I've never cut anything from a cartridge apart from the day I bought the machine and that was just to test it. Over a year later and I still use scal & the cricut most days for cutting aperature & shaped cards, origamic architecture, exploding boxes, nesties and on the odd occasion a word or 2. It cuts quickly & well and is easy to use I couldnt ask for anything more from it. Even my other friend who isnt too good with a pc was able to use scal straight away for simple words and shapes. It took about half an hour before she was confidently cutting out clip art and other images.
I just bought the cricut exprission to get the Disney characters, are you saying i can get them through scat, whatever that is?
You can do anything but you need a good quality image to work from. You can either break the image into seperate layers in inkscape or a graphics programme if you want to paper piece them. You'd still need the cricut and SureCutsALot software but you wouldnt *have* to buy the carts if you didn't want to. If a cart has lots of images that you'd use frequently they're still worth buying. I just don't use them because apart from nesties I don't use traditional diecuts in my crafting.

And to that one post asking if the CraftRobo will work with QK's software, the answer is NO. The QK software will only work with the Silhouette machine.
If it works with the SIL then it will most likely work with the CR - they are the same machine just rebranded under the different distributors. They use the same print drivers.

You can call QK customer service for sure, or if you have a CraftRobo, try it. I'm pretty sure it will not work, because if it did work, then people wouldn't buy the Silhouette machine. They just buy download QK software for free. They also encrypt their files, so you cannot use their .gsd images outside of the Silhouette.
When I had my Wishblade (which is another rebrand of the craftrobo), and I downloaded the QK software, when going to cut, it will not recognize any other cutter except for the Silhouette.
It's not too difficult to learn the software. There are a lot of videos, blogs and tutorials out now for the Silhouette. You have a great Silhouette Yahoo group you can join. There is always the Silhouette blog that has several tutorials per month TwoPeas even has a course you can take.
The new software is the Silhouette Studio and it's a lot easier to learn than the old Robo Software. Many of us are still keeping our old Robo software until Silhouette Studio is completed. Right now it's in that stage of finished Beta.
