you on Ghiradelli chocolates. They are not my personal favorite plus they are pricey. But a lot of people really like them. Just give me a Hershey bar any day.

To tell you the truth, the only reason I made these in the first place is that I was so lucky to find a bunch of packages on sale at Michaels, of all places.

They were lurking on a bottom shelf in amongst clearance Halloween stuff, and they were not even Halloween. The package had the pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness, but the candy inside was regulation wrapped.

The packs have 9 or 10 squares and they were on sale for $1.59 each, so I grabbed them up.

Good luck with yours. Candy items do seem to sell well at the fairs. I've even had other vendors buy them from me.

Thanks for the compliment. They were easy to do and I made about 40 of them in one evening. Here is the tutorial:

I want to join Carole in wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving holiday!

Also, thanks to all of you for sharing your time and talent on this thread. It has been so much fun to come here every day and see what new treasures have been posted.

After cooking huge dinners every Thanksgiving for about 40 years, I am so willing to turn over the reins to our youngest daughter who lives here. We will spend the afternoon at her house. Her hubby will be making the turkey and fixings and all grandma is bringing is deviled eggs and sweet potatoes!

She is a lovely and quite amazing young woman with 6, yes SIX beautiful children, ages 9, 8, 6-1/2, 5, 3 and 2!

You understand with that setup, this will not be Martha Stewart fine dining, lol. We will likely be using clean cloth diapers instead of linen napkins. And someone is likely to stick their finger in the pumpkin pie, but we will have a wonderful time!

I have one on Sunday....it is part of a Christmas in the Village type thing. It is only a 3 hour show, so I am hoping for the best!! There should be lots of people out and about the village...All the businesses are open and I will be in the firehouse....it is from 5PM-8PM

I will let everyone know how it goes Sunday night!! Wish me luck!!

Thumbs up report on my holiday bazaar

Hey All,
Time to report on my one craft bazaar --
I brought in about $245 -- half of what I brought in last year -- but the show was much slower for all there, and I still had a lot of fun. AND -- I didn't "kill myself" getting ready: much of what I put out was "leftover from last year" -- and folks didn't mind!

I did make a whole fresh batch of domino pins and clothespin magnets, and sold a lot of those (about 30 or so) -- one woman came rushing over and made my day when she said, "Last year I bought one of these -- and I don't know how I have made it all year on only one!" Then she bought 3 more :^)

I sold 3 giant clothespins that I covered and decorated, two small decorated clipboards, with magnets to attach them to the fridge (folks absolutely LOVE these and they do very well at $

My chocolate boxes were not the usual hit this year, but I can use them as gifts for friends and kids classes, so not all is lost (and I could also put Valentine labels on them... I think they are good for that long).

I did bind up a few coaster albums and left them blank, for the do-it-yourself crowd -- did not sell any, but as I had a sample of the small album you could make with it, folks were really excited and many folks took my card to potentially do a class in making them.

I sold quite a few retired stamp sets at a huge discount to people (mostly old SAB sets) and that helped.

My decorated bind-it-all notebooks continued to be a hit. I cut all the pages, covers, and made them beautiful. I had all of them done from last year, so it was just easy to put them out. I am finding the 4x6 size might even be bigger than folks want, but I will continue making more throughout the year, I think.

Lastly,
I brought home a few things: folks love to trade -- the woman next to me was "downsizing" and selling a few things that she made, along with a piece of furniture made by her uncle... a small wardrobe for doll clothes. I knew exactly where it would go in my home, and I traded some stamp sets and cash for it (she wanted $65 for it, and I wanted to help her out). Another woman had a gorgeous necklace at wholesale cost (perodot stones, simply lovely...) and all the money she made was going to Children's Hospital... and a friend gave me a lovely bracelet that I admired off of his table...

But unfortunately, I also brought home the flu, and have been sick for days!

Finally, my Mom 2 Mom group ordered 15 clothespin magnets which I am giving them for $2 each (rather than $3, the normal price) so I am feeling ok with that!

Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving! Everyone just left my house and it was a very nice Thanksgiving day.

I have another question - why do so many of you sell your "retired" stamping sets? I mean, just because they are retired doesn't mean you can't use them anymore, right? Do you just not want to use those designs any more? I guess I just can't wrap my mind around that. I can't imagine selling my stamps, even if I had retired ones - because there are so many uses you could want them for in the future. I just don't understand. Thanks!

Can't speak for everyone here, but I am a SU! demonstrator and once a set retires I can no longer show it at customer events -- I mean I could, but why would I bring out a stamp that the guests can't order, KWIM? The money I make from selling those old stamps that I'm not really using anymore is often what I use to purchase more current product when a new catalog comes out. I actually made enough selling off my retired stamps when I signed up as a demo to basically pay for my kit! Selling sets I don't really use also helps clear space in my crafting closet.

Sometimes there will be an updated version of an older set, like Flower Fancy/Heartfelt Thanks, or Fun and Fast Notes/Greetings Galore or Nice and Easy Notes. I do tend to keep a lot of the retired sentiment sets, though, because they're still great for personal use or for craft fair projects.

Ahh.. that makes complete sense! Thanks for the explanation! I had never thought about it before from that angle. I was just seeing all these pics of the beautiful things you all make and then saying you were selling your stamps and I didn't understand why! I'm very new to all this papercrafting and stamping stuff so please forgive me if my stupid questions continue for a while

Cute pinwheels, Anita!

I know you've been working very hard on multiple items (which are lovely, by the way. I've looked at most of them.)

I wish you the best of luck on your first show! Be sure to let us know how it goes.

Default craft fair

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Just had my first craft fair of the year. There were 11 vendors and very few shoppers. I made a whopping $46! Very disappointing. I have two more before Christmas. Hopefully, I'll do better. My dollar items did not sell well. I will be making dollar grab bags for the kiddos to buy. Cute pinwheels by the way. Thanks, Maria

for very few shoppers it sounds like you didn't do so bad. Next one WILL be better (cuz Anita said so and we all know I am never wrong!) lol Everyone is burned out from thanksgiving and black friday.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Happy everything!

This is the link to a pic in my gallery of the orna-mints I made today for next Saturdays show. They are cased from this site but I cannot remember her name to give her credit. I have never sold these before and was thinking .50 ea. Is that what they usually sell for? 2009 craft show orna-mints by dhb1281 at Splitcoaststampers

I had a craft show today. Even though I made $100, I am still disappointed. It was very slow because it was pouring rain today. I am sure it kept alot of people away.
They put me at a table right next to a lady that sold many of the smae items as me (hot chocoalte cones, candy kebobs, chocolate bark, glass bead sets). And the lady had her prices lower than mine, so i had to lower mine. I don't know how she is making much profit with her prices so low.

I am also feeling a bit grumpy about the cheap people who go to craft shows expecting to pay the bare minimum for things people spent their time and energy on. grrrr!

I can't sell those acrylic post-it note holders to save my life! I am tired of carrying them around. Maybe I need to pick up some mini pens to put with them to spruce them up a bit. I can't even sell them for $3... and they are cute!

My biggest sellers were glass bead magnets and bookmarks.

Diane,
Sorry your show was a dissapointment. I always look around me at set up time and ask to move if the person within a few booths of me is selling the same things. That was poor planning on the show coordinators part. Sorry it hurt your sales. There are times I don't think the coordinator has ever made crafts and they don't think about the problems with setting up like that.

Hey, ladies. Wanted to give a quick report. Yesterday I had a 4 hour show, about 30 minutes from home. This is the closest and shortest show I've done. It was kinda nice. I didn't have very high expectations as it was the 1st show at this church, and only about 20 crafters, but it went better than I expected. It was only a 10% table fee, which totally rocked! I am getting sick of paying up to $50 for a table and then not making more than $150 before the table fee. I also think this gives the organizer more motivation to make the sale work for you in terms of quality and advertisement.

There wasn't a ton of traffic, I would say about 200 people came through, but I sold $120. For a 4 hour show, I think that's pretty good.

I did not sell any glass block lights or coasters. What I sold a ton of that didn't sell last time is the wrapped microwave popcorn. I also got an order for 60 more of those. (ok, the customer is my mom, and I am making them for the cost of a new print cartridge and the popcorn, but it still counts, right?)
I sold 10 of the gift card purses to a lady for her nieces and nephews as well as a few more here and there. Poops etc. sold pretty well, as did my dog treats. (pics to follow!)

Now, my biggest surprise is that I have yet to sell a magic piggy wand. People look at them and comment how clever, but they don't buy. Because of the success some of you have had with them, I made 70 of them, so I am really disappointed. Later I will post a pic and maybe you can give me ideas on how to dress them up and move them out!

My mom and sis spent the day with me, and sis and I worked on some projects, so in some ways it was like going to a free crop! All in all a great day and it ended with a visit to olive garden for the soup, salad and bread sticks, so I am a happy girl!
