I use to store my embossing folders that way too, but was running out of room in the photo box that they were being kept in. So I made a little tag using a Stampin up punch, put the name of the embossing folder on it, put double sided tape on one side of the tag and stuck it to the top of the embossing folder. Then I was able to line them up in the box in alphabetical order. This gave me more room so that I can add more to the collection. It also makes getting to them quicker and easier and I find myself putting them back when I'm finished with them so this helps to keep my craft area a little bit cleaner.
I put the name on the folder with a fine tip Sharpie and store them in a 3 layer plastic Snaplock container. Layer 1 has A2 sizes, Layer 2 larger sizes and Layer 3 small and strip sizes. I used to keep them in their original packaging but kept running out of room. This is working for me.
I store mine in a plastic box from walmart. I emboss a 4x6 blank index card and write the name of the folder on a tag and attach it to the card. I store the folder behind the card. I can't remeber what a design is called so havng the embossed image and the name helps me keep track.
Thanks! Several of these ideas a great and I am going to use them to consolidate the folders and dispose of the packaging. It takes up too much space.
I also need a reminder of the name of the folder so I can note it when I post a card in the gallery. People want to know what a person used.

I just use a cute little heavy weight box from the Dollar Tree. It's blue with white, pink, & rose flowers on it. I wish they would carry these again, as they are great little storage boxes. They do not have a lid but have a ribbon handle. They are about 6" x 4".
I don't keep the packaging either.

Thanks for the idea. I had a stack of old packaging that was waiting for me to somehow use to keep track of my folders. I used the sharpie, so easy. it is sometimes hard to write on my stuff, why is that?
I have mine in plastic photo storage boxes from Iris. They hold about 12-15 in each box. I have them loosely catagorized... baby, floral, words, etc. and the little boxes are all in a slightly bigger box with a handle that also holds my ABC plates.
I have two, pretty boxes with domed lids from Home Goods. One has my seasonal folders in, Halloween and Christmas. I know that throughout the year I don't need to go into that box, only when the holidays are coming up. The other one I have segmented for birthdays, verses, etc. and I just put my Christmas and Halloween stamps in the Iris cases, again, I don't need to go into them until the holidays approach and it makes room for MORE stamps in my cabinet.
I got everything needed to make the box, and intended to make it. But I was still moving in, and realized that my storage needed to be in a drawer or cabinet for now. Walmart has a section of office supplies in various colors (matching file folders, document keepers, cd holders, etc) so for now that's what I'm using. The CD storage is a PERFECT size for embossing folders and holds quite a few. Once my retired stamps are unmounted into the DVD cases I'll have more shelf space and will make a storage box like Wenchie did!
I did make samples of my folders though, like she did. They're in a book here in my room. The pics are dark-ish, but I'll try to add them.

It was a case of necessity- I (occasionally) went to get a folder, and would come across ones I had no recollection of buying, and they weren't getting used. And its much easier to flick through a sheaf of paper than keep getting all the folders out. It also helps because you can see what your background will look like before you do it,lol.
I have a shoe storage pocket hanging on my craft room door. The folders fit it the pockets perfectly and are easy to access. If I were organized - I'd have them in some type of order - maybe in some dream world.
My system is the easiest possible! I bought a CD storage shelving unit from IKEA. I use the top shelf for my dies in CD cases; since the shelf isn't full, the folders just sit on their edges on the shelf. I do label them with a marker. I prefer a fine line marker and the fine tipped Sharpie pens are not the same formula as the fatter ones and I find it wipes off. So I use a permanent Staedler marker you can get in a 2 or 3 pack in any office store. That baby is permanent and I've not found a surface it won't write on. Best pen ever!

I put mine in cd envelopes with the clear circle in the front. I put the flap up and label them. Then I put them in alphapetical order in a plastic box. I also made a list of all I have so that I can keep track of them and not buy doubles. Also included in this are the dies from PTI and Nestabillities. I have quite a few and this keeps them very organized and easy to find.
I keep mine in a large three ring binder. I have purchased inserts from ebay and from a local collector shop. I then display them by cutting out an A2 front in colored card stock and embossing the image. I place this in front of the embossing folder. I do the same for my 2x2 and 4 x 4 dies. I'm a visual person and it helps for me to see the actual images cut out as I'm leafing through the 3 ring binder.
Firstly I record my folder in a sampler that hangs next to my workspace. Then my folders are filed in a photo album with sleeves (with the name on the back and the picture from the package in the front and divided into seasons..spring..summer etc. My most favourite ones like swiss dot and SU lattice, that I use every day, sit beside my CB in a CD holder for easy access. The cardboard backing is used for shims or when I need cardboard for a project.
I bought a couple of hanging file CD holders from Staples and Target. The boxes comes filled with little hanging folders. Each of the hanging folders has a pocket on the front and back and are numbered. So far I have two boxes, one in red and one in cream.
I have a large ring with an embossed sample of all of the folders, divided by theme. I label the sample with the name of the embossing folder and where it can be found ( for example red box number 24). I also stick a label on the actual embossing folder so it is easy to put it back in the correct hanging folder.
When I buy a new embossing folder it goes in the next open number so I don't ever have to reorganize the actual folders. The sample can go anywhere on the ring so it is also easy to put like things together. The CD boxes have a hinged lid so the embossing folders stay clean.
I hope this makes sense. It is a little hard to explain. I got this idea from someone here and it makes life very simple. It is a good system that can grow along with my collection. The boxes are covered with a canvas like material so I can wipe them off if they need cleaning. They are a nice looking box so I often keep them out in the open.
I make my own storage boxes from old boxes (usually strong mailing type boxes). I just cut them on the diagonal or whatever is needed. I use Mod Podge to attach patterned paper to the box and finish it off with another coat of Mod Podge. I have pretty storage for paper, folders, etc. for virtually no money.
I also store mine in small child size metal lunch boxes. These little lunch boxes are the perfect size & add character to your craft space too! You can buy plain white ones @ Michaels if you like the look of simple. Me I bought some fun colorful floral ones from a dollar store for just $1. Got my Tim Holtz Seasonal ones in one. Everyday folders in another. Works for me!
By the way if you take your folders out of the packaging-don't throw away the plastic. I upcycle all my packaging material in my crafting. The plastic can be cut to any desired shape. I run mine through my cuttlebug all the time. Just be sure the side down on the foam part of the die is smooth- any rough eges should be trimmed. Feel the plastic & put smooth side down a few rough bits are ok as long as they face up so they don't nic your foam on the die. I have had no problems-but I am very careful too. Clear plastic becomes snowflakes, snowmen, journal pages, etc. I will be posting some finished projects on my cathies pARTies or cathies sweet spot blogs.

I use a CD/DVD Storage box I purchased at Walmart from their office supply area. This small box comes in different colors and it is a wonderful, compact, economical (about $7) solution as it holds over 30+ EF in upright positions. The cover lifts and has a ribbon inside to hold the lid wide open while I search for my EF. It defintively works great for me. Mine sits next to my big shot and cuttlebug machines.

Is that the black cd/dvd box @ the bottom of the Walmart page? That looks good too! I just moved into a teeny tiny condo & I'm trying to keep all my craft supplies out of sight which is in the main open concept living space. Trying to keep a 'normal' home decor look while every nook a cranny is full of supplies. I might look into this box. Thanks!

I run mine through my cuttlebug all the time. Just be sure the side down on the foam part of the die is smooth- any rough eges should be trimmed. Feel the plastic & put smooth side down a few rough bits are ok as long as they face up so they don't nic your foam on the die. I have had no problems-but I am very careful too. Another good use for the plastic folders is to use them as a shaker card. Similar to a snow globe. Stamp and color a scenary card then place the plastice cover over it with some flower soft inside of it and then cut out a frame around it to cover the edging of the plastic cover. A lot cheaper than buying the plastic dome covers.
I have mine on their edges in a drawer that I divided with foam core. If I have to put things into packages or files, it will never go away again. Having the drawers is like having open baskets, I can just slot things back in.
I don't have embossed images of anything stored anywhere. I can see from the folder what it will look like and if I'm unsure, there is always a scrap of paper somewhere (everywhere! :lol

I keep mine in a square metal lunch container (the kind you buy for crafting) I decorated the outside so it was pretty. For the inside I printed out a mini file folder pattern. I made them in 2 different colors (so they could alternate). I placed one side of the file folder in my embossing folder and ran it through my Cuttlebug. I then place the embossing folder inside the mini file folder and line them up in my lunch container. When I want to choose a folder I simply flip through the file folders and can see exactly what the embossed image will look like.
