The basic layout is a CS base, Black CS on top with ticket punch corners – my NEW corner punch didn’t work for this! So I had to use some craft scissors instead.
Color Laser digital printout of Mona LisaÂ’s mouth (Postcard size) on CS adhered to base with wood/paper glue first, and weighted down for drying.
I trimmed the zipper to about 2.5-3 inches (be sure to transfer the metal stopper forward. I used a pricking needle to release the stopper and used pliers to pinch it tight where I wanted it). I cropped both ends using pinking shears and just placed the zipper over the mouth part of the digital image. Sewed it onto the card stock (adding fusing to not rip the paper).
I used zig-zag around the edge set at 2 wide and 2 long. I used a thin needle so as not to damage the cardstock (and lost 4 needles to breakage).
Before adhering to the mat, I cut a hole out of MonaÂ’s Mouth and the black CS. I put glue around the edges and left space for a small tag to be slipped in and out of the zipper.
I printed out pink lips (they were supposed to be red, but my color printer’s ink thinks that pink is the only color under the sun at the moment.) I printed on apricot 80g paper. In between the lips I wrote “ZIP YOUR LIPS!” with gel pen. It came out okay. I originally used felt tip and that bled a little. I laminated the page and cut out each of the lips individually.
(Since learning that there does NOT have to be a laminate edge around a laminated piece, I didnÂ’t worry about cutting out the lips, laminating them, and then cutting out the whole thing again.)
I punched a hole and added a grommet to the exclamation point side of the lips, cut out a tag and grommeted that at one corner – added a pink cord to connect the two so the tag can be in Mona’s mouth and the lips dangling at the side.
To complete the project, I used my home-made stamp-a-ma-jig and Mona Lisa Stamp from SU “Classic Captions”. I masked the sentiment “You make me smile” and replaced it with computer generated “Shhh…It’s a secret”. I used a shade of dark grey so it would match the stamped image better. A perfect fit. I stamped with Stazon Timber Brown which came out dark grey. I matted the finished stamp after cropping to leave a minimal edge. The mat I used is pink 80g paper that perfectly matches the pink of the lips. I adhered the stamped image to the paper with snail glue and adhered the completed piece with lots of foam pop dots.
Thanks for looking!
