With all of the talk in the talk about clear envelopes in this thread, I got to wondering....
How do you mail clear envelopes????
I've contemplated ordering some from SU, because I think it would be a unique way to mail my "artwork" -- and a great way to "show it off" along its route to its destination. I realize that sometimes the post office will charge extra for a clear envy, and sometimes they'll let it slide.
My question is: Exactly how do you address and stamp these? I was thinking you would insert the card so that the blank back of the card faces the front of the envelope and then put a label and stamp on the envy. Either that or actually address the back of the card, put it in the clear envy, and then stamp the envy.
Am I on the right track? Just wanting to make sure. Thanks.

When I send cards with clear envelpoes I cut a piece of copy paper the same size as the card, address it and put it in the envelope. I've never had any come back nor have I have to pay extra.
I've received them with address labels on them, and I've received some with a piece of paper in them with the address inside the envelope. Make sure you take it the post office and have them hand cancel it, cause the meter ink will smear, and the person that you send the card to will have to pay extra - I know, I've had to pay for most of the cards I get in clear envy's
I just mailed my first clear-envy cards last week for Easter! I sent two in clear envies and my customers loved them! I put one of my regular return address labels on, and used a white address label to write the recipient's address. I put all those on the "back" where the flap was, leaving the front of the card showing through the side of the envie w/o the flap. Didn't have to pay extra, but then I just mailed them with other cards and mail!

This is exactly how I send and receive them. Just use an avery label, and place it on the backside of the card.
I just wrote the receivers information on the back of the card. I do put the stamp on the outside. I have never had anyone tell me that they had to pay extra postage when they received the cards, I guess I should ask a few just to double check.
I get a lot of cards mailed to me from my demo in clear envelopes. She writes my address on the back of the card and puts her return label and stamp on the envie. I have never had postage due.
The last time I mailed a card in a clear envelope, the postperson at the US postal office told me that a fee is charged for the envelope being clear, and also extra postage was required because of the weight of the cardstock. It costs me approx. 60 cents for each card that I mail in a clear envelope.....but worth every penny, in my opinion.
I've mailed out and received TONS of cards in these envelopes for years now, and have NEVER had any trouble. No lost cards, postage due cards, etc. Until a couple of weeks ago....my SIL informs me daily, lol, that her EASTER card hasn't arrived yet. Of course, it had to be THIS one...
I've received lots of RAKs in clear envies (which I LOVE!!), and most have only the regular .39 cent stamp on them, and they get to me just fine -- I've never had to pay extra postage to recieve them. They've all had the stamp on the outside of the envelope so it could be cancelled. I've had lots of comments from my mailman too, about the pretty cards I get. I think he likes the clear envies too! ;)
I love them and have been using them for years. At parties I sell them by telling the stampers it's also a treat for the mailmen! I address a piece of paper the same size as the card and slip it inside the envelope. In fact, I often do it on the computer with a great font. The stamp then goes on the outside. BUT, I live in NY and lately the post office has required extra postage. That has put a damper on using them. Some people say they haven't gotten charged and some do. Maybe it depends on your particular post master and his/her rules.
Anytime you ask them to hand cancel, whatever your reason, they have to charge extra.
I usually take my mail to the postal counter and I never get charged extra for hand cancelling. I think it just depends on the post office....and the mood of the clerk ;)
The only time I've had to pay extra postage on a clear envy or white envy I received was when there was a button, brad or something else creating a lump on the envy. The postoffice said that stuff like that can't go through the machines.
