Don't like the Peeps! It seems too much like eating sand. All that gritty sugar really is a turn off. Give me chocolate covered marshmallows instead!:-D

I don't want to give or make gifts that are cute but yucky, so am looking for some feedback.

Big fan of Peeps! And I'm a big fan of the Buckeyes....
so, I must share what I did a few years ago when Just Born (the Peeps company) was sponsoring a contest...
I love all this peep's talk, but, the moment I heard s'mores jars -- my ears perked way up!! Can anyone point me to a photo of one of these and some directions? YUM! Nancy
I think I am the only person in the world that does not like these. As a kid, they were always in my Easter Basket and I always gave them to my sister. I do think the Peep Jars are just adorable - I might just have to make them.
Nope! You aren't the only one. Can't stand them either. My mom would put them in my basket too. She likes them stale, so I think she did that on purpose knowing she would get to eat them after she gave me the basket. I usually get her a pack for Easter so she can open them, let them harden and enjoy.
The smores sound interesting though. I limit my sugar intake, because I found out what it does to your body and immune system. But a little here and there won't kill me, right??? ;)
Thanks for sharing the recipe. I'll make them, try them and take the rest to work. They all love anything made with sugar.

Check out post #10 in this thread. The link is there for directions.
This is actually my firstpost, so I hope it works.....I happen to have the recipe I think you are looking for. I have no idea where I got it....hopefully this works. :-)
PEEPS TREATS IN A JAR
Ingredients in the Jar:
Reduce 1 sleeve graham crackers to crumbs and layer all of the crumbs in the bottom of a 1 qt. jar.
Place 8 marshmallow bunny peeps standing up, facing out around the inside of the jar pressing them against the glass, but dont squash them.
Carefully, spoon 1/3 c. Brown Sugar into center of the jar to support the bunnies, pressing down to keep it snug.
Rest of center and on top of this, pour 1 c. Easter M&Ms.
Decorate the lid of the jar however you pleasetie curly ribbons around the neck of the jar.
On a side note...be sure to copy and give the directions to whomever you give the jar to...so they will know how to bake them peeps right up!
Directions: Empty the jar contents into a bowl. Snip the bunnies into bits with kitchen sheers or cut up with a knife. Return the bunny bits to the mixture and mix well. Melt c. butter, add 1 t. vanilla. Pour this over the dry ingredients, mixing well. Pat into a greased 8x8 baking dish. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Cool and cut into bars.
*Option: leave the bunnies whole; combine remaining ingredients and place the bunnies on top; then bake as directed
Here you go girls - recipe for the "Tomb Treats". Their real name is "Resurrection Buns" (I think Tomb Treats has a Lara Croft sound to it)
1 can Pillsbury crescent rolls (does Pillsbury have 1 or 2 "l"'s? stickler for proper spelling)
1 bag large marshmallows
melted butter
1 tbsp (approx) cinnamon
1/4 c. white sugar
Divide the segments and roll 1 large marshmallow in each; try to pinch the edges closed so as to help with seepage.
Mix the cinnamon and sugar.
Brush the buns with melted butter and sprinkle or roll each in the cinnamon/sugar mix.
Bake according to package directions (375 F for approx. 12 mins).
Let cool and enjoy!
I haven't yet made these myself, but I hear they are fabulicious!
Wow Tomb Treats I have not thought of them in years (of course I have never heard that name put to them - we were real original as we called the marshmallow crescent rolls) - I used to make those as a kids when I was about7 or 8 (I am now 42) - we used to roll the marshmallow in the melted butter and then in the cinnamon / sugar mixture as well - it made it a bit harder to wrap the crescent roll around the coated marshmallow - as the buttery / sugary bits from the marshmallow made the crescent roll hard to pinch together so it wouldn't develope a hole during baking -
We used to have contest to see whose "marshmallow roll" would not get a hole an the contents ooze out - your recipe sound a bit neater than what we did... however I guess we thought cinnamon and sugar was best if it was on the inside AND outside!
Huge blast from the past - I'll have to make some this weekend!
can anyone give me the amount of graham cracker crumbs to use in the Peeps jars? (1 sleeve of graham crackers reduces to what??? 1/2 cup, 3/4 cup??????
I have a box of GRAHAM CRACKER CRUMBS and would like to use them for Easter Peep jars
TIA

This sounds like a grand idea. I would love to se them. My mom loooooovvvvessss peeps. Every Easter I get her a basket full of them. So I'd love to make a jar for her. I can't stand them myself. My eight year old would probably love one too. She is giving up candy for Lent and has been doing a great job. Of course peeps could put her in sugar shock from not having candy for 40 days. LOL! Then I suppose I would need to make 3 more for my other girls. Oh yes great idea! do it!
