Use your Big Shot to emboss the image of the mini envelopes:

My guess would be that the silicone rubber mat and impressions pad were used here. I'm going to give it a try and see if it works.

No they are not the same thing. However they do share the same function.
The Magnetic Spacer Mat is thicker than the Magnetic Placement Mat.
The Magnetic Spacer Mat is what comes with the new Raspberry colored Wizard machine.
I believe you can still purchase the Magnetic Placement Mat separately but I'm not 100% sure...

Sandwich recipe for plastic templates in Bug or Big Shot
So... here it is... some dear soul will have to translate it to the Big Shot recipe. :rolleyes: I just basically modified the brass template formula
For my Cuttlebug:
To squish a plastic mini envelope template (which you have to cut to do this and man, I rejoice in NEVER having to trace again so I cut like fiend for this!) (I store them all in a plastic Rubber Stamp box SU style- works marvelously).
From bottom to top:
- The "A" Plate (thick and somewhat squishy)
- A Shim (or two) of thin cardboard (work with it to figure out what works with the cardstock you are trying to emboss. Too many shims cuts the scored lines on the envelope)
- Rubber gasket (I'm using the spellbinders rubber thingy- it's softer than the plumbers gasket I have)
- Cardstock to emboss
- mini-envelope template (or any plastic template you have I would guess)
- 2 B plates
Roll on through!
Then for the bonus scallop the edge of the lip of the envelope with your straight edge scallop punch (SU, Fiskars, etc). ooooooh, or I bet you could send it though with a large Nestibilities Scallop Square positioned on the lip for an even smaller scallop. Too bad I have to go to sleep to get up to work or I'd be on it trying it out... Someone else should though!

So you would substitute the Metal Stencil with the Envelope Template then probably need to add some shim.
When I use my nestabilities in my big shot, using the sandwich: Multipurpose platform Tab 2, Cutting pad, nestie (blade up), cardstock, cutting pad, I end up getting a hint of an emboss around the edges. I'm trying to cut SU! chipboard with my top note die and having trouble. Either, the regular sandwich is so thick it won't even budge thru the machine or it's not thick enough to cut all the way thru the chipboard. Can someone tell me what sandwich works for this?

Are you flipping your mats after each use?
Are you positioning the die in a different spot on the mat each time?
Are you storing the Mats underneath something to weigh them down?

Is that too thick for you to roll through your machine?
Are you positioning the die in a different spot on the mat each time?

Alicia, thanks for the help! I flip them a lot so that each side gets used, and I use the die in all sorts of different positions, but I haven't tried storing them under something heavy. I'll give that a shot. Thanks so much!

Yes. It's so thick, I can't seem to get it to budge thru the machine at all. So I eliminated the bottom plate and instead used another piece of the chipboard on the bottom and then it wouldn't cut all the way thru the chipboard.

Sound like you need more shim to increase the pressure then.
Another thing to try would be to flip the sandwich so the die is blade down.
Trying using 2 pieces of chipboard as shim. I havent cut chipboard with my top note die yet so I can't give you more help :(
Also which SU chipboard are you trying to cut the board book or the longboard that was specifically designed to be used in the Big Shot?

I have been using my Big Shot for weeks and have been totally loving it.
Monday night I am having a workshop where we'll be doing cards all using the Big Shot. Well, maybe not:(
I was just trying to use my "Join In The Cheer" decorative strip die for the first time. I followed the sandwich recipe exactly as shown in the instructions (all items brand new): extended spacer platform on the bottom, then a decorative strip cutting pad, then the strip die, then the paper- it was SU card stock, then the other cutting pad on top. I went to put it through and it seemed very snug. I got a little scared but remembered hearing that some sandwiches are really tight and not to worry. Well, I made it almost half way through but it was seriously getting so hard to turn the handle that I chickened out PLUS I don't think I could have done it. It was too hard! I went backwards because I felt like it was stuck. Well, when I got it out I freaked! It not only cut real deep, but everything was a mess! The spacer platform had a decal on it (it says "do not remove") and that is all scrunched up and all messy and sticky on it. You can see and feel the glue from it on the metal roller if you peer under the handle part of the machine, where is says "Big Shot". I just can't believe this. The cutting pad is so deeply cut. You should see it. I kept looking at the directions and I am sure I did everything right, so what the heck happened? And WHAT do I do NOW???
Oh, gosh- I hope someone who knows something about the Big Shot and what I should do is "on" now! I will never sleep tonight. I am so freaked out!
Plus, I promised my club 3 projects Monday night using the Big Shot. At the very least I'm afraid I'll have to make all new projects tomorrow.
I think I am gonna throw up.

Is there any chance there was something else in your sandwich, accidentally? When I first got my BS, I accidently had a scrap of cardstock stuck to the bottom of one of the cutting pads. The sandwich acted just like you described.

I just re-checked and no. There's not a paper or a shim or anything. I have been going over and over this. I just don't get it.
I hope by going backwards I didn't do more harm, but I don't think I had any choice. Even so, everything was getting so chewed up.
I am sure they'll help me at SU on Monday, but I figured you ladies likely have a lot more "real" experience with them than anyone I might get at demo support.
I just don;t know what to do about my workshop either. I really don't have the energy to come up with 3 new projects. But I guess I may have no choice.

Like you, I kept going for a bit, remembering people saying it's supposed to be snug. Then I realized the sizzlet was not going through. I backed it out and somehow the sticker on the top of the multipurpose thingy was ripping off. I had to cut it off where it was destroyed and now it's all sticky. I didn't think to see if it messed up the actual machine. But we used it a lot after the incident so I think my machine is ok? It's the multipurpose thingy that's a mess.
I actually thought of calling SU to see if they would have any pity on me and send a new multipurpose platform. I know it's a stretch but you never know. I once sent back a whole set of 48 markers that was accidentally sent to me and I always hoped that would come back to me in a good way.
I really hope you get it all figured out. Take some NyQuil tonight.
I think you should just leave it for tonite. It will all seem clearer in the morning! And if you're like me, you'll have an "Ah HA" moment in the middle of the night, and know *exactly* what to do when you wake up. :-) {{Hugs}} Try not to stress too much! Do you have an upline/sideline close as a backup plan? Maybe you could borrow BS stuff if you have to.
Maybe use Goo Gone or something similar to get the sticky off and try again? Is it really humid where you are? I've only had a BS since August, but I've had my Cuttlebug since it first came out. Sometimes they are persnickety things.
I have the Ellison Big Shot and that has happened to me. I was using one clear plate and the black plate and I couldn't turn the handle at all. I freaked and someone with me tried it with the two clear plates and it worked like a charm. Good Luck!

SU! has been really good as far as returning things. I am not really concerned about that. I have been a big Sizzix user for the last several years; my DD actually used to work for the company and it's just a couple miles from my house. I wish I could just go over there Monday and get some help or a new one, lol!! Oh, if it were only that simple!

I don't have a "back up", but thankfully there is the amazing gallery here from which I just may have to do some super quick CASEing of projects tomorrow for my workshop, lol!
Can you post some pictures of the machine and the stack you used? I'd love to help trouble shoot if I can.

The stack I used is EXACTLY as shown in the little instructions that came with the machine: the only thing I wonder is if I should have placed the decal side up and not down as I did. That's why the decal is all mess up and stuck to the roller. It does not specify if there is a preferred side up.
Still, I can't see that that could make the sandwich be that tight. I physically could not get it all the way through.
I just talked to my DD and she said it's worth a shot calling Ellison on Monday morning. You never know what they might be able to do to help. I will certainly call SU! as well. I am hoping the machine is okay and maybe I just need the spacer and cutting plates replaced. I don't want to be out for too long!
As I think about it, it makes sense that maybe somehow there is a defect. After all, if the thickness of these things has to be so precise (a piece of extra paper for instance can make a difference), then, maybe it's something within that sandwich I used. I have never had problems before and all of these pieces were brand new. I just opened them all for the first time tonight.

Perhaps you can try measuring the plates maybe yours are off a bit. The base white plate was 1/2 inch and the 2 clear cutting plates are 1/8 inch. Wish I could be more help.

You're right! It does say "this side up" on the spacer. However, it didn't mention that in the instructions, and I was really just following those. In the picture it shows the plain side is up. Still, you're right. It's clearly printed on the spacer.

I just measured my spacer platform. It's 1/16" thicker than yours. And it's a tad thicker on one end than the other.

I have the scalloped envelope die with the cuttlebug. I put A plate, B plate, envelope die, c/s, B plate, ran it thru my bug. And it cut great except it up one of the flaps almost right off. What should I do to prevent that happening??

You need the use the crease pad with any sizzix die that has a score line.
the crease pad is too wide to fit in the cuttlebug but you can cut it to fit if you have a heavy duty cutter.

Having the decal face down increases the chance that it would get ripped off the plate because of the pressure applied to it as its rolled through the machine.
Also there is a definate thickness in the Spacer that you get directly from Sizzix (this one says Big Kick on it) than the one that you get through Stampin Up.
I find this very interesting because you'd think the only thing they would change would be the decal to make it "theirs"
I also find it interesting that in the directions it doesn't say that the decal side must be face up. I guess they are counting on everyone to just "know" it by looking at the printed side sheesh.
I pulled out my SU BigShot and did some testing and these are my results:
*when running the Join the Cheer die with the Sizzix Spacer Platform the sandwich is a tight fight but it will go through my machine
*when running the Join the Cheer die with the SU Spacer Platform the sandwich is even more snug but still works.
* I also noticed that when I used DSP or Vellum the sandwich wasnt as tight as when I used Cardstock
My decals were always face up when I ran them through.
I hope this information helps you and I'm sorry that you are having so much trouble!

However, in my defense, I had the platform on my counter and was reading the instructions, so it didn't occur to me to really look at it. It was brand new and I just unwrapped it. I just didn't give any thought to it other than the order in which to put the items in the "sandwich". But, I guess I should have been more thorough in looking things over.
Also, I first tried it and it wouldn't go through right from the beginning, but I just rolled it by turning it as hard as I could. By the time it got to about the center I was not strong enough. No way could I get it to continue. And after measuring and seeing that one end is even thicker than the other, I can help but think it may be defective. So, we'll see what SU! says tomorrow.

Hi Alicia! Great name! I pronounce mine Ah Lee C Ah ok back on topic
Yep that's correct there is no SU mark on the one that came from SU. The lettering is all in black
the one from sizzix has red lettering but says the same thing tis just a hair less thick than the SU version. 1/16th of an inch.
The only thing clearly marked with the SU logo are the BigShot machine itself and all the exclusive dies.
The Su logo isn't present on any of the accessories that go with the Big Shot.
