A lady in my town just posted this, and I thought it would be fun to share here : ) Per Janet Ellison:I have a lifelong friend turning 100 on December 9 who lives in Johnson's Nursing in Carol Stream at Windsor. No family is coming to see her (all out of state), as visitors are not allowed. They would have to stand outside in the cold and talk through a window, and they're not young themselves. She is with-it, lovely, kind, caring, bright, but having some down days. She was in assisted living till earlier this year but is blind and so needs extra care.
The only thing we could think to do for her is shower her with cards that the staff will read to her. In talking with her about mail, she told me it's really neat that someone would send her a card! To turn 100 and have zero celebration seems so sad, and she's feeling lonely. She loves people and communication, and most folks there are not up to her brain ability, so she understandably can become a little lonely. If sending a simple note or a card is something you feel you would want to do to wish her happy 100th, her address is: Edith Jones Johnson Health Care Center 110 Windsor Park Dr. Room 126 Carol Stream, Il. 60188
Thank you so much if you feel you can do this. I know it would make her heart so very happy.
Going in the mail this afternoon so they have time to quarantine the card before handling. Thanks for sharing this!

It may not arrive in time, but ready to go in the mail tomorrow. I still had a few international Christmas postage stamps left ;-), that's a good way to use one of them.
I think its a wonderful idea. I have an Aunt Sophie that is 102. We have a party for her each year and this past year it has to be very limited in the nursing home. It is so hard on those in nursing homes that can't have visitors. I would be glad to make her one.
Just saw this today. I will definitely get a card in the mail.

Shelly, if you can, please let us know how her day (and coming week) goes.

I was locked out of signing in - AGAIN - and wasn't able to post, but I sent a card a couple of days ago. (For some reason, I cannot sign into my Chromebook I can only sign into my desk computer... UGH.... so frustrating)
