Sorry, I didn't think of doing a google seach earlier. They have some totes for both machines at Amazon if anyone is interested. They even have a storage binder for the cartridges. Not sure if I want that though.
I really want to make this in wood, but haven't gotten around to it yet.... It works really well for me because I no longer use the keypad layovers or the books. Those are stored on a shelf across the room where my son can get them if he needs them (he has my baby bug since I mainly use the Expression).
When I had my old Cricut the DS wouldn't work on either of my pc's, and Provo Craft didn't know what to do about it, nor did they offer to do anything to help me.
But I've had my desktop pc made-over and got a new laptop one since then. Does the DS work with the Expression too?
My wish list is getting longer and longer. Don't know where you live , but can you see it yet? LOL.
I re-did my cartridge storage a couple months ago. I'll try to describe what I did. I have been meaning to take photos and post on my blog but just haven't gotten around to it. I used plastic tote with a removable lid. I had 22 cartridges at the time. I took the overlays and put them just inside the cover of the handbooks. I then took small plastic bags that you get at the craft store to put jewelry and beads in, punched a hole in the corner of them and put the cartridges in them. I put ribbon through the holes and tied to the rings of the handbook. For the all to fit in the tote, I have some of the bagged cartridges flipped up on top of the handbooks. They all fit nicely in there. I alphabetized them to find them easier.

Yes, CDS works with the Expression.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE SCAL. I use it much more than CDS, and I have full versions of both. I've not bought a cartridge in over 1.5 years, either .... I stopped at 35 ....

That sounds neat! Is it a pain to get the carts out of the bag every time you want to use them??
Hi everyone, ok, I had the original Cricut, and sold it. Then I turned around and bought the Expression last night LOL. (been about a year in between)
Anyway, does anyone know if the green tote on wheels is just for the original or is it big enough for the Expression?
And do you still have to buy the actual cartriges if you get the Gypsy? I thought maybe you could down load them onto the gypsy?
Thanks girls.
oh and the site I recommended has lots of other videos covering a variety of topics about the cricut, hope it helps.
what do you guys do with your boxes if you use alternative storage solutions for the carts?
I have mine lined up on a shelf under my desk. It is wide enough to line them up two deep. I may end up boxing them up to store though. I doubt I would ever get rid of them though.

Mine are 2 deep on the shelf, as well - and in alphabetical order in case I need to use one of the books or something.
Same here .... mine probably won't ever go anywhere.
Just an FYI ... my son has my baby bug, so he still uses the carts, books, and overlays. I look at the books from time to time - if my computer isn't convenient - to see if a particular shape is on there. I also have them JUST IN CASE (highly doubtful) I ever decide to give the carts away or sell them.
Also ... my mom has a Cricut and likes to borrow my carts from time to time. She has to use the keypad overlays and the books when she borrows them. She doesn't have CDS.
LOL as long as they keep inventing this stuff we'll keep buying them, I know some who have so many machines I'm sure they can't have the time to use them all!
I wanted to let you know that most of the newest cartridges are not coming in boxes anymore. :(
Also, If you copy and paste this URL, it will take you to a site, when the boxes of many (not all) cartridges, are shown from the front, or the back, so you will know what you are getting.
Full cartridges are still coming in boxes. The Seasonal Minis, which are similar to the Solutions carts (which never came in boxes), do not come in boxes.

Solutions carts never came in boxes, that also made them cheaper along with the fact they have less features. I guess rather than put more shapes/letters on carts they decided to put less on lots more carts to get them out the door quicker? Maybe thy will go along those lines in the future. You can buy boxes as separates to store these carts in.
Sew it seems
have great fun designing with your DS you'll have so many files before you know it! LOL
ok, this will make you seasoned "Chirpers" giggle...............

do any of you buy the 12x12 mats and cut them in half to use? i was looking at them thinking it would give 4 mats as aposed to the 2 in a pack of the 6x12. does that make sense how i said it?
anyways, was just curious of that could be done and if the machine would accept them ok.

I know what you mean. I keep mine unplugged when I'm not useing it because I'm afraid lightning might hit it. I've already lost 2 computers that way. Have fun, you're going to love your bug.

I'm betting all of us Cricut owners out there have had one of those moments, then had a good laugh and a shake of the head LOL
We just choose to forget !!
If you cut the bigger mats up I'm thinking you will have one of your machine feed rollers going through sticky stuff, you know how when you load your mat the rollers run down the green unsticky edge to feed the mat back and forth, if you cut a larger mat up one roller will be on a sticky edge and may not move one side of your mat for your shapes etc. Never done this but that is my guess. Could always try????

oooh...good point ! thanks...i hadnt even thought about the stickiness and the rollers!
see...thats why i am sooo greatful you all are here!

I have cut the 12x24 ones for the expression in half, and the non sticky edges are the same on both sides, so not a problem, now can't do that with the smaller one, or put some fabric strips on the side where the sticky is under the rollers and keep removing it over and over and it will take 90% of the sticky off
Just curious for those who do cut down bigger mats, does this make them narrower and do you have to watch esp for design studio how close to the edge you put your design?
I ask only that the 6x12 inch mat for working is actually 6 inches but the whole mat itself is 7 inches wide, how does cutting up the bigger mat fit with the roller width as I'm thinking you'd be missing 1/2 inch that is the border on the other side that's taped off.
Now I hope I asked that question coherently LOL I know what I want to say but not sure if I spat it out ok!
i didnt think about the total size of the mats..LOL.......i was just thinking that my bug takes the 6x12 so why not buy and cut the 12x12 to gte more for the $.......i think i would be better to just stay with the 6x12!!!
seee.....more minds are better than mine ha ha ha ;)
