The create and the original cricut will cut letters up to 5.5". The expression will cut them up to 11.5". So I think all will cut letters big enough for a 12 x 12 page unless you're doing something like a single big letter. Then you might want the expression.
If you wanted a single big letter you couls always flip it the lenth of the machine in DS alsong as it's not too wide like an "M"..just a thought.
Need some help. I am a fairly new scrapbooker. 2 yrs. I want to get a circut but I have VERY limited space. I have more room in my cubicle at work. I have NO storage space either. I don't know which circut to buy. I do have a small area that I could clear off for it..again a SMALL space. I also would like to get a Big Shot or Cuttlebug, is one better than the other? Maybe I should just get rid of my husband or one of my kids so I can I have a whole room for my stuff....lol. My work space is about 4 feet long and 2 feet wide.
Hi Amy, listen to Deb she knowes her stuff! I've had the baby bug for 2 years and was very happy with it, I got the expression for Christmas and I'm thrilled with it. The cool paer is they take up the same amout of space in my tiny share office: I have a sturdy box (14"x2', it used to hold record albums and I covered it with leftover carpeting) I put it next to my desk so the cricut is parrell to it. When I want to cut I pull it out so the mat will have room to moove. I store all of my papraphanalia in the box itself. I put felt bumbers on the bottom of the box so I can slaid it out easily without scratching the floor. The carpet on the box keeps the bug from sliping. It is wonderful! Get whay tou will use! Ican do almost everything on the baby that I've done on the big E, I just make more at once! I also have SCAL and make vinal signs so that is my exception. The expression is a dream for that! I have a Big shot and I use that alot too, I have info on all you can do on my blog, just search "big shot" it takes all dies (excepy commercail accucut) and it hold up great!
Good luck!
Lindsay
Good morning all! I am new to cricut-dom and I am having a problem with cutting. I got my Cricut about a month ago, used it a bit, it cut great and then got busy with the holidays. Back at it and I want to cut "with Sympathy" using the Jasmine cart. It is shredding my SU card stock. I tried blade at 6 and 5 and wheels are both at max. what should Ido? TIA x 10!
Badger53186......You have your settings too high. Put your blade at 5. Turn the pressure and speed down. The Stampin' Up cardstock is rather thin so you don't need so much pressure and speed.
Be sure the blade housing is in properly and securely.
Also, be sure you are not trying to cut small letters. Jasmine (sp?) is a rather narrow font and can not be cut in very small letters or it may chew up the letters on you. I find cutting some of the fonts smaller than 1 inch to be very iffy depending on the letter. Some I can do at 3/4 inch. Depends on the font and even the letters.
You don't say whether you are using the original Cricut or the Expression. But in either case turn both the pressure and speed down to what would be a medium setting. How that is measured on each machine is different.
I have the Expression and typically keep the pressure and speed to either 3 or 4 and the blade depth at 5.
If you are using the plain printed Stampin' Up paper you can go even lower with the pressure.
Badger--PJW is exactly right. That phrase in Jasmine is difficult to cut--but it can be done. Play with the settings on some scraps and find what works with YOUR machine. If all else fails--try a new blade, just to eliminate the possibility that you have a bad one.
Good luck! That was the first thing I cut with my Cricut Expressions last year, and with a little playing, I got it to come out just fine (I was using DCWV textured CS).

I agree that the speed was too high - I do not agree about the pressure. I always use the max pressure and blade depth for SU paper. Other paper, I can take it down some, but not SU.
When I have something like that happen, I slow it down. More intricate cuts take a slower speed.
I just got my Cricut Exp last night!!!! I played with it for afew things, but can't wait to get home and play tonight because I have the entire night free!!!!!
Stampin Up cardstock is thin?? It's the thickest cardstock I have other than the PTI white and the new Gina K white that I just got. SU, to me, is thick. I use max pressure and blade but agree with others that the speed is too high.
DebZa and pjw....thanks so much for your suggestions. I lowered the speed, left the pressure alone, set blade height at 5 and used a new mat. I also increased the size to 2.5 inches. Looks MUCH better! not perfect, but greatly improved. A little more dinking (that is a technical term; feel free to throw it into a conversation if you like!) and I will have it. now I have to get those delicate little letters off the mat....thanks!thanks!thanks!
NO, you aren't clueless, it's good to ask questions. I have made the Doodlecharms snowman (he is so cute). I made a black "blackout" piece to put under my my snowman so it would look like he had eyes and buttons. I made the orange nose separately. I dug out my SYI booklet and it looks like you can cut out little pieces to go onto the snowman, all except the mouth which you may have to do a "blackout" on. HTH and makes sense.
Thank you so much. I did the same thing with the black paper underneath and it looks great! I did cut out the other pieces, but like you said there was nothing for the mouth so I did the blackout.

When I made it (card is on my blog here: http://www.stamps-and-stitches.com/2...christmas.html) I did the one with the arms in dk brown and then the one without arms (to layer on top) in white. It also cut noses along with the white bodies so I just colored them in with markers and glued them onto the face. I put some colored paper behind the button holes and black paper behind the eye holes.
I love how you did the rick rack for the scarf!! Thank you for your help!

I just bought the deep cut blade and housing and am not having any luck with it at all. The lady in the store sold me on it as you can use it with a new product to cut your own stamps. Well that was it for me I had to have it, but now I am afraid to use the stamp material.
I have tried three different thickness of chipboard, including the ones that come with the paper packs and the cuts are awful.
Has anyone else tried this? Any suggestions would be fantastic as I don't want to have wasted Christmas money on this.:(
I'm still figuring our my Cricut and have read their discussion boards a few times. There are LOTS of people who are very disappointed with the deepcut blade & housing.
Since I don't trust myself to remember all the tips I read (could be all the wine), I C&P posts into a Notepad file for future reference. Here are my notes about the deepcut blade:

CRICUT DEEP BLADE & HOUSING
I read through the tips and tricks and took a ton of deep breaths and tried again....BUT...i set my blue housing to 3 and multi cut 4 (which you can do if you have DS). To my EXCITEMENT....i cut a nice clean circle out of thick board.
-OR- If you are wanting to cut some medium light weight chipboard, do a search for the seller USCutter on Ebay, and get their 60 degree Roland blades. They work in the green housing and cut deeper than the regular blades do.
(This last one is someone else's post. I haven't tried the deepcut blade yet.)

This is great! Thank you so much for sharing this information!
My 10 year old DD had a Luau for her birthday party last week. I had been "nagging" her all week to get some thank you cards made!
I was doing laundry last night when she came down to show me what she had done! WOW! She used Doodlecharms for the palm tree and Walk In My Garden for the "thanks"....
Here is her card:
Here is her present.....remind me to kick my husband's you-know-what!!
Pray for me.....

Good morning everyone! This is a sample of some gift tags I made this year for Christmas. I used the Paper Dolls cart to cut out the tree and Joys of the Season for the ornament.
Ok off to exchange the Cricut for the CE. I want to make sure I am correct in this...........The CE will cut smaller font for cards than the O?
I just want to make sure it's such a big purchase. I don't really need the larger font but really could use the small. We are expecting 8 inches of snow in five hours so I need to decide fast. I want to get it done today!
Thanks for all that great info, I will print it off today and give the cipboard another try tonight.
I did try cutting the stamping material and it works like a hot darn. Of course by the time I finally did that I ran out of time to actually stamp with it. I'm doing that first thing as soon as I get home
If it works well I will post it, I did use the settings on the package for the stamp material and they were dead on!

Thanks for posting this! I ordered the stamp material from Custom Crops and am waiting for it to be sent. I'm so happy it worked out because the material is not cheap. I can't wait till you stamp with it. Please post what you think of the image you get (also what ink you use) Thanks.

yes on it's own but if you buy the software you can get the O to cut small too.
O-Bug - Original Bug, now called the Cricut Personal Electronic Cutter. I have had this one for a year. Cuts up to 5.5 inches, down to 1". No extra features like portrait, quantity, or other features like the E or the CE. When used with the software you can really increase what this machine can do. To get smaller than 1 inch cuts, you just arrange the sizes. Just remember to save the file if you want to repeat the size. I make a calendar for my classroom, I saved the numbers at 3/4 inch in a cut file, so I wouldn't have to redesign them every month.
CE - Cricut Create. I don't have, my friend just purchased, and I haven't seen one in action. This is the same size and cutting size as the O-Bug. The bonus is that it also has some of the cutting features of the Expression. Eight-way directional blade, Portrait mode (to cut taller images), Fit to Page mode (to cut the largest cut possible), Auto Fill mode (to mass produce cuts), Center Point function, and Flip function.
E - Cricut Expression. After a year, I upgraded to this from the O-Bug. Why? The size of the cuts. Software is great, this is more than the software can offer, because of the size of the machine. Also, since I have the O-Bug, without all those features, the bigger machine made more sense than the same amount of money for the same size.
If I had it to do all over again, I'd have gotten the E, the first time out.
Space, use and finances are always part of this decision. Good Luck.
