I would definitely recommend Brushos by far and I have tried all 3 of these different products. My friend Diana says Bisters or Color Bursts are like M an M's where Brushos are like Godiva chocolates(the best)! That was so funny but she hit the nail on the head with her description,no comparison. If you can't afford the 24 of Brushos the smaller sets are very affordable from Amazon or Dick Blick.
I'm getting ready for my class this weekend and was totally distracted earlier playing with Color Burst on glossy photo paper - such interesting results!
Dina,
Your samples are amazing! You have convinced me I NEED these. I was truly hoping I wouldn't feel I would want them, but I so love making my own backgrounds, and these are so lovely. Now, if I can just wait until Christmas!
I purchased the Brusho 24 set through Dick Blick last October,it is fabulous! The colors are luscious. Brushos have been around in Britain for decades apparently even used in schools. They are new to the US.I fell in love with them after seeing Hermine Kloster's work on the Viva Las Vegas website. If you search on Pinterest for Brushos or Bister Cards or Tutorials you will find many examples of how beautiful the colors are, very radiant and intense. I think you can now order them from Amazon too. I also ordered the Bister 8 color set from Brake for Stamps the colors are muted whereas the Brushos are vibrant. The Bister set came in very small containers compared to the amount in the Brusho containers. I think the Brushos will last a very long time and I would recommend them to everyone who likes Mixed Media.
I have a Dick Blick catalog, but can't find it under Brusho, watercolor crystals or Ken Oliver. Can you help enable me?
Dina, those BG are amazing, so vibrant I also love coated card. I haven't used gloss but the matt and silk works in the same way.
Personally I love both my Bister and Brusho for the reasons mention previously, the muted tones of the bister gives an amazing antique look and the range of colours in the brusho give you some really bright bold colours. I don't have colour burst but I'm sure it's the same as the brusho. if anyone has the opportunity try it with embossing paste, a small amount goes a long way

Dina, your backgrounds are beautiful! I wish I lived close enough to attend your classes!
I just ordered the set of Bisters after watching a video. I can't wait to try them. I don't know if anyone watched the video, but she used a small brush to flick the powder on the paper. That seemed like a neater, more economical way of getting it on the paper. Lord, I have to quit reading and watching all the stuff re color mediums. I'm so addicted. Aaugh!

I switched all my brushos and bisters to eye dropper bottles (thanks Dina) and I made a bit of a mess and apparently I had little dots of powder on my clothes because when we had our carpet cleaned, the cleaners asked what were the color dots they kept finding in the carpet down the hall into the kitchen!
Apparently the color crystals didn't come up when I vacuumed so when they hit the crystals with the steam they burst into color. Thank goodness they could get them out because our carpet is a very light tan and that could have been a disaster.
I bought a hand vac and will make sure I clean myself before leaving the stamp room and tracking the crystals through the house!!

Hmmm. I'm now rethinking purchasing these as I am not always neat and would hate tracking something that is so high in pigment. We have only area carpets, but I know I would ruin at least several of them.
I am addicted. I bought Bister, Brusho and Color Burst. I keep them (Brushos and Bister) in a plastic container like tupperware and inside a ziplock lg bag. I have high humidity also but I like your idea Dina. If only I could do that without winding up like klh54 with it all over my floor! (gray rug) I have been looking for online classes using these products. Any interest Dina ?
Since you own all three products, can you tell me what the differences are? Why would you buy one versus another? Thanks!

Bister comes from Holland and its colors are quite muted. Brusho comes from England and has very vibrant colors. Both have been around for quite a while. I have both because i like the two types of color for different effects. Color burst is a newish american product - I don't have it but as far as I know it is very similar to brusho.

The main difference between Color Burst and Brusho is that the Color Burst is a finer powder. Otherwise, they have the same capabilities. Brusho is available in 32 colors compared to Color Burst's 12 (6 presently, with 6 more coming this summer). Per container, with Brusho you get about double the amount of product for half the price.
Bisters are a heavier grain yet, almost flaky - they are a natural, charcoal-based product and the tones of the colors are much deeper and more earthy than the other dye-based products.
Just noticing that Blick's prices on Brusho have more than doubled since I bought mine! Whaaaa...??
WOW! I purchased the 24 set just a few months ago, you're right less than half dickblick's price. Just for the heck of it I checked eBay, not a one listed. For those interested to purchase before this Amazon store raises the price, here's the link. Brusho 24 Set
