I use Heat-n-Bond a lot. It's found in craft (quilt/sewing) department at Wal-mart for about $5/roll. I use the heavy-duty, not lite. It's also at Michael's but it's a lot more expensive.

I'm making some as well. I made one as a dry-run and used E6000 glue (found Wal-mart) and sanded the back of the magnet before I applied it. So far (1 week), the magnet has held. I hope this helps!
