I just got some Fiskars texture plates and want to use them in my Bug. The recipe I found on here says Plate A, Texture plate, cardstock, thin rubber sheet (gray) then plate C.
WHAT else can I use for the thin rubber sheet, or where can I get one??? Also, I read above that sizzix dies break the Bug plates...is this also true of Fiskars plates?? I don't want to hurt my Bug!!!!
First, it was probably my post that you read. It's not that Sizzix dies automatically break CB plates! It's that--because they are bigger--they cause more wear on the plates than the CB dies do! I use my Sizzix dies all the time!
Instead of the "thin rubber sheet," some people have used fun foam or plumber's gasket purchased from Home Depot/Lowe's. You can also order a Wizard Charm Embossing kit and use the tan mat.
I was at Scrapfest at MOA last weekend (what a blast!). The Sizzix booth did a make and take with their texture plates. WOW do they emboss deep! Through like TWO or THREE layers of cardstock at one time even! They appear to be the same overall depth as the Fiskars ones, and I believe about the same feed size.... I may seriously need to pick some of these up for my bug! (I like using my Fiskar's ones, but the impression just isn't crisp as we've discussed before...)
Carry on!

Alright, I have a question !! (imagine that) I will be buying a Cbug soon just waiting on coupons how wide are the embossing plates ? I do cards so my concern is the width or will I have to put in in couple times?

I don't own any Fiskars plates, so I can't tell you! Lots of people use them, and I see cards made with them in the gallery. That seems like a pretty good endorsement. :-)
For years I drew the line at buying die cut machines as I bury my 2nd bedroom in crafting supplies. Well, you ladies convinced me. I bought my Cuttlebug yesterday at Michaels with a 40% off coupon. I just bought an Alphabet Set (your not the boss of me) on e-bay for $29 after shipping, in addition to a few die cuts on Joann.com. Now I'm eying the scallop sets on Papertrey.... Boy, keep this up and all my friends will only be getting cards for x-mas! Thank you for the great info!
I've done major damage to my credit card on the Papertrey holiday sets and dies. Happily existing without Cuttlebug or knowing about Papertrey, then WHAM! Where is the thread for shopaholic's anonymous?
I think this is the best place to post this question...
I jumped on the 'Bug wagon and though I haven't had much chance to play with it, I've already purchased (and received!!) my Nestabilities I purchased from Papertrey.
I don't have the Spellbinders Charm kit, so what would you suggest for the embossing sandwich? And any hints on what weight cardstock embosses the best?

I haven't even ordered any yet, so I'm not sure! I thought Nichole at Papertrey had some accessory packs? Or maybe that's EllenH?
thanks lezzels,
i checked out the *NEW* cbug emb. folders!!! I luv the swiss dot, numbers and music ones!!! will wait til they go on sale at crazyscraps.com! I have introduced cbug to several of my friends. They all want they own, so they will not be borrowing mine! Also they want their own emb. folders too. So no borrowing!!! We are having a blast w/ the bug. Seems that cuttlebug is taking suggestions on background patterns? Can't wait to buy the swiss dot!
Oh, I will absolutely have to have the music one! Love it! (and the swiss dot, too).
And I've been experimenting with office supply cardstock, my nestabilities and fun foam to find a sandwich that will get a nice clean embossing like Nichole does over on her blog. Nothing has worked so far! So last night I broke down and ordered the wizard embossing mat (and the magnetic mat) from Ellen Hutson.
Man, this has been a crazy craft-buying spree week!
no worries amy........ it show the memory not gone yet ..lol
But how nice is their new stuff............. I NEED the paisley, music and .......... well you gals know the story....... hehe
So much to learn! (and to buy!) I ordered my cbug last Friday. ordered some dyes (dies?) on Sunday. Dies arrived yesterday. Still waiting on the cbug. I wanna PLAY! *cry*

That sounds fabulous! Wish I woulda picked up some of those Hershey's Nuggets at Target this morning...of course I don't have my Papertrey stamps yet so all I'd be able to do was eat them (and being pregnant, I'm uber-craving chocolate!)

Here is my strategy (although when I'm pregnant, my strategy is to eat everything chocolate that is in sight!):
I buy the *big* bags of nuggets at Sam's Club, which is hazardously close to my house. (Well, actually about 5-6 minutes away, but we live out in the country, so we're not used to close shopping!) I separate out all the milk chocolate/toffee/almond ones, because they are just special! :-) Then I make decorated nuggets out of all the others. It's a very fair system! The toffee ones give me enough energy to decorate the others!
Don't know if this has been posted but the cuttlekids fit the cuttle bug and they have some absolutely cute ones.. I bought the pig and made a piggy card.. Check it out in my gallery if you want..
The Happy Alphabet and Numbers are really really cute too.
I have a general question and I'm sure each person has her (or his) own opinion - if you don't mind. I just ordered a cuttlebug. It should arrive any moment (come ON fed ex! - deliver! I can SEE that it's on the truck for delivery.) What are some basics I should purchase? I got asterisks and some corners and I'm foolishly looking at a couple of alphabets. I have a TON of brass stencils, embossing powders, a few stamps, pens and inks, glitter glues galore, water color pencils, markers, and colored sharpies. I think I'm stalling. I picked up some pink, mauve, burgandy and deep blue CS at Hobby Lobby yesterday (Yay clearance zone!) and a number of those variety packs (when they strike my fancy - I buy one. Too many toys and no direction. ugh! Oh - I am going to attempt a birthday card this afternoon.
You really do need a couple of embossing folders to go with it. They have them at Michaels and Hobby Lobby and they don't cost much.
I like some of the die cuts with the Bug, but my favorite feature is the embossing. It is simple and makes your cards look so professional and elegant.
I would recommend getting D'Vine Swirls for a basic embossing folder if you can just get one at a time. If you're making a birthday card, they have a darling birthday embossing folder.
Have fun!

Thanks! I did get the thank you and birthday embossing folders. I forgot to mention that. D'Vine Swirls? I'll look it up. Thank you for the suggestion. I don't plan on getting too many embossing folders because ... *blush* I must have 70 brass templates for dry embossing. I found a 40% off coup for Hobby Lobby that expires today ... so I may just HAVE to run over there (again).
