Default Stampin Pastels

Here is probably a dumb question but I am a new demo and got the Stamping Pastels in my starter kit and (here is the dumb part) what in the world do you do with them?????? The book says absolutely NOTHING that is helpful about them and I don't want to just hang onto them and not use them. On the other hand, I don't want to use them wrong just to find out later that I was doing the wrong thing with them..

Please help!

Ok.. I looked it up in the Stampin' Technique book and still don't get the purpose of them.. Sorry, I don't want to seem unintelligent but if someone would have told me in HS that I was going to need to know this much art, I might have taken the class..

My favorite technique using the chalks is Poppin Pastels. Stamp your image in versamark, then I use a cotton ball and "pounce" color onto the image. Don't rub, it just makes a mess. I also use it to add a soft color to the edge of a layer on a card. Check out this thread with many ideas.

You can also use them the same way you use Pearl Ex powders with acetate. Stamp an image on a piece of acetate, then run it through a Xyron machine, image side up. "Paint" your image on the back (sticky) side using your pastels and a blender pen or other applicator. Mount the finished image on a piece of CS (light or dark, depending on the look you're going for) and adhere it to your card front.

Thanks so much for the link to the Playful Pastels and Chalks. I think once I venture out to use them that I will fall in love with them..

Thanks again..

I just love the poppin pastels technique for those days when I DON'T want to color in anything..... not very often that happens but is handy for a quick card!!

You can also use the pastels to color in an outline image that has been stamped (in any color). Use the included applicators to pick up color from the pastel, then simply start to color the image in, add more pastel to the applicator as needed. Q-tips are also a tool that can be used for this technique.

Default I know exactly what you mean...

I had seen them used at a stamp camp but when I got them home I was clueless. Here are the easiest:

1 - dip your blender pens (a great buy if you don't have them) into the color that you want and use it like a paint brush. Make sure you get enough color or you will end up spreading the ink of the stamped image.

2 - use q-tips or cotton balls (dry) to pick up the color and then dab it onto your paper. You can combine this with using the blender pens.

3 - use clear embossing powder and the versamark pad to create a raised image on your card. Then use a cotton ball to pick up one of your pastel colors and rub over and around your image. The chalk wont stick to the raised area, but will instead color the area around it.

Default mistakes?

and the nicest part is that little white eraser with the stampin up logo on it...chalk is VERY forgiving because that little eraser can easily remove any stray marks you didn't want.
