(This is my post a few minutes ago in the Alpha thread. I’m reposting here as well.)
I didn’t know if anyone knew this, but you know those thin balsa wood tags sometimes we find at Hobby Lobby or Joann Fabric in the craft section? I wanted to put Winter Woodlands at the top of the inside of my latest journal (I have SO many half-done journals floating around now...) but the tags were too light-colored and I didn’t want the holes. Wire cutters pinch off the tag part real easy. And I experimented and found a sanding block or a bit of sanding paper takes of the clear shine, and then my Distress Vintage Photo ink pounced on the square makes it look like old wood. You can see the difference in the photo. PS. Glue the letters to a strip of paper and then glue the paper to the project. Much easier.

Thanks Kandie. I was thinking they were wooden tiles you used but now I think you made them out of paper...wow..so cool.
Thank you for all of the tips. I appreciate every one and am learning lots. Your card is absolutely beautiful.....I have just been showing DH how creative you all are. He says some of you have beautiful handwriting.

Jayne, the tiles are wood, they are balsa wood which is a real lightweight wood. I glued the tiles to a strip of paper first to make sure they were straight and then glued the strip to my project. Otherwise they would have all been crooked, lol.

Welcome to the MMJ's.....If you like messy, texture, mixed media and fun, then you are in the right place. Our challenges aren't intended to take away from what's on this wonderful site, but to give you further inspiration and maybe for those times when you are craving more MM and need a fix.
These challenges started with 2 of us who needed such inspiration during a time when we had lost our mojo. Now there's a little band of us who are playing each month and sharing our different take on some cool MM techniques.
HOW DOES IT WORK.....someone finds 1 or 2 MM videos, shares them and we take inspiration from them for our project. Currently there's 3 of us who have been finding videos, but anyone who wishes to share something, post on this thread and so we can keep a note of who is doing the monthly challenge. The more the merrier.
WHEN IS THE CHALLENGE?.....this is currently a monthly challenge and to allow everyone to still play in all the other SCS challenges.
WHAT DO WE MAKE?.....Whatever you wish. A card, journal/scrapbook page, tag, ATC....whatever you want.
WHEN DO WE POST OUR PROJECT?.....we have been posting on the 15th of each month, however now we have this thread, post whenever you wish. Just make sure you post your project link back here so we can all see it and leave you some love.
The important thing is to have FUN!

Nancy how did you fix the cards inside the outer card? I’ve got my front and back stuck together but I’m not sure how to stick them inside, I have made a spine joining the two together
I watched part of the new video from Kandie, about using greeting cards for cardstock, but the video kept going in and out of focus and I started feeling sick. But I get the gist. Very fun. Good use of 'cardstock.'
BTW, the name of my February 1 challenge is called 'everything and the kitchen sink.' Think 'RECYCLING'. Recycling is my word for January. I will have a video, might need some help adding the video.

Ladies, I just posted a fun video on making scrap paper ruffle rolls to use up those strips of paper. This is not a challenge, but just something to watch if you have the time and want to do a project. Check it out on the Challenge thread.

I saved and watched this one. I do love anything that gives a shabby chic look.
I have not had much time at all for crafting. My hubby had a fall and has had extreme nerve pain from his cervical spine affecting one arm right down to the fingers. He has been for all kinds of scans to locate the damage - had severe reaction to muscle relaxant meds and just been through hell literally. Both of us sleep deprived. Long story short he has finally got relief and his BP has backed off so I made a card yesterday from a quick oxide ink BG I had lying around. Felt so good to create.
I am still deciding on my February Challenge and some of the ideas I had planned get used before I can snag them lol but I will keep fishing to find something new and fun. Will make a decision soon.

Today is the first day I have felt like creating anything in weeks.
