I am new to embossing.
I purchase the embossing ink and powder.
I was trying to use an old hair drier to heat the embossing powder. This didn't seem to work. Does anyone use hair driers or do they not get hot enough to emboss?
Not hot enough - sorry! Until you get a heat gun, you can try low heat in the oven. Place your cardstock on a ceramic tile or a cookie sheet and set the oven to about 225 F. I read someone on SCS held it over their toaster - if you try this be sure to use craft tweezers so you don't burn your fingers!

I know someone that tried using an old hair dryer too and it didn't work for her. Blew the powder everywhere.
Try this if you dn't have a embossing gun.
Use a frying pan and put it on med heat. Place your paper on it and move it around until it embosses all parts of it. You will it changing before your eyes, but watch it carefully or it will scorch the paper. I have used this method with great success when my embossing gun was "missing in action".
You don't need to use a frying pan (you'll end up warping it without food in it), nor a ceremic tile. Just turn the burner on and hold the CS over it. If you have a 5th burner you can use that too. Use tweezers or those metal chicken tongs to hold it. I used to do ALL my embossing this way in the 80's before heat guns were around. Use the burner on low and keep moving your CS around or it will scorch.

I used my 50% off coupon at Mics yesterday for my first gun. Embossing has been around for so long, but I never took the plunge. It cost $13 with the coupon. Glad I did it.
