All you expert shaker card makers, how do you cut out the frame and make it centered? Is there a fast way to do this if you want to make lots of shaker cards at a time? Or is this one of those projects that just takes a lot of time to create?
A super fast way to do them is with the square punch. Or the circle punch and the coluzzle. I used that thin craft foam for the inside with the circle punch becuase it cuts sooo easy with the coluzzle, but If I'm using the square punch, I just use the double sided foam tape. HTH,

I thought of the square punch, but I have trouble getting it centered in the square so that when I punch the whole is centered. I know I am probably doing it the most difficult way, but I can't figure out an easier way. Do you cut your square first and then cut out the inside part or do you use the punch and then cut the frame around the punch?
I have made square, rectangle and circle shakers - the easiest way is
Square - use a square punch and then cut the outside down to the size you want edge-wise
Rectangle - I punch 2 squares side by side (or a square and then move it down a tad and punch again - square and a half???) - this definately takes a little bit of skill to make sure the edges stay even
Circle - I use my CM cutting system but I know some people use coluzzle system

Yes... I usually cut the square and then using my cutter, cut around it evenly as wide as I want it. If you have to cut it last, turn your square punch upside down so that you can see where your square will go. Make sense? HTH,

Template - cut out of cardstock (I usually use white or vanilla)
Square of acetate/transparency and Square cardstock
The size depends on the size of your template – these need to be about ½? larger than the opening of the window in your template.
Stamps & Inks
Double Sided Foam Tape
O’So Sticky Double Sided Adhesive
Other items that are similar: Red Liner, Terrifically Tacky & Bead Bond
(This is a great opportunity to use up those scraps from other projects!)
Glass Glitter Micro Beads
You only need a small amount for your shakers – use LESS than you think!
Assembly:
Step 1. Cut shaker template from cardstock, cut out center. Score all fold lines. Cut a square from cardstock and a square from acetate plastic.
Step 2. Cover one side of template with desired stamp images and stamp one side of the square cardstock – you will see this through the window of your card.
Step 3. Place a strip of scrap double sided tape (O’So Sticky scrap or other) on the right hand tab close to the outside edge of tab. Place your stamped square over the window design facing the window and align. Fold over the tab so that the tape catches your square. Now it will be perfectly aligned when you are done!
Step 4. On theback side of the template place four pieces of double sided tape (O’So Sticky scraps or other) the width of each side around cut out window, overlap if you must but do not leave any gaps or your beads will spill out!
*** TIP *** To fight static cling inside your shaker, spray glass cleaner onto a paper towel and wipe it
over both sides of your acetate. Let dry completely before going to step 5.
Step 5. Place acetate piece on top of double sided tape. Rub down to adhere. (Don't worry if the square isn't completely covering the tape.)
Step 6. Place four lengths of foam mounting tape on top of acetate. Try to make sure pieces touch on all four edges to form a box arounding the window. Take the paper off of the foam tape now.
Step 7. CAREFULLY fill center with beads – use LESS than you think you need! There should be enough room for the beads to shake back and forth when it is put together but if you put too many, it will cover your image and you’ll be sad!
Step 8. Fold the right tab with the sqaure cardstock attached in and secure to the sticky foam. Add double sided tape to left tab, fold in and secure. Add tape to top and bottom tabs, fold in to secure.
I am going to try my CM Cutter for circles and ovals.
What I have been doing is to cut the square then punch the center with any old punch, then "eyeball" it and cut it carefully with scissors. It works for me and my stamping friends and is fairly easy.
I may have to add the Coluzzle to my wishlist, but I don't want anything I can't pronounce!
