This is for Robin's terrific Free For All Challenge...Baby, It's Cold Outside. All the details are here
Father Christmas was very generous with craft goodies (OK he actually gave me money to spend on craft goodies). I purchased lots of fabulous Unity Stamps!!! I love this windswept girl, I just showed DH and he asked why was her hair blowing in the wind when she was inside looking outside. I told him someone left the door open!!
Robins challenge has a bit of a twist, not only does is have to remind you of the cold weather, but to use wrinkle free technique and coarse salt or clorox wipes (bleach dabbing) as a removal technique. I had planned on doing the wrinkle free technique followed by sprinkling rock salt to remove some of the colour...I used water colour paper for the background, did the wrinkle free distress thing and the thirsty paper sucked up all the ink leaving it too dry to add salt...there was only one thing left to do...Wrinkle Free Technique PLUS Smack & Squirt technique.
Using the wrinkle free watercolour paper (with only a hint of the colours visible) I smacked some Faded Jeans distress ink onto a clean sheet of al foil, squirted on a LOT of water and using a blending tool, mopped up the inky water and gently swished it around the skyline, while it was still very wet I ground on some rock salt. I repeated the Smack & Squirt for the browny-grey layer (it is supposed to look like a foggy mist) added a bit more salt, then last of all Peeled Paint for the grass.
When everything was dry I brushed off the salt and stamped on some trees. The Unity girl was fun to colour and fussy cut (I cut her out after colouring is complete). Her green jumper is coloured with a gelato, scarf is copic marker and her hair is a combination of copics, inktense pencils, prisma clolour pencils and gelatos.
To assemble the card, I adhered the background to the card base, then stuck on a square of acetate. The woodgrain panelling is cut from a small square dp pad by Kaiser. I cut one big square out, then cut a 1/2" strip and stuck it in the centre (easier than cutting two rectangles).
I had so much fun making this, thank you for looking ladies.

Super job on this beauty. Your coloring is as always so perfect. I live the blowing in her hair. I feel her standing in the doorway trying to decide if she wants to go out for a pending storm. I think she is saying nope, I can wait for it to pass.

A cute card. Your windswept girl goes perfect with your windowscape. Not sure that is a real word. I think she needs to close the window. Great coloring.

Susie, this is incredible, you have really captured a Wintry Australian scene - wonderful colouring of the bg using the combination of techniques, against the woodgrain bg and the acetate just makes the scene pop!! Your little girl is coloured so well - an absolutely fabulous card!!!!

What an amazing card, Susie. You sure captured the feeling of looking out and being glad that you are warm inside. The blowing hair is probably because she is standing under a heater blowing nice warm air. I frequently miss cards in the gallery, so I have some favorite artists whose galleries I like to check...you are definitly someone whose cards I don't like to miss. My teenagers always say tnat "mom is lurking"....sounds a little better than stalking.

This is fabulous! Santa's generosity not only allowed you to get new toys, but also becomes a gift to us through the pleasure of viewing the resulting creations.

Oh, Susie, this is amazing and beautiful! What a delight to read how you've made this masterpiece! I love the scene you've created (wow, I still would love to see a video of you as you work - really! What fun it would be!)
Had to chuckle when I read how Geoff wondered about her hair blowing - men! LOL! Yes, her guy probably hadn't shut the door yet, right? Anyway, it's a stunning creation, and I love how you've achieved a wintery and "brrrr" cold scene with this darling gal all bundled up and so beautiful colored! I love the wooden window frame and imagine it must be even more beautiful IRL with the "glass" and texture! Totally love this one, sweet sis! It's so nice to start visiting galleries again! Missed you so! Hugs!!!

Don't know how I missed this one, Susie, but it is a BEAUTY!! You achieve such wonderful results for your outdoor look - so many techniques, one after another, and you always seem to make things work out for the most amazing BGs. Love the framing of the doors with the acetate to give a realistic look. I actually got a chill, looking at your girl, all bundled up with her scarf - yes, it is that spot on!!
Kind of like the way things look here today, but it is raining like crazy, not snowing, thank goodness! (I think I will stay inside too !)
