Default Global Pencil Case for Colored Pencils Question

Extreme newbie here. DH bought me the 132 set of Prisma. I was looking at buying the global pencil case, but the one I was looking at was for 120 pencils. Do they make one that holds 132 pencils? If not what do you all use/do?

Thanks,
Rene'

I use two... 120 is the biggest case they have. They are so nice though! If there's a color set you don't use often, you could put them in another container - I did that with my greys for a while, before I got my second case.

Has anyone replied to this post? I have been searching everywhere for the comparison to CTMH colors to prismas. I have the SU! and of course my colors to CTMH aren't complete for me to do a trial of colors.

Hi Beth - my parents live in CDA! I don't have this information... sorry I can't be any help... did you look in the section of the forums that has charts and lists?

My OCD is showing again. I have had a list of Prismas that I did in numerical order for several years. It is good for inventory, but I recently learned how valuable it is to have a chart done like a palette or color wheel to use while you are working. But every chart I've come across has had a couple of errors, colors left off, the names not quite right etc. I kept comparing lists, trying to determine the most correct. I thought I had it, UNTIL I came across the Prismacolor website. Now THEY surely have all the colors listed and done so correctly, yeah! Just one problem with their chart... the space to color is so small, it doesn't help me see the color well enough while working. So using their list as a guide, I corrected the one I had. Below are my FINAL two charts, with absolutely no errors.
Here is a link to the chart on Prisma's website, scroll down to where you see a green pencil on the right with the words, "know what pencils you can put to paper." Then click on "get the download."
Prismacolor website
Attached are the charts I made: numerical order pages 1 and 2, and palette order pages 1 and 2. Use if you like.
Attached Files
File Type: xls prismacolor chart.xls (49.0 KB, 59 views)
File Type: xls prismacolor chart 2.xls (44.0 KB, 30 views)
File Type: xls number order prismacolor chart.xls (48.0 KB, 27 views)
File Type: xls numerical prismacolor chart 2.xls (43.5 KB, 27 views)

Default Constructive Criticism Request

I have posted some early tries to my gallery here.

Green Dragon

Purple Dragon

Orange Dragon

Tried to improve my coloring techniques with each one. I am pleased with each one. However, Orange Dragon got a bit muddy when I tried to add some brown and yellow to his body.

Thanks
Tricia
PS Reading through this tome of a forum. Only on page 25 or so...learning lots.

No, I am new to this whole thing. I dabbled in scrapbooking about 7 years ago, but had two very small children. Now they are a bit older. I am learning and teaching them what I am learning.

My daughter made a get well card for a family friend. It turned out really cute. He loved it. I am glad she is able to see how something she made can encourage and give pleasure to someone else.

Found a good tutorial Prismacolor Pencil & Gamsol Tips... - Sassy & Sweet Notes

I like her idea for containing the gamsol. I am using a plastic gum container with sponges cut to fit. It's working great. The bottom is a thick plastic and I am watching it for failure per some earlier posts.

Default Prismacolor chatter

I have been quite happy using my crayola pencils and recently started using oms. I went to an art supply store to purchase some stumps and the clerk ( who paints) asked if I had ever used the colorless prisma pencil ( all wax) to use to blend their pencils. I have not tried it as yet, but I also purchased two prismas and will try it on both brands of pencil.

Has anyone here had any experience using this prisma blending pencil?

Yes, I have one and use it for small areas where it is hard to get a stump into.

I use it all the time. It won't work on Crayola pencils though as they are not waxy - which is what blends.

That's interesting as I was told it would work on all colored pencils because they all contain wax. This was from someone who uses this medium in the art supply store I was in. Guess I will just have to try.

Suzy, These are beautifully done Very classy and artistic. I especially like the way you did not over-embellish your cards, which let's your artwork really shine. I recently looked through a bunch of blogs and was shocked at how over-the-top some people went with bows and flowers.

thank you so much....I really enjoy coloring. Thank you on the compliment about the over all cards. I seem to have a big variety of things in my gallery these days. But, I agree...I just can't get into the "over done" look of bows and flowers.

Be careful to buy the right pencils! Someone gave me a few stamps, and from there I watched You Tube and visited this site and fell in love with this craft. I heard about Prismacolor pencils, so went to Michael's and bought a set. Later, I purchased a few extra colors from Blick arts online. Maybe I'm a bit slow, but I couldn't figure out why the Michael's pencils just wouldn't blend as well as the ones I bought from Dick Blick. Duh! I had purchased the Prismacolor Verithin ones at Michael's, not realizing there were different kinds. Verithin pencils do not blend well IMO.

That is very interesting. Does anyone else find this to be the case? When I purchased my colorless prisma pencil ,I picked up two verithin pencils. I did not realize they make 3 different types. this one being the cheapest of the three I believe. The clerk told me one of the differences was that these dont break as easily as the thicker ones.I had previously only tried the regular prismas when I attended Scrapfest and used oms at the time with a stump. Before I purchase any more I would like to hear from other Prismacolor users and their experiences between these two pencils. Thanks much.

The Verithin pencils have a harder lead, for more precise detail work. They're not made for blending, probably not as high a wax content.

Here's a video from Blick that explains the differences between some of their pencils.....

Thanks for the info Dina. That helped clear things up - as a newcomer to the art world, I totally missed this when I bought mine. Good thing I only invested in a small set!

Hooray! I love finding more people that love their Prismacolors! I use either Prismas or my watercolor crayons for almost all of coloring needs - occasionally I use chalks or acrylic paints. I decided not to wade into the waters of Copics (and like markers) since I have enough money vested in the pencils I have.

I really like that just by varying pressure, I can get totally different looks from the same pencil. I've never tried using Gamsol, but I do have the colorless blender, and also have used the 10% Cool, Warm, and French greys, White, Cream, and Cloud Blue for blending - great for achieving different effects. Gamsol may be the next thing on my list.

Welcome Laura! I use both forms of blending... actually I like the OMS for more 'quick' coloring and use the blender pencils when I feel like taking more time and adding more detail. I have just started using different colored pencils for blending, too. I've been using markers more recently because of a freelance contract obligation, but pencils are my first love... when I'm stressed I make charts and put them in rainbow order, and buy more. LOL!! We're all a little 'funny' about our pencils in here.

LOL Yeah, I totally fit in that 'funny' category! I just about choked the other day when I got an e-mail from Prisma telling me that they've added new pencils (and brought back some old ones)! I haven't even purchased all the ones that were on my wishlist from before... and now there are new ones?! I don't have a "gotta catch 'em all" mentality with most things... but my pencils certainly do inspire that feeling!
