Stacy gave us a wonderful tutorial on doing background texture.

I do not do journals for my paintings so I did slim line cards in landscape.

For this card I applied the water colors in layers of shades of green. Added texture by scraping in the tree trunks.

Your layered watercolor approach gives this slimline scene such beautiful depth—the shifting greens and subtle sky tones feel so natural and serene. I love how the scraped tree trunks add texture and direction without overwhelming the composition. A wonderfully peaceful landscape that really celebrates the spirit of trees in nature.
