I love the pottery barn idea for work space. That's on my wish list for next year's bday. Right now I just have the 3 6' tables to work on that also hold my cricut, scanner, printer, computer, and idea books.
For storage, I created my wall to wall closet into storage of different sizes. I used Container store products (Elfa system) for my drawers similar to California Closets. Expensive but very organized and looks nice. I needed lots of space as I have about 500 stamps/stamp sets and too many accessories and scrapbooking supplies galore plus handmade jewelry supplies and oil painting supplies.
The best scrap book shelves look cool. I am just a bit **** and would have to have it in the closet so the room doesn't look cluttered even though it is a creative room. Just me...
I currently have two expedit bookcases (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00071356) from IKEA and all kinds of different boxes, baskets, and other storage items from IKEA to go in those cube spaces. I love what everyone has shared, I hope they keep coming.
Some day when we retire I will have a room of my own that I can design. It has to have room for stamping, scrapbooking, and sewing/quilting. I have 2 sewing machines now, and will probably add a couple more eventually.

Would some kind of cup holder that attaches to the side of your table work to hole the heat gun? You know the kind with a hole in the bottom so it would hold the end of the gun in place snuggly?
This looks like freaking store.I am soooo very jealous. I am dreaming of one day having a huge craft room. One day in about 20 years when the kids are gone and I can affored it.LOL! Beautiful room!
Given I prefer non-permanent, non-craft-specific furniture pieces (& containers) that could be reconfigured in the space or repurposed elsewhere in our home, I utilize the following:
-Discontinued Pottery Barn (PB) Bryce Project Table as my primary work surface with two full-size drawers & one shelf to house my frequently-used items with bins underneath containing memorabilia
-A PB Studio Wall Shelf that houses paper organized in Cropper Hopper Paper Holders/Paper Pouches/Dividers, KI chipboard in ArtBin Solutions boxes, ribbon jars, etc.
-A PB Studio Wall Shelf to store photo boxes
-Now-discontinued PB Bedford 5-drawer flat file cabinet that houses all wood-mounted & clear stamps/sets, wheels, inks, clear blocks, ep, etc. sits between the two Shelves
-Clip-It-Up sits atop the flat file & organizes all flat embellishments
The large walk-in-closet holds gift wrap/bows/boxes, holiday decorations, & hidden gifts (shh!).
My next purchases for the room will be a comfy upholstered chair & a simple side table to fill the empty corner.
My dad is the man behind this company and makes these cabinets by hand. This all came about because my sister and I could not find any quality cabinets that were affordable. He made each of us a cabinet as a surprise and I have to say it is by far the best cabinet that I have used to store my supplies. I have had my supplies in many different storage units but since getting my cabinets i have not changed a thing. I love that i can remove the drawers and take them over to my work station. The other items he designed, made and now sells have all come from our need for more organization and storage.

My sister has the Original Workbox, she LOVES it and I drool over it everytime I see it! If we ever move, I would love to get one! I have the Ikea Expedit shelf now among other shelves, bins, sterilite drawers etc in my room, but ideally, I would love to have this as my "main" storage area and keep my Expedit for paper and album storage.
She owns a Scrapbook Boutique and became a distributor after seeing them at a Scrapbook Expo in our area and their customer service is GREAT too! Very nice people
I have been drooling over this Hurcraft Table ever since I saw it at the Scrapbook Expo in Utah last month. I am really thinking about getting it, as one that is similar in Pottery Barn is twice the price.
I've discovered that I like to be able to close the doors on my stuff so the room does not look cluttered. My first scrapbooking/stamping room had closets I worked inside (pics in my gallery). When I had that system, I loved it, but I always thought it would be nice to have shelves and other open storage so I can have matchy matchy boxes and bins on display and other stuff on display like so many people had in their rooms. I used to drool over people's expedit units and the pottery barn desk. When we moved to our 2nd house, I got Expidits and Billy bookcases and matching boxes and paper holders to put in them. I liked that everything was organized and labelled and easy to get to (never got around to taking pics). Then I moved it all into my bedroom to make a nursery. All of a sudden, having everything on display just looked like clutter to me and the baby could get into it all. Now I've claimed the guest room and got a Scrapbox workbox and a minibox (still being assembled). I am so much happier with my stuff being hidden behind closed doors again. I've got a making memories wall unit and a couple of small wall units for displaying a few things, but the room has the clean, clutter-free look I have to have. I wish I knew this before my Ikea shopping spree! I will upload pics when everything is set up.

I wish you lived close to SC. I'd love to buy those Expedit shelves from you! And the Billy bookcases too!

I bought a U shape desk at Costco a few years ago. I keep my um stamps in empty cd cases and keep all of them in wood crates. I label what is in the cd cases. Makes it easy to find what I need. I love my stamp room! I like my stamps on the desktop and easy to access!
I have been blessed with an awesome hubby that built me some storage for stamps.
Bookshelves ~ to see and grab at a glance, measure your boxes and such because "custom built" meets your needs so you can get the most use of your space.
Drawers are great and provide counter space too. We live in the boonies so I have have some problems with field mice. Little buggers ate a ton of Stickles then I have to clean up all these sparklie poops that were really stuck to the places and corners where they were "deposited"!!! SERIOUSLY!
Cork Board is GREAT too. I covered it in fabiric to match my room then used magnetic sheets covered in really thin plastic table cloth to match. That is the darker plain sections in the picture, not all spellbinderes can be pinned up like the nesties. There are more pics on my blog.
I found this at the local Stampfest in June and LOVE it! It's a reasonably affordable option. You can see a larger pic here. The Company is at Custom Wood By Dallas Home Page.
Hope this helps!
I know this is an old thread, but as I was checking out storage ideas, I came across this. I bought these at a craft show last fall. I love them and can't wait until this year's show to get a couple more. I also love the fact that they are "made in America, by an American". They are great people and will work with you to customize your needs.

I believe she was referring to Custom Wood By Dallas Home Page. I bought some of these last year and this was what they told me as to why and how he started making these cabinets.

FYI - I just received a postcard from Dallas & Kay. They will be at in Orlando in June. They are taking orders now and will be able to deliver on their way to/from the show. Check them out. I love them. Custom Wood By Dallas Home Page

Just my two cents... a certain storage method may work for others but maybe not for you. Only you alone can really tell which type of storage will work best for your crafty needs. It all depends on the stuff you have, your type of craft, the size and layout of your room, etc. Planning is definitely a key, and lots of patience in finding the right storage. Good luck

The company she is referring to is custon wood by dallas. I have one of their cabinets and love it. I store individual stamps by catagory on the shelves. The shelves pull out easily. Check out their web site. custonwoodbydallas.com

I was sneaking a peak at SCS while at work & came across this thread - and I am now sitting here trying not to giggle out loud so my coworkers don't think I'm nuts!!! Oh my!!! Too funny - sparklie poops!!!!

My new room is all set up, and I'm pretty happy with it. There's still some "clutter", but I bought so many baskets and things for displaying my stuff when I thought that's what I wanted, and I can't let them all go to waste.
I finally HAD to get the Hurcraft Table I have been drooling over. I sent pictures to the company and they put me on their blog. Here's the link: HurCraft
I just love the organized space -- I am making scrapbook pages more quickly because everything is organized and at my fingers!

I'll keep my 18 Jetmax cubes. They hold everything from paper to stamps to embellies to cricut/big shot supplies to punches within reach but out of sight. They have been reconfigured many times over the years. If $$ were no object, I'd pay someone to paint them black. Love them!!

I love Jetmax cubes too. I have 4 so far - every time they go on sale, I buy another one Hoping to eventually replace my Sterilite units with Jetmax. Also love my 3 units from Organize More that are stacked on my desk. Planning on buying the New SU Style Punch Organizer Unit soon to replace the one where I have some of my punches now (too heavy, they're bending the rods), then I'll put my few wheels & non-SU punches there instead. Here's a pic of my little area - I have about a half of a wall in my laundry room to call my own : My Tiny Little Craft Area

After investing many hundreds of dollars on storage cubes and cabinets and such, I have come to realize that "pretty" isn't always practical. I have recently begun hanging much more affordable open shelving and bringing all of the hidden cube treasures back in to the light. My studio was cursed with the old "out of sight . . out of mind" syndrome. I especially enjoy the ease of access this approach offers. So . . . although it may not be beautiful or the envy of others, it's working great for me.

I got 6 of the racks like they have at scrapbook stores with the
hooks on them. I got the long hooks, will hold lots of items.
Also got shelf brackets and my dh cut shelving in half so it was not
so wide. I also got 2 foot long wire holders. My spools of ribbon
fit in them so I can just pull on the ribbon measure and cut right in
front of where I sit. I taped a ruler on each ribbon holder. I also
have two paper stackers, each has 25 slots.
I lucked out on cost, a friend of mine owns a scapbooking shop and
she bought out another shop that was closing. She then had a sell
for all the extra racks and shelving she did not need. Only spent
$200 and everything is organized on wall in front of me where I
can see it and not in drawers or tubs where I forget to use what I
have or buy duplicates.
I have a Collector's Cabinet with the base unit and smaller unit that serves to make a hutch. However, if money were no object, my dream storage and desk system would be this:
A room about 80 by 100 with countertop and cabinets all around the perimeter...with a bathroom, TV, Internet access, and sink and microwave......and a weekly maid to come in and clean it up.

I'm OCD with SPS and I hate clutter...so...All white cabinets and counters...everything in white and black containers.....wood floor....lots of light....did I mention white?
I just did the same thing! I purchased the Jetmax cubes at Michaels and reorganized The Diva Den. I don't have a wood floor though. I'll be bringing in accents in the room in black, white, hot pink and bright green. I like the nice clean look in this storage system.
I have had Scrap 'n Cube pieces since 2005. They are truly the most amazing storage pieces and will last through the generations! I got a new piece the other day called the Mini Apothecary Cabinet. You can see lots of photos and details here. I wouldn't own anything else. Here is the new piece I just got:
