Where else can I buy a Paper piercing template/tool other than Stampin Up?
I have a project in mind where I want to do some faux stitching, and I noticed that the tutorial on SCS uses the Stampin Up's paper piercing template and tool. I would like to do this project over the weekend, and obviously cannot get a Stampin Up order sent in and delivered in 24-hrs - LOL :p
I did a quick online search on Michaels website as well as Beverly's Fabrics, and I didn't find anything. Anyone have any luck finding them outside of Stampin Up?
Michaels sells the Tim Holtz ruler and it has a great piercing guide. Just use it along with a mousepad or something similar. The great thing about the ruler vs. the plastic template is that the ruler holes are spaced evenly ( I have had 2 of the SU! ones and they aren't as uniform as they could be), don't get "bigger" after lots of punching, and because it's a ruler, the spacing is the entire length of 12", not just a few inches like the SU! one. Use a coupon and the ruler ends up costing about $3-4 or so.
Our Daily Bread Designs has a selection of Ornare templates and the tool needed for piercing. I bought a couple at a stamping show and really like them.
I've also found the piercing tool on Ebay.
Here is the link to the store. http://www.ourdailybreaddesigns.com/
My LSS has Bazzil stitchz and jewel templates. They can both be used for that. I know because I accidentally bought the jewel templates instead, but it just has larger holes, and I poke a hole at the front and back of each hole. I love them, and want more! I love the look it adds!

Thank you for the suggestion! I went to Michaels and picked one up today!
I use a piece of plastic mesh (the one with the round holes) and a large needle..I can make an 11" long row of stitching without moving the sheet of plastic...works great for me

I also use the plastic mesh. Use the smaller one made for cross stitch, not yarn. I use a sharpie to draw on any patter I may want to use. You can also use some of the round ones for circular areas. I have the Su matt pack & use it more for setting brads in corners. JIL
I also use the plastic mesh. I have both small and large sizes. One tip I learned if you have the larger mesh, is to pierce in the same corner of each one, which gives you more uniform spacing. Another thing I have done is cut the mesh into strips the exact width of the card sizes I use most. And doing this also makes the mesh more portable and more easily stored.

Caution: You are entering an artistic zone. This is not clutter - this is creating. These are not pajamas - it's my work uniform.
If you're in a pinch....What about an old fashioned sewing machine with no thread?
You can adjust the type of stitch and stitch length and go!
Just practise on some computer paper first to see what you can do!
only drawback is it's not portable!
later when you have time you can surf the net..... I seem to remember that HOT off the press had some kind of sewing template.
Does anyone know if a child's sewing machine would work for us crafters? I see them every now and then especially around the holidays. They are so cheap, I am not sure if they are worth it.
I do have a SU set ... BUT....
I use plastic canvas as well. I bought a number of 12x12 sheets at the dollar store and traced various shapes onto them with a permanent marker and cut them out. You can trace and cut any shape you need, not just a line. With the outline I can adjust the size of piercing according to the card or create double lines easier.
I use a large mouse pad also purchased at a dollar store.
and a large push pin to make the holes, I got that at staples, and I find it easier to hold than the SU tool.
those purchases were significantly cheaper than the SU tool kit and I find that I use them more frequently
I posted I used the Making Memories Paper Piercing tool. I have found something better. Don't laugh but it really works. I have a sewing pin stuck inside one of my old glue nozzles. Don't ask why I did this, lol. ;) I have cats who knock things off my desk so I stick small sharp objects where they can't hurt little paws or human feet.
I needed to pierce an item one day. My pin was lying on the table with my foam pad. Voila! Perfect piercing and I could hold it better than the MM Piercer.
Pin in an old glue tip. Mine was from a Diamond Glaze bottle.
