Happy Birthday Banner
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: Katchoo1

After making a Father's Day card trying out my shiny new diamond paper punch, I had two diamonds left over. I decided to cut them in half into triangles and make a birthday card with a banner.

I started with an ivory card and covered with vintage-looking patterned paper and stained the edges with walnut ink. I stamped the sentiment in Walnut distress ink.

The banner was improv and I fiddled with it for quite a while. I'll explain how I made mine in detail for anyone else who wants to make one the same way...

I ended up laying out the string in the curve I wanted and making a tiny pencil dot for the corners and one where the center should fall, then cut twine to length, leaving about an inch extra on each side.

I put the brads in just a bit inside the upper corners, laid the twine where I wanted it, and before I pushed the brad all the way through, wrapped the twine a couple of times around the brad post, then pushed it down tight to hold it. Next I put the triangles where I wanted them and used just a dab of glue stick to hold them in place on the twine. Then I took each flag one by one starting with the ones in the middle, detached and used tape runner to get the back good and sticky, going right up to the upper edge to hold it on/over the twine, and stuck them down.

It took longer than the quick "use up scraps" card I had in mind, but now that I've worked out the details of making the banner, future ones should go a lot faster. I can see making this for all different people and just changing out the paper -- delicate florals for a feminine friend, masculine colors for guys, bright or funky patterns for kids and teens!

I Love the colors/pattern mix on this one and the overall distressed look a lot
