The simplicity of it was the key! Cheap, effective, and replacable if needed. I used the reverse of 1/4 round moulding for the ledges and glued it on with contact cement. No brainer. My husband created the legs for the back, so they are made to withstand a hurricane, but they are useful. It's kind of ackward to carry so I made a carrier of two pieces of cotton twine (one to wrap towards the front and one to the back) with a cylinder handle (toilet paper roll wrapped in duct tape!!! pathetic eh?) and it works fine for lugging up stairs or across lawns.
As for soap business names, maybe "Bee My Honey Soap Co" or "Honey Bubbles Soap Co"??? I'm lousy at names too!
Yeah I like the Daisy name too. Maybe "Daisy Dream Soaps" That's cute and upbeat. Having some kind of name is good for any show you do. People read the crafter list during the event and afterwards. Something different usually catches the eye and makes it memorable.
I know I changed my show name from Lasting Creations by Vicki to Daisy's Dilly Creations and it got alot of giggles and comments ( all good) and I had thought of Daisy's Soap or something like that but wasn't sure if it would go well. No I don't really need a name but it does help me stand out at the shows. I'm sure I'll think of something-shoot maybe I should run a contest or something and offer up a free bar to whomever helps me pick a good name.
On the other side of this. I have found that adding vanille fragrance to non-vanilla stable soap is a no no unless I'll be going for a light greyish/strange coloring. And this is a bummer as that my favorite scent! But thats why it's important to get the bugs worked out now and not face a lawsuit!!!!
ha! Who knew? Isn't that interesting. Most people like vanilla. But if you don't, you hate it. My husband has banished all vanilla candles from our house! Jasmine might work instead? The name contest is a fun idea. Who knows what you could get as ideas from that. I am sure you will find something that makes you happy. Take care and good luck.
. I know this is primary a papercrafting site but we all do assorted other crafts so hoping someone will give me a feedback. I'm making soaps for this up coming seasons shows. Some will be just your average bases, nothing added except some coloring and scents, they will range in size from about 1 3/4 oz--4 ozs. Others will be a bit more detailed such as decorative detailing (which isn't the easiest to pull off but is awesome when it comes out right!), others still will be my own recipe ( for which I'm testing now and having great results) All will be sizes listed above. Most of these are going into paper boxes I am now making. My question to all of you---What would you be willing to pay for handmade soaps? I know what it's costing (chock but hoping it pays off) but I know I could never really get 100% profit, at least not until I'm completely set up and running. Any and all help will be appericated.
I know I am a handmade soap lover too... and I pay about $3.oo a bar (a big square not sure of oz.) or 4 for 10.00. The bars I have bought at craft fairs have an exfolient or grainy stuff in them... I like it... kinda sandy like but great scents.

Branding your product
With names it is a good idea to keep it short and simple, generally no more than 2 words.
Unless you are only going to sell soaps now and in the future, in my opinion you shouldn't put soaps in the branding name, it is too limiting. Even you intend to make and sell only soaps now, you may want to expand sometime in the future whether it be into body lotions or whatever. That's why sometime as ambiguous as "Daisy Dreams" is good esp if your name is Daisy. Then you could have "soaps by Daisy Dreams" or cards or just plain crafts.

actually my real name is Vicki ( or Victoria if you were my granny when she was mad lol). but I seriously think theres a good name there! My craft name is Daisy's Dilly Creations but don't think thats good for the soaps.
I appericate all this great feedback. Another question here-how do those of you who make soap ( or buy from crafters) display these wonderful creations? I saw an inexpensive 3 tier cupcake display at WalMart. I think it's cardboard so it could be doozied up. I have a tall spinning rack that I'm going to display the most in but I would like to entice ( if thats a proper term!) my buyers in as some never look at the racks but just at the tables

Daisy can still work for you as a name.
Now as to display of soaps, I went and Googled 'soap craft show' and then clicked on to "images" on the top left of the google page and came up with lots & lots of photos of people displaying their soaps at markets. You could also try 'soap craft market display' or any other combination of words that you think are suitable. Good luck!
I have thought of a couple more names for your consideration. I haven't checked if any have prior copyright or registration. (Just google to find out when you do have a short list!)
'Naturally yours'
'Daisy naturally'
'All Natural... naturally'

I wanted to share the cute little tooth fairy tins that I made. I used the stamp from SU and the tins are ones you find in the wedding section (got mine for 50% off), there are 30 to a container. This was very quick and easy to make. Oh, I did cut a circle piece batting for the inside for the tooth to sit on. I think they would sell really well on a craft show!

Mary you said you got the containers from the wedding section. What wedding section are you talking about?
I have a craft show coming up in June the estimated crowds for the 3 day event are 80,00-100,000 people. I have never had a craft booth when this many people are roaming around. I have no idea how many of each item to prepare. Does anyone have any idea's for number of products to have ready for the weekend?
Mary~ your tooth fairy containers turned out darling.... I know they will sell! those little containers from Michaels or Hobby Lobby are great for lots of different treats! Expecially if you use your 50% off coupon!

Been awile since I posted anything! I've finally picked a name for my soaps. It was a killer decission but I just couldn't get away from the dandelion thing so I'm naming the soaps Daisy's Dandelion Dreams. I've been busy making a big mess but learning alot. I think my favorite one right now is the Chocolate Dream Bar! Good enough to eat. Thanks for all the name suggestions as well as the links on how to display these .

Craftymom, these are just GREAT!!! I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing what you'll sell these for?

Oh, I'm not selling them, just made so for something to do! I showed them to my daughter and she said that she would pay up to $5.00 for one, I thought that was high and she said no it wasn't. The tin cost me 30 cents and the ribbon was some that I got at Jo-Ann's (probably on sale) the little piece of batting would cost next to nothing, so total cost I would guess-a-mate at around 50 cents???? Someone else on this thread sold some at a show she did, maybe she will share her price with all of you. Sorry I couldn't really help you. I've made some more, one was green and one was purple.

I have just posted tooth fairy tins on my blog. I have been working on them for the past week and plan on selling them at a charity fund raising fair on 13March for 3 to 4 euro. Maybe more, I will decide on the day and let you know how I get on.
Do you have to be licensed to sell the popcorn and stuff that you repackage (like the caramel corn and such? I was told I have to get registered and licensed by the PA Dept. Of Ag. and it will require an inspection...too much work for the little I do!)
Thanks!
Kristin
It varies from state to state, but here in ny you can sell like popcorn in the original package. when you say take something out of a sealed bag like candy corn, you have to have a permit. I dont, as most people assume it is a gag gift, not really for eating
Hello! Just wanted to share an idea I am doing and seem to be getting great buzz!
I am hosting a house craft party with a variety of vendors. They will be set up in each kids' room, dining room and a few in the living room and the screened-in "florida room" patio.
If you have a larger open floor plan and can move out the furniture, I saw someone have like 17 vendors. I have the space for about 6-8 comfortably.
There are not a lot of spring craft fairs around here so I thought why not do one myself.
I am going to try to attach the logo here that we used for the FB event. I did another with my address and details that we could email out or print.
Just wanted to share! I got a lot of great ideas a couple of years back when I was hardcore doing craft fairs during the Christmas holidays. A new [very needy] baby set me back a year but I am finally getting back on the horse!
AmYD
I just want to mention you might want to check your homeowner's insurance policy before you invite vendors and customers into your home. Sometimes your homeowner's insurance will not cover if someone trips and falls in your home and they are there for profit and not as a guest. Just an FYI.

Actually I think most people will eat it or give it to their child to eat or someone else. I think if they pay for it, it's food, they're going to eat it. I live in NY too and it doesn't matter if you making it as a gag gift if it is repackaged food you have to have a permit and all the necessary insurance. I'd hate to get sued or fined but that's just me.
A few years ago I signed up for a craft show (no fee involved) but I chickened out. But a few days ago I finally got the courage to sign up for another at a cost of $25. It's in two weeks so I hope I don't let my nerves get to me and cancel. ;) Anyway, I'm wondering if I should buy some large brown paper lunch bags to put items in if I get any buyers. If you've used bags, what type do you use?
I guess it all depends on what size things you have to sell. I had my daughter stamp on some brown lunch bags to jazz them up a bit...I know there are 2 size lunch bags out there now. I also went on craigslist and found a lady selling 300 christmas gift bags like 6x8 for $20.00...snapped those right up..also same place got 1000 grocery bags (new-plastic) 1000 for $5.00...I would check cragislist..business section. I also stock up after christmas at christmas tree shops.. you may want some nice gift bags for larger ticket items...I know you can get a pack with the handles at joanns for like $3.00 for 10 with a coupon..good luck..dont chicken out..some of my best repeat customers I have met at craft shows..customers and fellow showers. you never know who you may meet there.

Don't chicken out! You will have fun, even if you don't sell everything.
I did a whole bunch of craft shows a while back and enjoyed it immensely. Yes, it was a lot of work. And no, I didn't make a lot of money. But I really enjoyed the experience and met a lot of really nice people.
About the bags, at the shows I attended, some of them pretty upscale for craft shows, lots of the vendors just used Walmart/plastic grocery sacks. Everyone is into recycling these days and no one thought anything of it. You can even say something to that effect when you bag things up.
You can look in my gallery if you like, and see pics of my set-up.
For smaller items I purchase the dressed up see through loot bags from the dollar store. I try to match up the bags to the season of the sale (I.e. easter decorated bags for spring etc.)

Hey Elaine, don't chicken out. I always feel nervous but always and I mean always have fun. You meet lovely people and the day just flies by. I use lunch bags. Great ideas above on how to jazz them up.
I look forward to hearing how you get on and seeing your photos. Expect just to have fun and sales are bonus.
