We pride ourselves on being great hosts, but guests have limited access to some of our incredible artwork, our lively forums and other super cool features of the site! You can join our incredible papercrafting community at NO COST. So what are you waiting for?
Voluntarily Hosted By: Patty (Pattyb), Lorien (vz5dzh) and Tracy (TracyM.) Dates: March 27 & 28, 2009 Location: Bay Valley Resort & Conference Center in Bay City, MI {www.bayvalley.com} Cost: $50/person - Registration is CLOSED; PM me if you want to be put on the list for a last minute cancellation This page last updated on: 2.17.09
This event is designed as a SplitCoastStampers Community Event. You are welcome to invite friends, but we do ask that they register a screen name here at SCS and really make an effort to participate in the "chat thread(<---click this link). It really makes the event more fun when you have chatted with people ahead of time and gotten to know them a little bit.
There will be no vendors at this event. Vendors will not have anything on display nor will there be anything for you to purchase. The intent of the weekend is to meet and get to know other SCS'rs, not acquire customers. Solicitation of any sort is strongly discouraged. In the same regard, the roster that will be provided to those that participate is not to be used for any type of solicitation purposes.
If you plan to bring your significant other or family to the event, I suggest you check out the Bay City Visitors website at www.tourbaycitymi.org and order a free visitor's guide. They're quick to ship.
Event will include:
Get Acquainted time/Introductions/Secret Sister
Shoebox Swap
Special Guest Demonstrations from Art Declassified Stamps and Hanna Stamps!
Name Tag Contest
Prize drawings throughout the weekend
Handmade door prizes (optional)
Roster of participants (inclusion is optional)
Catered snacks (Fri. night & Sat. afternoon); Taco Bar buffet lunch (Sat.)
Coordinator Challenge Cards (and prizes of course!)
Display Walls
The Registration Form asks you if you want your name included on the Roster. You elect how little or how much information about yourself that you want included and when you receive your Registration packet it will include a list of attendees. This is list is not to be used for any type of solicition, simply meant to provide you with contact information about attendees that perhaps live in your area and you may want to to get together with after the event is over.
Registration:
This is a 2-day event; participation on both days in required (hours are listed on the Registration Form)
Registration fees are non-refundable; I will help facilitate a transfer to someone on the waiting list if need be
This is an ADULT only event; 18 and older please
Each registrant's SCS screen name MUST be included on their Registration form
Registration will be done in the order payment is received; emails or PM's in advance of payment will not be considered "placeholders"
If your Registration/Payment is received and there are no spots available anymore, you will be notified via PM and your payment will be promptly returned to you
If you are uncomfortable having your real name posted on the confirmed registration list (see post #2), please indicate that on your Registration form when you mail it in and I will only post your first name and last initial (or whatever else you prefer)
SASEs (Self Addressed Stamped Envelopes) will be used to send materials to attendees prior to the event (expect to receive this in February; I will PM you when it has been mailed out) or to return checks to those who did not make the cut-off, whichever is applicable
Swapping no vendor restrictions - participation is optional:
Full A2-size cards or 3-D items
Including the card recipe optional, but very much appreciated. If you choose to include the recipe, please put it on a post-it note and place the post-it note inside the card
Swapping will be done outside of the structured event activities on your own. This means you can make as few or as many swaps as you choose and can exchange with other attendees as you desire
If a discussion about this topic is needed, you are welcome to start a separate thread, but we request that it not be discussed on this thread or the chat thread so as not to cause confusion
We will have a display wall for the swaps, so please bring one (in a clear envie if it's a card) to post on the wall (it will then be donated to the featured SCS charity organization of the month)
Shoebox Projects - no vendor restrictions - participation is optional:
You will be put into a small group with other people who chose to participate in the "shoebox swap". Half of the group will do their Shoebox Swaps on Friday night and the other half will do them on Saturday morning. Groups have already been assigned.
You need to provide and prepare enough supplies (i.e. pre-cut cardstock, embellishments, ribbons, inks, stamps, chalks, etc.) to make 9 identical projects. PLUS you need to have 2 completed samples of your project (1 will be left in the box as an example for those who are making the project and the other sample will be put on the display wall). If you choose to, you can also make 3 additional complete samples to be given to the coordinators who are unable to participate in the shoebox swap due to other event duties.
All of your materials need to be placed in a box (does not have to be a shoebox, but it does have to be some sort of rigid type of container -- a small tote would also work). It does not need to have a lid, but your real name and SCS name need to be written or taped onto the front of the box
Projects should be simple, standard A2 cards or simple 3-D items that can be completed in 10 minutes or less and do not require a tool that needs to be plugged in to complete (i.e. heat gun). 4.25" square cards are okay, but envelope must be provided. Nothing smaller.
People will use their own adhesive and stamp scrubbers to put the projects together. However, if you project requires special adhesive (i.e. sticky strip, pop dots, glue dots, etc.) you need to provide enough for each person
It is strongly suggested that you provide one baggie for each project that has all of the materials (i.e. cardstock, embellishments, etc.) in it. This way the person will get to your station and simply grab a baggie of materials and begin to assemble the project. Think mini card kit.
If you are a visual person and would like to see what this looks like, go to "Part Deux" of the chat thread and locate post #2385 -- there are links in that post to shoebox swap photos (if you can't find "Part Deux", PM me)
Request
Patty, Lorien and Tracy will not be participating in the Swaps or Shoebox Projects due to our responsibilities at the event over the course of the weekend. We are fine with this arrangement and enjoy running the event. The only bummer is that at the end of 2-days, we won't have any of the awesome cards and projects to take home with us. So here's our request for anyone who would like to help us out. If you would like to make extra samples of swaps and shoebox projects for us, we will have 3 RAK baskets (one for each of us) at the event. This is totally voluntary and in no way required. I guarantee all cards/projects received will be greatly appreciated by all 3 of us!
Sleeping Rooms
As of the evening of 11/13/08, the room block AND hotel are now sold out. There is now a national bowling tournament going on in the city that weekend. If you are still in need of a sleeping room, I suggest you find and book alternate hotel ASAP. If you are in need/looking for a roommate, pls. post your desire on the chat thread.
Tentative Schedule of Events (subject to change as determined by the coordinators) Friday - 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm (not including Registration)
Registration - Open from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm

As additional information becomes available about the event specifics, it will be posted here. Another thread has been set up to "chat" on and get to know one another before the event. Please go to the "chat" thread and introduce yourself, don't be shy! If you have any questions, you can also post on the thread I just referenced and one of the hosts will respond to you.

The money raised from the sales of these items will help fund the SCS Michigan Mingle. The registration fee for the event pretty much covers the use of the space, food and a few other necessities. Most of the FUN stuff will be funded through the sales at Cafepress. So tell all your stamping friends. There are many items that don't have the "SCS Michigan Mingle" printed on them and they would make great gifts for any stamper/scrapper/or person with a hobby!
Each shirt raises $5, each mug/hat/tote/10 pack of buttons raises $3, and each single button $1.
Check out the front and back (if available) of the items. Some have "SCS Michigan Mingle" printed on them and some do not. The dark shirts only allow one sided printing for some reason.
We will be gathering for dinner on Saturday, March 28, at Heatherfield's at the Bay Valley Resort. Dinner is $25. I must have your meal choice & payment in advance. The meal choices are: Chicken Supreme Pan seared & topped with a bacon & onion cream sauce Chicken Marsala Pan seared deglazed with Marsala wine Baked Atlantic Salmon Fresh Atlantic salmon seasoned with dill & white wine Potato Encrusted Walleye Filet of walleye topped with crushed potato & white wine London Broil Marinated steak served with a burgundy wine demi glaze Pan Seared New York Strip Classic steak served with onions & mushrooms
Your meal will include:
 Steamed Vegetables w/lemon butter
 Garlic & chive Whipped Potatoes
 Fresh Garden Salad
 Chefs Desert Selection
 Coffee, tea, water, soda
All taxes & gratuity
Please send the attached form with your payment no later than March 11, 2009. If you would like to pay via Pay Pal, please send me a pm.
The time has come to get the Secret Stamper exchange going! This is similar to the spooky, goofy, rowdy swaps we have done the last couple of months. The major difference is that this is going to be a 3 month commitment. You will be given a partner to send items to and you will reveal yourself at the mingle in March.
Here are the minimum requirements for this exchange:
*January* - Send two cards to your partner.
*February* - Send two cards and one small treat to your partner.
*March* - Send one card to your partner. Also bring a $15 gift to the mingle to give to your partner during the reveal.
If you would like to participate, answer the following questions and send them to me (vz5dzh) via PM no later than 12/31/08. *PLEASE be specific and include multiple examples for your likes/dislikes and gift ideas. Include some that are available online (don't forget to figure in shipping) and in stores so that your big stamper has a variety of options when trying to find things for you.*

Here's where you'll find the not-so-secret Secret Sister information
Sorry for being dense, but is there supposed to be a link to click on, or do you mean it will be here in this thread at a later date?
Sorry never did one of these secret sister things, it sounds so fun!
I sent in my registration, yippeee.....
but it seems like FOREVER away, boohoo

Sorry about that. I went back and reworded it so more people won't be confused.
It is SO fun, I hope you sign up for it. It's a great way to have a connection to someone before you even go to the Mingle. And...who doesn't LOVE getting mail??

That is where info will be posted once it gets started. I imagine we will wait until we get close to being full before we start Secret Sister stuff. We each wanted to grab spots early in the thread for our parts so that it will be easy to find later.
PLEASE count me in....Bay City is in my back yard.....LOL I can be to Bay Valley in 10 minutes!!.....YAHOOOOO!! OH, and Bay Valley is only about a 15 to 20 minute drive to Saginaw that has the Scrapbook Peddler, a Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's and Michaels ((that I know of!!))
Thanks for your enthusiasm MsAudreyAnn! The sooner you send in your Registration Form the sooner you will officially be attending! Due to the magnitude of the event, we cannot hold a spot on your word alone.

You can make them whenever you want. I believe Tracy had 20 rooms set aside, but she is working closely with the hotel and will add more to our block if those 20 get booked.

Please make your reservations as soon as possible so that I can make sure we have enough rooms for everyone who needs/wants one. A credit card is required to hold your reservation, but it will not be charged until that weekend.
Any unbooked rooms left in the block will be released on 2/1/09 at which time you will have to pay whatever the going room rate is if you book after that
If anyone has any issues with making a reservation under our room block, please PM me and I will work with you to straighten the problem out with the hotel to the best of my ability.
I don't know if we have mentioned anything about it. Patty has contacted the past and present Dirty Dozen gals and asked if they would donate some of their handmade creations. They will be used as prizes.
This sounds like so much fun, I'm sending in my registration today! My friend Dawn Marie has mailed hers already and we need to book a room at the hotel so were all set.
