I've never noticed a difference with the SU CS...now with Bazzill I have noticed a difference. It is a little less textured on one side than the other!
If you cut our CS with a Fiskars cutter it "crimps" the cut edge a bit, downwards, so the side looking up at you in the cutter is the "right" side to me...hope that makes sense.
Every piece of paper has a natural "fold" to it. If you take a piece of cardstock and hold it over steaming water, the paper should bend a little. This should help you to know what side is the "back". If you fold your paper the wrong way the paper will crack and split, not very attractive!

I definitely think there is a front and back on SU paper! There will be a slight bend, but if you've got good fingers, you can feel at the edges one side will be smooth at the edges, and one side will feel rough at the edges. Hard to explain, but it's true. Don't know if I've just got super sensitive fingers or if this is all just a figment of my imagination;)!!
I've never noticed ... or even thought of this - except for things like glossy where it's staring me in the face!
However, it could be that I'm not into details as much.
I've found that just by balancing the paper on my fingertips, I can see a definite "bowing" that tells me which side I want to score the paper on. If the paper is curving downwards, it's rightside up and I score along the top.
since paper is a natural product it will have a "grain" you always want to go with the grain with folding...but I've never noticed on smooth cardstock which is a "front" or "back" side...
