It's quite possible that with this die the company intended that the acetate be left on, especially if each die had it. It would help the die keep it's shape.

I rub my dies over with an unused dryer sheet. You don't need to do it every time and I find it works really well. I found wax paper fiddly and another thing to pull out of all the bits.
