Challenge Title: Chocolate Chilling

Fabulous Chocolate Challenge!

Chocolate speaks the language of love no more clearly than on Valentines Day! For a sweet treat for your sweetheart or just as a sweet gesture for a friend, stamp a chocolate bar cover or cocoa holder to make that chocolate delight sweeter yet.

The chocolate bar holder paper size will depend on the size chocolate bar you use. For my sample, I had a Ghirardelli 3-oz bar that measured 6.25 by 3 and was a quarter inch deep. Scoring the paper to wrap around the length of the bar helps create a crisp seam. I used background paper for the main part of the wrapper and then decorated it accordingly using red tinsel and gold embossing powders and Bazill paper.

I have to credit Sereikastamper for the instructions for the cocoa pouch. These were lifted directly from one of her posts. I also CASED her layout. See? If it werent for Sereikastamper, this challenge would not exist! Give her some love in her gallery. ?
As you can see from the instructions, this can also be used for a pouch of apple cider and one stamper suggested you could use it to hold seeds if it is close to springtime where you live. But tonight, were focusing on CHOCOLATE! Have fun!

Cocoa Holder/Apple Cider Holder

Half sheet of 12 x 12 Cardstock, so a 12 x 6-inch strip
Score at 2.5 and 7.5 inches
Fold and tear top half for just a touch of flair
Add two brads very near the edge of the inside flap to create the pocket

You have 45 minutes to complete this challenge.

When uploading, be sure to put the challenge code FEB07VSNB in the keyword section. If you use additional keywords, you must separate them with a comma. The keywords ensure that I am able to find the card for judging!

Challenge Description:

Did you know that February 19th, 2007 is Spunky Old Broads Day!? With that in mind my challenge is make a card for a Spunky old broad in your life! You may base your card on the poem by Jenny Joseph, which is the anthem for the Red Hat Society. Check out this link for a couple of different versions of the poem.
http://www.luvzbluez.com/purple.html
You must use purple in your card. Purple C/S, ink, flowers, images, beads, glitter, purple, purple, purple.
It does not have to be monochromatic but, more ways and items that you use in purple the better.
Get bonus points if you use a spunky old broad stamp!
Think Hallmarks Maxine and come up with a Spunky saying to go on your card.

Challenge Title: Inspirational Challenge

Challenge Description:
Don't you just love it when you look at your shirt and realize that
it would make a great card? That is how the inspiration challenge
started for me! I had seen others do it, but never seemed to find it
for myself until that day. Now, I see inspiration everwhere.

One of my favorite things about this type of challenge is that
anything goes! There are so many different ways to interpret a
picture that sometimes you can get multiple cards from one piece.

Take a look at the attached thumbnail - this is your inspiration
piece. You do not need to recreate the piece, but you may; or feel
free to change the colors, adjust the layout, or pick a different
theme -- this is all up to your own interpretation!

So let your creative juices run wild, be *inspired*, and go get stamping!

Challenge Description:
DIAMONDS & PEARLS
Diamonds are a girls best friend - and pearls must be a close second. I just love sparkle on my cards (and my fingers and ears) - so glitter is one of my favorite things to put on a card. What better to go with the glitter than a little pearl? My friend, Arin (Arinstamps), introduced me to the Painted Pearl technique and since then I use Pearl Ex on almost everything I make!
The Challenge:
Use Diamond Dust (or any clear, iridescent glitter) and Pearl Ex powders to your card. SCS has some great Pearl Ex techniques to help you out, or make up your own. Just make sure your card has both glitter and Pearl Ex on it!

FEB07VSNG: 1:00 p.m. EST- Kids Challenge- Heart Shaped Mice

Challenge Description:

Who doesn’t include their pets among their favorite things? And what kid doesn’t ask for a rodent at some point in their childhood? And what parent doesn’t appreciate a mouse…made out of paper that is. My challenge is to make yourself a mouse, made out of paper hearts.

1. Fold an 8-1/2" x 11" (or smaller) piece of cardstock in half.
2. Fold a 4 x 5 (or smaller) piece of cardstock in half.
3. Draw and cut two hearts from the sheets of paper (one will be smaller than the other).
4. Keeping the hearts folded, glue them together so that the large heart becomes the body and the smaller heart becomes the head.
5. Lay yarn (or any other fibers) down the fold and glue down, leaving the yarn hanging out at the end of the body. This yarn becomes the tail. If you do not have yarn or fibers, cut a very thin strip of paper, this will do the trick.
6. Draw eyes and whiskers on the smaller heart/head of the mouse. You can decorate your mouse with stamps and/or markers. Add glitter or any other embellishments to help decorate your mouse.
7. All done. Have fun playing with your new mouse. You can even write a message on the inside and share your pet with someone you love.

Challenge Description:
ATC Valentines
1. ATCs are trading cards. They are 2.5 x 3.5. Your finished card will be this size. They are just the right dimensions for kids' valentines! 2. Since they are valentine's, it should have either the word valentine on it OR a heart somewhere on it OR both! 3. Like kids' valentines, we are going to make it so that it opens.
There are 3 ways to accomplish it. A. Use can use the new pocket cards from the winter mini. They are the same size as a trading card! B. Use your slit punch to close it. Cut your cardstock 7 x 2.5. Score and fold in the middle. Once you have the slit where you like it, you can shorten one side so that it closes with a nice fit. C. Make a matchbook valentine. Cut the cardstock 7 x 2.5. First fold up the bottom about 1/2. Staple. From this fold, score at 3.5 inches. If needed, trim the folded flap part so that it fits closed by the staple.
Children may need help with cutting, punching, stapling, and attaching ribbon. That's fine. Let your child have as much independence as possible, even with the choosing of stamps, colors, and placement. Their creativity is so much fun to experience!

We’ve all been on both sides and know what it is like to give and receive the little things in life.

So, for this challenge you will need to make a card which incorporates the use of a charm, or charms, on your card. Be it the centre of a flower, dangling from a corner of your main image or tied up with ribbons; you must have a charm located somewhere on your card.

FEB07VSNL 5pm Brown Paper Packages- Eliotstamps

Challenge Time: Saturday 5:00 p.m.
Challenge Title: Brown Paper Packages
FEB07VSNL 5:00 p.m. EST - Brown Paper Packages
Challenge Description:
One of my favorite things is to make pretty packaging for my gifts, homemade or otherwise. For this challenge, you’re going to take a simple brown paper bag and turn it into a pretty package called a genie bag, using a technique developed by Genie1314 here on SCS. These bags are great for holding holiday treats or giving small gifts, and you can personalize them for any occasion.
You can use most any size brown or white paper bag or similar. Here are the basic directions: Cut about 4 inches off the top of your paper bag. Cut cardstock to cover front and back, leaving about 1 inch to extend over the top of the bag. This is where the handles will go, if you make handles. You can also cut the sides of your cardstock or inch wider than your bag. "A single sheet of 8.5 x11 paper should cover the front and back of a standard size lunch bag."
This makes it a little easier to attach the cardstock to the bag. Decorate your cardstock as desired and attach to the bag. On my samples, I decorated the fronts of the bags, but left the backs just plain cardstock. I attached the decorated side of the card stock to the front of the bag while it was flat, then opened the bag to attach cardstock to the other side. I used sticky strip, but other adhesives will work, too, especially if your decorated cardstock is not too heavy. Use a word window or other punch to create a handle at the top.
Shopping list:
Brown or white paper lunch bag or similar
Word window punch and sticky strip are helpful, but not required.

My challenge would be to make a tote bag that was featured on the cover of Paper Crafts magazine in March of 2006. I have made some of these and they are easy to make. You can fill them with goodies for a gift, a gift card and a hand made card, or do like I did and fill the tote with a set of handmade cards.

Let's see those colours FLY and POP! All you FANatics show us your team spirit and make a POPPING FRESH card showing your pride in your hometown favourite using their team colours. Your favourite can be a professional sports team, high school or college team, sorority or fraternity colours, or even a country flag for your favourite Olympic team. It doesn't have to have the team emblem on it, just using the colours is OK, as long as the card has something popping up on it also. These will be some BRIGHT COLORFUL POPPING cards! You can use pop-dots, dimensionals or do a whole pop up card. Please tell us your team and the colours you are using.

Here are directions to make a free standing pop up card:
You will need:
11" X 4 1/2" piece of card stock...piece A (main body of card)
5 1/4" X 2 1/2" piece of card stock...piece B (message card)
2 1/2" X 1 1/2" piece of card stock...piece C (front greeting card)
Decorate the "A" piece of card stock.
Turn "A" over and with a pencil, lightly mark, score and fold to make lines 1", 2 3/4",3 3/4", 5 1/2",7 1/4", 8 1/4", 10".
On the centre line (5 1/2" line) mark in 3/4" on both sides.
With a razor knife cut a line 2 3/4" long between the two 3/4" marks.
Take card stock piece "B" and stamp the message you want for your card, on one side.

On piece "A" mark a bottom centre line from the 1" score line down on both ends.
On piece "B" mark the bottom centre line for the bottom only.
Thread the message area of "B" through the centre slot of "A".
Align and glue the two centres marks of "A" and "B" together (like a sandwich with B being the centre).
Stamp a greeting onto the front of card stock "C" and glue to the front of the card.
When you are finished...your card will slide up and down through the slot. Flat for mailing and Free standing once it is opened.

Challenge Title: Cute as a Button

Challenge Description:

One of my favorite things for embellishing cards are buttons. However, something I like even more is finding a way to mimic embellishments using the masses of cheaper supplies I already have.

My challenge is Chipboard Buttons. Any shape works well for a button. Punch smaller chipboard shapes with a handheld punch. Use a crop-a-dile or an anywhere punch for larger shapes. You may also have some chipboard shapes already in button form in your stash!

I want to see what really cool things you can do with these buttons. Decorate them with paper, paint them, emboss them, anything! You can use the chipboard button as the feature of your card or simply as an embellishment, anything goes!

Challenge Title: MY own Encaustic World!

Challenge Description:

My Own Little Encaustic World......

My favorite thing to do in stamping is to learn a new technique!! I love having lots of different ways to play with my babies....ummm, stamps! LOL

In my quest to learn as many techniques as humanly possible (Yes, I am aware that I have issues....they are many and varied...LOL) I stumbled across Encaustic Art! It's super-pretty and really easy to do--and it makes you look majorly talented to boot!!! (Always a plus in my books!) And yes, you CAN do this in 45 minutes or less!

To do my easy version of Encaustic Art (Cause I'm too cheap to buy the proper tools....then I couldn't buy as much rubbah!!!!) you will need the following:
Glossy cardstock (not sure if photo paper will work--feel free to try if you want to!)
CRAYOLA crayons (seriously, knock-offs don't work with this)
Iron
Scrap paper (TONS!)
Tin foil (If it's your good/only iron. I have a craft iron so I don't bother with tinfoil.)
Staz On ink
Landcape/bird/butterfly stamps
Here's a tutorial I wrote for this technique on my blog. It walks you through step-by-step how to do this fun technique!!! I hope that lots of you are brave enough to try this--cause it's seriously fun and easy!!!!!

Challenge Title: A Little Bit of Magic

Challenge Description:

A little bit of Magic
My favourite thing to do on a rainy day or on a sunny day for that matter is to either read one of my favourite books or watch one of my favourite movies. What are my favourite books and movies you ask? Why Harry Potter of course! So in honour of my favourite teenage wizard, your challenge is to make a magical card! Here are a few ideas, make a card using magical and mystical images, i.e. wizards, owls, fairys, castles, or if you dont have any of those stamps make a card using a magical technique such as the push/pull magic card, Instructions found here: http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/.../magiccard.php, or the magic snowflake technique, Instructions found here http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...csnowflake.php, the list can go on and on. Or if you cant make any of those, bring magic to your card by using glitter. Have fun with it and make sure when you upload you use the proper key word so I can find your card when it comes time to judge. Also make sure you tell me what type of magic your card shows, in other words, what tech. you used etc.
Here are my samples. For the first one I used an owl from the Magical & Mystical set and I also added some glitter. You can see how the glitter makes it look like the owl is leaving a trail of magic everywhere he goes. In my other sample I used the magic snowflake technique to create my magical flowers.
