New cuttlebug - Now what?!
My DH bought me a cuttlebug. What do I need to buy so I can use this thing? I've heard of embossing folders and nestabilities. The nestabilities are what I want, but I can't afford them right now. What else?

If you buy a set of Nestabilities from ucutathome.com you can use a 40% off coupon. A set would cost you around $57.00 and don't forget to get a tan mat for the embossing which is around $8.00. You won't be sorry about buying the set. My first set was the rectangles and I use that one the most...
Check out my blog on how to cut and emboss with the Nestabilities in the Cuttlebug: khering.blogspot.com
I love my cuttlebug, but I don't use it for diecuts. I strictly use it to emboss, and the size of the large folders fit perfectly to cover a whole piece of paper big enough for making cardsl
you go to any scrapbook store and look in the cuttle bug section, you will see tons of foldersl They range from6 - 12 dollars, however, most stores sell them 40% off every few weeks.
I don't know what the other thing you want is. but when you find out I would love it if you let me know!!
i don't know if this was helpful, but I tried!! Good luck! and I am sure you will love it when you get the hang of it.;)
I mostly use mine for embossing too - I havent had it that long and only have a few embossing folders but I use my bug on almost every card! If you get 'patterened' folders rather than ones that say 'birthday' etc you'll find them more useful. I also got an alphabet in one of the January sales and have found it handy to personalise cards, though even it was quite expensive (think I paid about $40 but they are probably cheaper in the US anyway!!) I'm going to splash some of my birthday cash on a set of nestabilities as I agree they are quite expensive ... watch this space for every card to have scalloped frames!!!
I use mine primarily for embossing also, and the folders are inexpensive. Full price they're about $5 but they go on sale frequently at all the craft stores. The bug is one of my favorite all-time stamping purchases. Have fun!

I have more embossing folders than anything else. If you want to sample die cutting..consider grabbing a duo set..die cut with a matching EB.
I love the butterfly one.
You can get embossing folders at a really good price from Cutters Creek. They have free shipping for orders above $10 too! Register and login as a member to see the low price.
I love my CB. I don't have the nestabilities. Search the gallery for cuttlebug, and see what looks you like the most. I would suggest the following for your first purchases:
A few backgrounds, such as swiss dots, tapestry, swirls. These can be used to cover a front of a card, or by embossing just part of the card to do just part. You can also just emboss and layer with them.
Do you have any circle or oval cutters or punches?
I'd like the nesties also, but can't justify the cost as I have so many other things.
The CB is my favorite craft item, and I use it all the time. Good luck. I'm sure others will have good suggestions for you.

You'll love your Cuttlebug! My 'bug is always out along with my Score Pal and paper cutter.
I agree with the others that suggest buy embossing folders first because they are so reasonably priced. There are always coupons that can be used when you purchase one.
Look in the gallery under Cuttlebug and there will be loads of examples that the maker used a CB when making the card. Another place to look for examples is www.heartprints.net/gallery/cuttlebug. This lady has some awesome examples using the cuttlebug.
I agree about the embossing folders.. they make a simple card look WOW with the front embossed, a little sentiment and some embellishment, and y0ou have a great card! I have a few dies (seasonal, Mickey, pirates) and an alphabet, but the folders get the most use. Like you, I am holding off on the nestabilities.

I am sorry, but I still can't figure out what the "nestabilities" are. Are they the 2 dies, the background and the diecut on top? where do I find these? I love my cuttlebug, and if there is something I don't know about it, I really want to find out! Just like everyone here, it really is one of my favorite tools.
The nestabilities are dies that are really made to go with the Wizard, but can be used in the CB. They have many selections, such as oval, circles, rectangles, etc. They not only cut the shape, but then emboss a little line around them. I believe they are used mostly for making frames. I think many places have them. Search the forums for nestabilities, and you'll find several sources. I don't have them, yet. Eileen

one of the things I love to do currently is to take the stamp pad and rub it right on the folder itself( the side where the printing is) and then emboss on white card stock. just makes the embossed image pop like nobody's business.

learned that technique here on SCS.
Ooh, thansk for sharing. I'm still dreaming about nestabilities too. I'll let you know what I buy when I can afford it.
