I saw signs of "life" just a few minutes after using the alcohol in the markers, but I decided to let them sit overnight. I HIGHLY recommend that you open each marker you revived VERY carefully and slowly over a couple of paper towels. Those caps are hard to get off, and if you put too much alcohol in, it splatters everywhere when you open it. Go through each "revived" pen and check for dripping BEFORE you use on a project. I'm glad I did, or I would have been very unhappy.
I contacted Crafter's Companion last week regarding my original-style Spectrum Noir markers which have totally dried up. I have not heard back from them.
However, I used isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) in mine yesterday, and it has revived them. I am certain that 90% solution would be better, butI only had 70% solution on-hand, and it seemed to work just fine. Of course, the key is probably that my markers have had very little use, so the nibs still have lots of ink in them--they are just dried out. The alcohol is the carrier that makes the ink flow.
Are you sure you put enough alcohol in? I used 2-3 ml (I used a syringe without a needle, left over from administering oral meds to my cat).
I put too much alcohol in a couple of times and the alcohol drips out the end when I take the cap off. I'm keeping some paper towels on-hand until the excess drips out. So learn from my mistakes: too little is better than too much! But a few drops will probably NOT work. I would say start with a minimum of about 1 ml (I don't know how many drops that is, but I bet you can find a conversion table on-line).
Good luck--and let us know if you contact Crafter's Companion and actually hear back from them.
Hi! I will let you know if I hear anything back! Not holding my breath, but you never know! I also sent you a p.m.!!
I contacted Crafters companion and they ARE replacing my markers. I had to email them the color families from which I have markers in and seeing that I have 50 + it is all the color families.
She also told me that if they are not used on a regular basis they will dry out. So with that being said, I'm anxious to see how these new markers are.
Outstanding customer service from Crafters companion.
I'm glad you got a positive response, and had the courage to ask!
Thank-you Dina! You never know until you ask! If it was operator error/ misuse that would be another story, but they were not used and they were stored properly with the caps on correct!
There were so very many complaints about dry markers that I removed them from my website. It was costing me dearly to replace the markers and pay shipping on the replacements.
Blessings.
Glad they are replacing yours. How did you contact them--by phone, or by email? I STILL have not heard back from them after sending my email last week.
I have Copics and recently purchased some Spectrum Noir as they were cheap and I wanted more colours. They bleed something awful compared to Copics. I don't go near the lines because the colour will travel there on its own. I have looked at images a half hour after I finished colouring them to discover the colour had bled outside the lines. I won't but any more.
Anyone else comments on bleed outside the line? What inks are you using? thanks hotwheels

Hi! I pm'd you with contact info. Let us know how you make out!

Sandystampin1~ Not sure if it will help or not but Gina K is now selling them and if you go to her website, there maybe some info. on there, not sure though! I truly feel that if she is selling them it has to be something that she REALLY LIKES! Just a thought, or maybe even You tube!
I also had issues with over 40% of my markers drying out. I had them for less than a year. I contacted the company and actually received a response back within less that 24 hrs asking for a list of markers that were bad. They actually replaced my entire set (I own all of the sets), which I received within 7 days of initial contact.
When taking all my new ones out for storage, the only issue I had was 1 marker when it was put in the box the cover wasn't on correctly, which resulted in one end being dry. It isn't a color that I ever use, so not worried about that at all.
I'm very impressed with their willingness to replace a defective item.
I just purchased 5 sets of pens and I'm loving them. I am not an artist and have no Copics. I was deciding to get a case to store these in so I called Crafters Companion as there are two on their site with a huge price difference. Found out the black storage case is exactly the same as the light blue one only it is made with recycled materials. We then had a great discussion about the pens. I had just purchased several sets from JoAnn's and found out these are the first generation pens with all the problems - so both of my orders will be returned. I should have known something was up when you get 40% off of the larger sets along with everything else. JoAnn's does not buy their products through CC which brought me to the quality of the pens. I love them because I can use alcohol pens and they don't cost an arm and a leg. This product was actually developed for people like me who don't want to spend the money on Copics. We decided that Spectrum Noir pens are between See's Chocolates and the 99 Cent store candy - they are the Hershey bars of the alcohol pen world. I'm learning so much from the videos and am so pleased that I finally jumped in.
Those who are very good at creating with Copics will not particularly like them. They have been reformulated so the caps click in place and make the pens air tight. Also the nibs are different from the first generation. They tried to find brush nibs to fit the first generation but could not, so all the nibs have been made specifically for the second generation pens including the capability of using brush nibs. Crafters Companion will continue to sell both style nibs.
I am so happy to have been able to spend some time with the delightful lady at CC. Sorry this is so long - making up for lost time for not posting on SS for a LONG time! Happy stamping and coloring!
PS: Should have read all of the replies - it makes a big difference what kind of paper you use! A most slick surface will hold the ink in line. I just purchased the large pack of paper from CC and I have some wonderful paper that I received free from a paper company here in town and they work just great.

I call Joann store. To see if I could get them in store. They told contact Corporate office. So I did and Corporate office. say they could not get them in the store. For me to buy. I am so bummed it's meant to be I guess. With all my luck They would all be dry out anyway. I tried thanks hotwheels
I'm feeling pretty sour about the Spectrum Noirs. I bought the whole set because I kept reading over and over that there would be brush nips for them soon, and then they make the announcement that the older markers would not have them. I cannot afford to replace the entire set. Meh.
The markers in the video are the new ones. Spectrum Noir says you can't put the brush nib on the old ones. I would not have found it disappointing except they kept telling people there would be brush nibs for their markers soon.
Another point in favor of Copics. They do cost more but there are never any of these issues. I recently heard that the new Blendabilities fro SU are not refillable either. Maybe sometime down the road they say. Boy, not refillable, they shot themselves in the foot, in my opinion. Have a great day. Bobbi
I'm not so concerned about being refillable because there is no way I would buy refills for 70 markers. I would like to see them available for individual purchase. Then I could just buy the ones I use the most, as they dry out.
... to share this video - Mary Dawn talks about the Spectrum Noir Next Generation Markers and how to replace the chisel nibs with the brush nibs.
Stepping out.... [while chanting my new mantra "I don't need them, I don't need them, I don't need them"]
Thanks for this video! I am loving my next generation pens and the fact that they are refillable and nibs can be replaced. Just a reminder that these pens were not created to replace the Copics which is a fine, fine product. They are for those of us who don't have a desire to be an artist but want the fun of using alcohol pens! I could never get the hang of using my Stampin' Writers to water color, but now I can make pretty flowers and the sky is the limits for me. I so appreciate all of you Copic artists that make some of the most beautiful creations.

After reading a few posts I went and checked my markers, all 166 of them. I found 25 had dried out. I bought these a year a go and have not used them much. I went out and bought the denatured alcohol and went to town refreshing them with only 10 drops. It worked! Now all 166 work again. thank you SPS once again I leasrned something new.

Kathy, you have been back and forward in this thread and have mentioned your prismas a couple of times, at least, that I am starting to think you are trying to convince yourself YOU DON'T NEED THEM!
Yes I've been so wishy washy on the subject! But I like using both. I'm not great at blending so I usually use one shade and then color over with the same shade to make it darker in areas. I used to think I would only want refillable markers but if I can buy individual markers, I wouldn't mind if they aren't refillable. So the spectrums And prismas are staying and I'm going to add some blendabilties to the mix!
guess what went Joanns and I find the Spectrum Noir markers 6 packs and a whole bunch of them in 6 packs 14.99 I use Micheal's 40% and it make it like 9.74 or something like that. I bought 2 6 pack pinks and green's And Hobby Lobby has one set 24 49.00 you can use 40% off coupon But, I did not buy that set. I have not tried them yet. I will go buy more next week! yahoo!!!! And they are new ones. hotwheels
