I haven't actually embossed "on" fabric, but I have embossed on copy paper and used it like an iron-on transfer onto fabric. Only drawback is you cant do words.

I'm not sure about the mini crock pot, but I have successfully used one of those mini eletric skillets to melt UTEE. I even use it to shrink shrink plastic.
