To me, it looks like (the Christmas tree one) has borders of about 1/4” on the sides and less than that on the top and bottom. Maybe it’s the angle of the picture.

Years ago, I was taught to put the raw edges in first. (1) It prevents paper cuts and (2) it's easier for the recipient to grab.
