I'm trying to decide on whether to purchase the new In Color stamp pads and cardstock. I really love the cards I've seen made with them, but do I really want to spend money on them?? I have all the other colors so I certainly don't NEED any more cardstock. I thought about buying the assortment pack of cardstock, but I'd still want all the stamp pads to go with them. And there are just so many other things I want to buy. And there's the "B" word - budget . . . Any words of wisdom?

I bought the multi pack of cardstock and the reinkers and just made my own spots with dry spot pads....it was easier and then I didnt have a ton invested if I didn't like them! HTH!
I love them, and will be purchasing more before they go away, the colors are different then the ones that we have now. One way to be economical about it is to purchase stamp spots from online (find someone to go in an order with you as shipping is expensive), then just buy the reinkers and ink up the stamp spots. Then you have the pads, reinkers and paper. I adore the new color papers, especially cranberry with that delicious cranberry stitched ribbon, marigold, true thyme with it's delicious ribbon, and of course cool caribbean! I have used vintage violet and buckaroo blue but not as much as cranberry and marigold.

I agree it is a dilema. This past summer, I bought all the new In Color ink pads and all the cardstock.
I then did some research and found out that those In Color colors will not be available on a long term basis after this year's catty.
Why would anyone want those 6 ink pads when you can't purchase the cardstock later on?
I exchanged all my In Color materials.
It just doesn't go with S.U.'s policy of co-ordinating colors.

I ordered the paper so that I had more selection for scrapbooking (hoping to match more of the gorgeous patterned paper that seems to follow me home) and then the re-inkers. I figured I could make my own stamp pads, or use it for painting. I really don't want the full size pads.

I beg to differ that this doesn't go with SU!'s policy of coordinating colors. Who's to say that a product that ANY company offers will be around for more than 1 year? When you buy paper at Michael's there's no guarantee that it will be there the next day, let alone the next YEAR, if you need more.
I LOVE that SU! is keeping up-to-date on the current color trends without discontinuing current colors which frustrates demos. The new colors are AWESOME. If you love the new colors, or even a few of them, I recommend buying the ink pad and reinker so you'll be set for quite a long time. The assorted cs package is definitely a good start. Have fun!
Thanks so much for your input, ladies! I think I'm leaning more to not buying them since the colors apparently won't be carried long-term. And I do love most of the "regular" colors. This way I have more money for other accessories and, of course, more stamps!

What a great idea! Where do you buy your dry spots?
Although I'm mostly as SU customer I have bought spectrum pads, chalk inks etc that do not *match* cardstock exactly. I think there is a thread that coordinates the IN COLOR colors with the other SU colors.
Anyway, after the new catalog comes out next year you can always sell them. You may even get more than you paid for them because they are now retired.

I can not believe that if we like a color enough they wouldn't keep it on. I love the colors (well 4 of them- love would be too strong a word for Thyme!!).
I did get pads and paper, and since I've used quit a bit of Violet, Cranberry, Buckaroo and Caribbean I will get more before the end of the year. And the other point would be- you can always use the ink with white or vanilla CS and it would look fine.
Su! will have more new colors each year I think to reflect the trends in design colors. All the new inkpads, reinkers and paper will be over $75. You could always book a party and use hostess benefits to get them at discount. Maybe your demo will get you a pad or pack of paper for a hostess gift too?

here is what I did (if anyone cares!LOL) I had a workshop 2 weeks ago, and MIL always gives me money to support my party, and to buy something for myself that she can give me for Christmas...*she* bought me 4 of the new colors, CS, pad, and inker...I got the other two sets myself. By the time spring comes, I will see what colors I like, and purchase additional CS then...I *THINK* I have already found my Christmas Card Idea for next year, which requires Cool Caribbean, so I will get that and put it away...I guess I learned my lesson 2 years ago, when I was trading like fury for the retired colors...and reinkers..after the fact...I have serious issues with having "full sets"...If I knew there were ink pads out there that I didn't have, It would bug me...in an OCD kind of way...I have similar issues with crayons...my son has always been tortured by me about his crayon organization...I personally would get them...at least the re inkers and the baby dry pads...Just my .02!
I think this is a simple decision. If you like the colors, buy them. No they may not be around much longer, but its 6 more colors to work with now.I think 4 of them are lovely, 2 not so much, and I've had fun with them.
www.welburngourdfarm.com Is where I got mine. Shipping is kinda pricey and you have to order a minimum of like $13.00 or something like that. I ordered 8 spots...so if you can go in with someone that will help on the shipping cost! HTH!

Thought I posted another reply, but I don't see it. Forgive me if it's a duplicate.
Whew. I think I've changed my mind . . . again. I'm going to get the assortment pack of cardstock and the 4 colors of stamp pads that I really like. Both my demo and my DH gave me SU! gift certificates for my birthday, so it's not like I'm using my own money. There are just so many other things I want - but there's always next month, and the month after that, and . . .
This just shouldn't be so difficult - I need to get a life. Like family, church, work, quilting, cross stitiching . . . are not enough.

Another thing to think about is all the In Colors coordinate beautifully with the regular color line. I especially love Cool Caribbean with Tempting Turquoise or Taken with Teal. Another favorite is Cranberry Crisp with Bravo Burgandy or Pretty in Pink. So even if you do happen to run out of CS, they are still very usable. Personally I can never have too many colors to work with

If you get the pads and the reinkers, you can take white cardstock which we know will be around forever and make your own coordinating paper. Just ink it up. I plan on adding the vintage violet and the buckaroo blue to my ink stash, along with the 4 reinkers (already own cranberry and thyme pads).
I was on the fence about the new colors as well. However, my demo has made beautful cards using the new colors and SCS had a thread a while back for coordinating regular colors with the new colors. I jumped in and bought the colors that I liked - Cool C, Cranberry C, V Violet and B Blue...not a fan of the Thyme color. I didn't get that one. I don't feel as guilty since I didn't get ALL of the new colors ;)

I was not planning on buying any of the colors. But then, of course SU is using the new colors in its holiday papers!! And I like those. So, I got cranberry and thyme. I will probably get caribbean as well. I will stock up on the paper -- buy 3 or 4 packs and a few reinkers and really, that will last me a couple of years!!

I love almost all of the new colors. Cranberry and violet are my 2 favs. I am going to order several packs of CS and reinkers before the new catty comes out.

So tonight is stamp camp and I've decided to just go ahead and buy the assortment pack of cardstock and the 4 colors of ink that I love. Thanks to all you wonderful stampers/scrappers out there who responded!

Good decision, I knew I had to have them and I do not regret it. I still use some of the "retired" colors, I bought reinkers for the ones that I love. I like having more colors to choose from that add a bit more to my cards.

I bought them all when they came out. Split all but Cool Caribbean CS with a friend, and now am re-buying all the other colors of CS so that I have full packs. I will buy a lot of the paper around Spring, and will also buy another round of re-inkers, just in case. I was TRULY hoping that SU! would listen to it's customers and bring out Stampin' Write markers for the "In Colors", because making them with the blender pens doesn't REALLY work. It works fine at first, but over time the blender liquid just dilutes the re-inker color. So you have to keep re-inking it anyway. And I like to have the writing end, not just the marker end. Oh well! If they haven't made them by now, they aren't gonna.
As most posters said, it really is a personal preference. I purchased all the paper, pads and re-inkers because I loved all the color combos. I plan to get the cranberry and thyme ribbons at my next workshop so I can use them with the holiday thyme papers I also bought. I'll play with all the colors and see which ones I like best. Then I will stock up on whatever papers & ribbon I want because I'm sure the pads and re-inkers will hold me over. Jeanne S. made a good point that the colors really do coordinate well with other SU colors.
I LOVE cranberry crisp and cool carribean!!! Been using a ton of cranberry lately. Haven't played with the other colors as much, yet.
Ditto! I bought sets of both of these colors and I just add a pack of cranberry to my stamp club every month so that I'll have it stockpiled for when it retires. The cranberry is what I wish our burgandy looked like.

I took my dried up blender pens and reinked them completely with the ink refill so that I now have in color markers, I did cranberry crisp and cool caribbean, as those are the colors I use most. I have both ends avalible and they are still as juicy as the day I did them. The blender pens were just sitting around since they were dry when I bought them, so figured this was a good use for them!
