In your neck of the woods, what is *the* thing in stamping/paper crafting?
At my LSS, I noticed at their anniversary deluxe make N take extravaganza, everything was modge podged and distressed. I noticed it because there was a steady background noise of sanding at all times. LOL.
What is the hip, very NOW thing in your corner of the world?

(I am not nearly as informed as someone like Julie) but my two cents...
Encaustic wax seems to be literally heating up. Charms and more charms. Game pieces. Image transfers lifting images and putting them in your work). Using "Golden" mediums. Melting clear wax over the images. Lots of chipboard. Quishing and whishing alcohol inks around (like we haven't been doing that with reinkers a long time!)
Ok, I have a question... if you're using beads and wax and charms and game pieces and image transfers, etc, etc... can it still be called stamping? Does any just stamp anymore?
I'm still trying out the "old" techniques, because....
1. There are so many new ideas that I can't possibly keep up.
2. Non-stamping friends don't "get it" if I add too many layers and "stuff" to their card.
3. The LSS has to promote more "stuff" for more sales, but I don't "need" it all...... or do I? (LUV shopping)
I just plain stamp. I consider collage collage whether it is on a card or not. Stamping to me means make it with stamps except for ribbon, brads, and eyelets.
I was thinking this, too... I went to a 10-10-10 yesterday and I think four or five of the cards had only one stamp on them. everything else was designer papers and embellishments. Cute, and simple and fast, but can you really call it stamping?
In my corner of the world, mini scrapbooks are really catching on, from 6x6 on down to 3x3. Everybody's noticing the gift potential and how you can finish them entirely in one sitting.

I agree. I LOVE it when I make a pretty card that is JUST DONE WITH STAMPING! It's awesome.
To answer the question, I'd say that acrylic paints are hot, acrylic stamps (the clear ones), Souffle pens, stitching on cards and definitely chipboard which I just cannot get into for whatever reason.
There's that whole dogs and kitties thing going on - kitty ribbon, kitty stamps, kitty stickers, kitty paper, fish clips, and dog bones.
I have noticed companies like Wordsworth moving to clear stamps and lots of stickers. I'm not sure they are even making mounted stamps anymore. And they moved some of their most popular images from stamps to stickers.
I stamp now more than ever - I generally avoid the little prepackaged things you stick on cards (some are very cute), because I like to stamp. But I went with "just" stamped ATC's in an ATC contest at StampFest (big clue, I thought that they would want stamped items) and got my clock cleaned by very sophisticated, complex, layered, slide mounted, puzzle pieces, fuzzy, I-not-sure-what-that-is entries. But of course, the stamping purist saves a ton of postage and it doesn't get ripped up in the mail!
I would have to say chipboard, ribbon (particularly printed or patterned!) embellishments, doodling around stamped images, and distressing (whether with ink or sanded effects.)
Gee, 3 out of 4 of my stamp stores are gone! And, I never go to the other one because it is too far from my house, so I can only go by what I see online. I think patterned papers, die cut machines, chipboard seem to be in.
Personally, I am spending more time watercoloring.

I'm getting hooked on the 8x8 scrapbooks, personally. I like to arrange layouts on each page and then stamp and watercolor or add glitter to glam it up. Ribbon, eyelets, and brads here and there....but the main focus on the stamping.
I have used a couple of those pre-made 'Jolee's Boutique' things on my books....but only cause I don't have a good wedding stamp set. ;)
As far as stuff goes....personally....coloring. That's my big in stamping thing. So there ya go...what I like to stamp and the technique and tool I like most. ;)
At my LSS there's a lot of focus on 'distressing' (papers, inks, etc). Also, a lot of the classes that are offered there, only about half are stamping related. The rest are projects that have more to do with products that are stamping 'related' but not stamps themselves.
I have to agree that chipboard is quite the popular craze right now. As for what is going on at the LSS...I can only speak for the schedules at the local Archiver's as the nearest "real" Stamp store to me is almost an hour away so I don't get there often. They are doing lots of "altered" stuff...like a clock face, the thick wooden clipboards, of course the cool lunchtins. I come up with my own cheaper versions by taking the standard WalMart clipboard and painting it white and stamping it or buying up tins on clearance and painting them white (acrylic paints) and stampign them, etc. That's just me...I LOVE stamping and while I think all the ribbons are to die for and the decorative papers are beautiful, something deep inside me says, "Hey, I'm a STAMPER and I just want to stamp!" rather than covering everything with decorative paper.
Oh, that faux stitching is very popular, I have even seen some "faux stitch" rub ons and some stamps that mimic a line of "stitchery" but I'm doing more of the hole punching and white gel pen sort of faux stitching and good grief, I am not considering, not even for a nanosecond, whipping out the sewing machine and actually sewing on cards. ;-) Jan

Stamping on photos. Our LSS teaches classes on it. You take those blurred pictures and stamp on them and make an awesome card. I wish I could take the class.

I have to agree with the faux stitching. I have sold MUCHO white gel pens! Love those.
I love stamping, coloring, and cutting, but I also love embellishments! I do think that some go over the top, though. I think the embellishments should be secondary to the main image and compliment it in some way.
I love little charms, ribbons, and beads. They can make an ordinary card fabulous!

I agree Happy Heart. I've been somewhat frustrated with my stamp group of about 20. So many are doing papers, stickers, rub ons, etc. Not stamped to me. There are so many creative things to be done with stamping. If you do the other just call yourselves cardmakers.
For me and my little group of card-making/stamping buddies it's fauz stitching with gel pens and doodling. I reintroduced them to then wonders of polyshrink at our last class/camp, so now I'm expecting half the cards for our next exchange will have shrinky-dink charms!

I would have to say altering practical home decor items - frames, clocks, shelves, recipe card boxes, etc., also making canvases.
Same here. Plus paperbag books, tag books...I swear they can turn anything into a book or cute project. I'm waiting for the latest and greatest project to come out using toilet paper rolls. I'm sure we'll have a use for them soon!
Crystal-y stuff seems really popular right now, especially to me. I love the new Heidi Swapp frames made from small, already-adhered rhinestones. The frames come in ovals, squares, circles, etc. and I am crazy about them. I got some "bling for things" from Michaels for cheap and love using them, but the fact they're discontinued maybe says something about how popular they are . . . ? (Mostly they were just expensive at regular price!)
Ribbons and different accessories for them also seem super-popular now. (Different kinds of buckles, a swack of different clasps for them a la Basic Grey, etc)

Oh darn, my hubby just cleaned the bathroom and got rid of the empty toilet paper rolls!
In uk i think from a cardmaking point of view our QVC keeps trying to get us to blinking peel-offs - which okay, some can be nice but not all the time.
Since i have been on here which is only bout a week I have managed to purchase a few of the gorgeous stampin up sets (i am in heaven) and it has really brought my stamping mojo back so a big thank you has to go to everybody on here for their wonderful welcome and fantastic comments on the cards i have uploaded (have to apologise got so carried away making that I uploaded on a Sunday so so sorry).
But from a scrapbooking and cardmaking point of view in UK doodling is very in as is chipboard (and making our own etc) we love scrapbooking papers every shape and form and can't wait for things to be released so that they eventually trickle across the waters from USA. Stitching again/iris folding/pergamano (not my cup of tea i have to say) I LOVE STAMPING
Oh forgot to say I love to use both stamps and papers and embellishments on my cards, I send to follow the flow and have fallen in love with some of the techniques on here it is just finding the time to try them all!!!
