stampingdenise 07-06-2006 10:21 AM

I'll go first!

Favorite Song: Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners. I love this song so much!!
Favorite Clothing: I really miss the long shirts ... the kind that covered your butt... paired with a nice pair of black stirrup pants.
Favorite Toy: I will always, always love my Strawberry Shortcake dolls.

cuccicoo1002 07-06-2006 10:30 AM

Ok, favorite song: I have to agree with Denise C'mon Eileen (although I still love Safety Dance)

Favorite clothing?? pehaps the shorts with white piping, with color coordinated knee high tube socks?? WOW - that takes me back

Favorite toy? For sure, Strawberry Shortcake, so maybe she wasn't as "cool" as she is now, but I liked her better then! Oh, and my Annie Mansion...LOVED that thing!

handstampedhappiness 07-06-2006 10:30 AM

Favorite Song: Tainted Love
Favorite Clothing: I will always love a nice crisp white shirt with the collar up and a pair of acid washed jeans. LOL!
Favorite Toy: Rubik's Cube or Ms. Pacman video game.

lenoreo 07-06-2006 10:42 AM

Darn it, all my favorites seem to be on the cusp of early 90's...:(

Favorite Song: King of Wishful Thinking (Go West) -- technically 1990, but come on....:) I guess if it has to be pure 80's, Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams"

Favorite Clothing: Hmmm...probably the long t-shirts tied to the side with one of those clip thingies. I loved that.

Favorite Toy: Cabbage Patch Kids (Madeline Jocelyn to be exact)

LSN 07-06-2006 10:45 AM

Hmmmm....

Favorite song: Tainted Love (Soft Cell) although I could list so many others.
Favorite clothing: Parachute pants (especially worn by Rick Springfield or Duran Duran).
Favorite Toy: Rubic's Cube

Linda

Fav Song: Anything Duran Duran or Pet Shop Boys
Fav Clothes: Neon day glow with leg warmers and no shoes (yes, in school even)
Fav Toy: ATARI!!!! (blip.... blip.... blip..... PONG RULES!!)

iiwiireally 07-06-2006 10:58 AM

Oh the 80s - I'm older than you chickies! In 1981 I could legally drink so I was dancing to Don't You Want Me - Human League and Let it Whip by the Dazz Band and sipping down Gin and Squirts. Favorite Outfit for a clubbing - tight, short black skirt, white blouse and mandatory 4" pumps (okay, hold the hoochie comments!). Favorite game... well... some of us thought flirting was a serious game back then!

Now I listen to my 80s music on my ipod and wish I could still wear the outfit or at least the 4" heels!

lenoreo 07-06-2006 11:05 AM

ATARI! I forgot ATARI! My favorite game was...darn, I don't remember the name. Sec, my husband will know. Actually he didn't, but I'm sure it was Frostbite. And Freeway. I loved the chicken crossing the road. Man, too many memories...

sassybee 07-06-2006 11:06 AM

Favorite Song: Anything by Depeche Mode
Favorite Clothing: Members Only Jacket
Favorite Toy: Atari

stampingdenise 07-06-2006 11:08 AM

I LOVED our ATARI games!!!! We always wore out the joysticks and had to buy new ones all the time!

I have more Strawberry Shortcake dolls now than I did in the 80s! Good old ebay.... ;)

lenoreo 07-06-2006 11:10 AM

My whole family used to play Seaquest together, and actually keep track of scores. It was so much fun to play with my Mom and Dad (and even my brother I guess....:) ).

stampingdenise 07-06-2006 11:18 AM

Hey, remember the yummy lip gloss in the slider tins? That stuff rocked. Definitely some of my favorite stuff I remember from the 80s.

:)

nicksmom917 07-06-2006 11:20 AM

Cool thread!

Favorite song: Centerfold. Or anything by Journey, Foreigner or my Footloose soundtrack or my Top Gun soundtrack.

Favorite clothes: It would have to be the big *____* (fill in your color here) button-down shirts with the collar up over stirrup pants with several layers of socks in different colors and high-top tennis shoes.

Favorite Toy: Hands down my Cabbage Patch Kids with my Simon coming in a close 2nd.

basurok 07-06-2006 11:22 AM

I liked that Material Girl song by Madonna and of course the madonna white t-shirt under something torn and tattered...and the black rubber bracelets.

Told my foster son recently that I went to a Patty Smyth concert and he goes who? I think she was one that had only one smash hit. ;)

PS>>I was big into the jelly shoes too!

stampingdenise 07-06-2006 11:24 AM

I think it's really sad that those beloved jelly bracelets have "new" meaning nowadays. (Try googling "jelly bracelets" and you'll see what I mean... just don't do it at work!!! LOL)

Favorite Music... Duran Duran - by far... but then Chicago, Madonna... I was a brat packer... St. Elmo's Fire, Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, Breakfast Club... Had all of the soundtracks.... on casette...

Favorite Clothes... I had the whole Madonna get-up... black lace fingerless gloves, black lace ankle socks... tons of black rubber bracelets, scrunchies... I also lived in Oxford shirts... loved them... I was such a wannabe.... It is sad, really...
I had quite the collection of scrunch socks, too... every color... never wore less than two pair in coordinating colors, with stirrup pants and penny loafers...
Favorite Toy... I was a Strawberry Shortcake girl, too...Had almost all of them... I found them last year, they had been boxed up together... smelled like dust and fruit salad...

genie1314 07-06-2006 03:29 PM

two 'words'...BON JOVI

stirrup pants tucked into the scrunchie socks. the socks that coordinated with the banana clip, of course.

strawberry shortcake, garbage pail kids (was that the 80's?)

stamphappy6805 07-06-2006 03:39 PM

Soft Cell Tainted Love which I danced to endlessly at my now husband's frat parties. I wore a lot of acid washed jeans and preppy type clothes. I loved my preppy purse where you could change the cover to match your outfit. I know, how silly was that??

I was in middle and high school during the 80's so my favorite toys were my albums which I blasted on my old style stereo.

Too fun.

sullijay 07-06-2006 03:42 PM

I had to reply to this since my 18-year-old always says I'm stuck in the 80's! I listen to mostly 80's music in the car and the 80's channel on my digital cable. I love it all! Clothes- I remember wearing shirts with ruffles down the front, colored ribbons around the neck, the scarves that you tied a knot at the bottom of, my navy blue sweater with the rainbow across the chest and arms, my Jordache jeans with my duck shoes. Oh the memories!!!!! Also loved atari!!! I played Breakaway or Breakthrough (can't remember the name) all the time with my grandma. Thanks for all the great memories!!!

Jamie

Novell 07-06-2006 05:08 PM

Wow, you guys have good memories. You're scaring me with all these flashbacks! I totally forgot about the duck shoes and Forenza v-necks (mine was magenta). Had my 9th grade picture taken in the ruffled shirt and my 10th grade picture taken in my polo shirt with the flipped up collar under a v-neck vest. Yikes!!!

mrikitty 07-06-2006 05:36 PM

Ok, well, my kids were born: 1982 (I was 22), 1986, 1987
so again, I am not in the same age group as most of you but i'd have to say:

songs: Talking heads (Little baby, Little peepee, little toes) was HUGE right around when my son was born, too much!...i too like half the songs you all mentioned, my oldest is a HUGE Bon Jovi fan, Def Leppard, Poison etc.

Foriegner and Boston and Aerosmith were my favs, and jefferson Starship, but I think they were all more popular from the late 70's then the 80's...I could be wrong. (I graduated in june 1978 )

My little pony was big, my daughter was into that. and we had atari and Intellivision. Fraggle Rock was the new biggie...as you can see on my avatar! My oldest still loves the fraggles!

I loved stirup leggings with wigwam socks (cheerleader socks) slouched down instead of folded...these used to be worn folded in the 70's, FYI! LOL

I liked the taylored blouses that came with ties!

gmcbunny 07-06-2006 05:40 PM

Yikes - the 80's were scary at times. The lip gloss sliders were awesome, I had a tangerine one :)

Favorite Song: Anything by Bon Jovi - OK I spent the 80's with the nickname the metal maiden so I have a soft spot in my heart for all those hair bands and such

Favorite Clothing: I totally agree with the big shirts covering my b***and the socks - Oh yeah and my lettermen's jacket to top off - and don't forget the poofy hair - I also had a pair of boots that kind of were scrunched down

Favorite Toy: Atari

mrikitty 07-06-2006 05:47 PM

mrikitty 07-06-2006 05:49 PM

I *adore* Pretty in Pink. I love it. My mom taped the movie when it was on TV... and we'd watch it over and over and over again.

Last weekend, DH was flipping thru the channels... why do men do that? Anyway, I saw PIP was on, and I made him stop and watch it with me!!! I laughed because I was so naive in high school... I never saw any smoked illegal substances (KWIM?) and DH teases me for being such a goody-goody. :) Anyway, there's a scene in the movie where James Spader is rolling some.... and I'm like "I don't remember ever seeing that...." and my DH was like "that's because it was right under your nose and you never even realized what it was all those times you watched it!" Then I realized it was because I always watched the TV version!!! LOL...

Anyway, I love that movie. I love Jon Cryer. And I love Molli Ringwald's clothes. I *so* wanted to be like her.

I also love St. Elmo's Fire. It had the best soundtrack. :) They sure don't make movies like that anymore, do they. ;)
