 F4A255 Brrrr it's cold outside

This is for Robin's terrific Free For All Challenge...Baby, It's Cold Outside. All the details are here

Father Christmas was very generous with craft goodies (OK he actually gave me money to spend on craft goodies). I purchased lots of fabulous Unity Stamps!!! I love this windswept girl, I just showed DH and he asked why was her hair blowing in the wind when she was inside looking outside. I told him someone left the door open!!

Robins challenge has a bit of a twist, not only does is have to remind you of the cold weather, but to use wrinkle free technique and coarse salt or clorox wipes (bleach dabbing) as a removal technique. I had planned on doing the wrinkle free technique followed by sprinkling rock salt to remove some of the colour...I used water colour paper for the background, did the wrinkle free distress thing and the thirsty paper sucked up all the ink leaving it too dry to add salt...there was only one thing left to do...Wrinkle Free Technique PLUS Smack & Squirt technique.

Using the wrinkle free watercolour paper (with only a hint of the colours visible) I smacked some Faded Jeans distress ink onto a clean sheet of al foil, squirted on a LOT of water and using a blending tool, mopped up the inky water and gently swished it around the skyline, while it was still very wet I ground on some rock salt. I repeated the Smack & Squirt for the browny-grey layer (it is supposed to look like a foggy mist) added a bit more salt, then last of all Peeled Paint for the grass.

When everything was dry I brushed off the salt and stamped on some trees. The Unity girl was fun to colour and fussy cut (I cut her out after colouring is complete). Her green jumper is coloured with a gelato, scarf is copic marker and her hair is a combination of copics, inktense pencils, prisma clolour pencils and gelatos.

To assemble the card, I adhered the background to the card base, then stuck on a square of acetate. The woodgrain panelling is cut from a small square dp pad by Kaiser. I cut one big square out, then cut a 1/2" strip and stuck it in the centre (easier than cutting two rectangles).

I had so much fun making this, thank you for looking ladies.

What a fabulous card! I had to read the whole description to make sure I didn't miss anything. Holy smokes, what an involved process! Certainly worth it, though - this is fantastic!

The coloring is wonderful Susie! Love the highlights in her hair, the hardest part! What a wonderful window frame you created for her. Love that image and would love to have it. I also love the texture you added to her sweater! What a wonderful card and the girl looks like she is trying to stay warm like we are!

sweet card Susie...that's what I will be doing today; looking out the window and not venturing outside! It is a snowstorm here today.

Impressive use of the techniques but have grown to expect that from you. You are one of the Queens of technique. TFS your talent.
