This is not a safe place. Someone posted that sizzix was having a sale and that one post cost me $160.00!!! Does that sound safe to you?
LOL
;)

I am going to a stamp camp tomorrow and I already have a HUGE list bacause of this site and the wonderful cards in the gallery. I haven't even seen what my demo has yet!
Diane:twisted:
I notice that you have you event posted in your signature line. I think it's a great idea. Am I allowed to do that too? I have some events coming up that I would love people to attend. I checked you link and it invites non-demonstrators and there is a fee. Is that okay for us to do? Just asking cause I want to and I think it's cool.
Thanks,
Gina
Hi Gina- the Stampin Events allowed here are those that are for the SCS community in general-NOt to benefit a specific demonstrator or business. At SCS "advertised" events there should not be ordering or purchases there, and no fee should be charged other than to cover the cost of the location and food if provided. Basically SCS events are usually shoebox swaps so that it is more of a "meeting" of other SCSers with some stamping there rather than promoting any business or stamping company's products. Hope that helps.

Multiple people have posted if you need a catalog for this or that, let me know... Why now, all of a sudden is there a problem? What is the problem and what should we, as non demos, specifically be looking out for? I want to follow all rules but this is new as much of this has gone on for a long time...??? I have ordered a TAC catalog from a Pm.....etc... What has changed, what is new, why is this suddenly a problem???
Hey, Karen, The TOS (Terms of Service) has always contained a guideline to avoid mis-use of the forum postings/signature lines, etc. for commercial/marketing/promotional purposes.
But, many may not be aware of it. Or, they may be aware of it, but . . .
Daven explains it all quite nicely on the homepage! Click on this link for ------->The Big Guy's Announcement.

Yes, I am one of the violators. I'm newer to SCS, you can tell by my number of posts so I clicked that I agreed to the TOS, but never really read what I was agreeing to.
My husband is an attorney and he would not be pleased with me if he knew that! But, it's true. I just heard about SCS and couldn't get here fast enough.
I saw lots of people refering members to their blogs and giving stuff away. Yup, catalogs too.
Then, I still wasn't really clear on the terms even after I saw a fellow SCSr's post pulled. So, I posted something I viewed as harmless but now that Daven has put the TOS into English- (I don't speak legalese very well. My husband- fluent!), I understand the error of my ways and I'm clear. Thanks Daven for the translation, BTW! LOL
I think it's still okay to ask for things. You just may get a more generic answer such as "Check the company's website for a demonstrator near you."
But, you can always PM people and ask specific questions. You can tell if someone is a demonstrator sometimes by their signature. You can always asked them questions through PMs.
I'm sure that they don't want this place to become just a million advertisments. That makes sense. When I actually have something to sell, I will buy advertising space here and support the site through that. Until then, all I have to sell is me. And I don't need to speak legalese to know that's illegal! - I crack myself up!

Thank yu for taking the time to have this discussion. love the way the title of the OP gets one curious to come and take a look see.
I READ the entire TOS, but a reminder does help, when needed. A lot of time and thought was put into the writing but ya know - not many have replied to the post acknowledging reading it. I say this, because I'm pretty sure somewhere in the thread camsmom tried to entice more of us into replying to the OP and (excuse me, if I am mistaken) she offered a prize (whether it be a smiley happy dance or a piece of her art work is was interested me.
I think it was going to go to the 300th post on the thread....so hurry and go therewith a cup of your favorite drink and read it, acknowledge that you have done so. ...and could the 299th poster end me a PM?
No edit button; I know and still. Oh gosh... I hope you all understood my post. I have a terrible habit of hitting the return button, thinking I'm scrolling up to read what I wrote.
Anyway - you all have a great day... I'm heading off to bed.

Ok, Im really confused. If I see something I like...I cant tell people about it anymore?????
You can tell people! Just think before you do! If you say,
Quote:
This company's __ is terrific! Click on my website to check it out!
And you just so happen to sell it, that wouldn't be good. Can you imagine if everyone here started doing that? :o
So share what you love, the deals you've found, whatever. Check out Daven's note here for more info. He's explained it really well there, and there's not much more I can add!
This thread is in need of bumping. There are some new people on SCS who obviously aren't aware of this policy. Remember that you cannot direct people to your personal website in your posts and tell them they can shop there. You need to direct them to the company website. You CAN have your website in your signature line but that is it.
But, it is ok for other stampers to direct folks to other SCSers' ebay stores? And it is ok to have posts by the stampers sidekick folks offering free demos. Ok to run a contest but not ok to mention that your blog is giving away free stuff? I'm not purposedly trying to sound like a pain, just pointing out that well meaning folks can break the TOS because the TOS isn't all that clear and isn't always enforced consistently. Not the biggest problem in the world or even on this site LOL Just a reminder that offenders may really not realize the scope of the rules.
Now, no one get angry at me!!!

for someone to say
"Hey I went to xyz store and it was great" OR say "I am putting in an order with xyz-any recommendations?" is different than me saying "Hey I am offering some great classes on embossing-click "here" to see my class schedule". It is also different for a consultant to say "the main website for this company is "here" " vs. "PM me if you want to take advantage of the great deal I am offering..."
Stampers Sidekick folks worked out an arrangement with Daven and were one of the 1st sponsors of the Weekly Inkling. They contacted Daven and made plans with him.
I think what Robyn is referring to is more the solicitation by new members who are representatives for a specific stamp company and join the community and begin posting about why someone should use them as a consulatnt or visit their on-line catalog-which is pretty clearly laid out in the TOS.
Of course since I helped write most of the TOS it is clear to me, LOL:mrgreen:

What if one posts a thread about if there are any "new demo" incentives going on and someone PMs that person and then sends that person an e-mail, unsolicited? Is that in violation of the TOS? Just curious since someone did that to me.

The Splitcoast Terms of Service, which can be viewed HERE, does not permit solicitation or promotion/marketing via postings in the forum, signature lines (2 simple links to a business website are permitted; promotional language or that of a solicitory nature are not permitted), nor does it permit solication of our members via the PM/email system.
If the individual PM'd you, and told you they'd send you a recruit packet/would be happy to sign you up and you did NOT request such information from them directly, YES, that is a violation of the Splitcoast TOS, and if the individual is an SU! demonstrator, it is a violation of their contract and that company's policies. I'm afraid I cannot tell you what other companies' contracts/policies are in that regard . . .
You are welcome to contact a moderator for further information, or to report the incident/individual.

That's what I thought when I received the PM and e-mail. But seeing as this unsolicited PM and e-mail that I received came from someone very high up the SCS ladder, I found it quite peculiar to see this thread explaining the TOS and to have that happen to me, given the detailed TOS, and given who it came from.
