CNY Stampers Get Together
Saturday, May 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse, NY

Do join us at our next Central New York Stampin' Get Together. It's a full day of stamping fun!

Cost – $25.00 per person ($27 via PayPal). Your registration must be paid no later than 5 pm on April 29. Mail your registration form and payment to me (info is in the registration form). There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else. Here’s what’s planned.

Mandatory Shoebox (Table) Project – There will be shoebox projects in the morning and the afternoon, so bring your idea and all the supplies (precut but not prestamped or prepunched) needed for making your project with a small group. Please use quality products. When our final count is in, you will know the table sizes and how many will be needed. You will need to bring four extra completed shoebox projects (which includes door prizes, hostess thank you, and one for your table so that everyone can follow it for directions). This project will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s). Please provide any special adhesive that's needed. So, just to say it another way: Bring 4 completed projects + make up 20 packets of materials needed to make your project. Extra parts to fix any "oopsies" should also be provided. Make these something you’d be thrilled to get yourself.

SPECIAL NOTE: Because you will be switching tables, but your projects staying behind, it will be important that you provide some basic directions for your project unless it is VERY obvious. Thank you!

Swaps – This time ALL SWAPS ARE OPTIONAL. You’ll know how many to make when we post the final counts, and you’ll have plenty of notice since the deadline is well in advance of the event. Each swap will include a +1 for a door prize. The hostess would also love to receive one of your swaps if you’re so inclined.

• Card Front Swap - Final Count in Post #9
Ginni (ginnijay) will give you some guidance on this swap. See Post #9.

• Recipe Swap – Final Count in Post #15
Janet (evilQmom) will provide more information about 6x6 recipes. Info is in Post #15.

• ATC Swap – Final Count in Post #13
Wendy (BearCollector) will tell you more about Artist Trading Cards. Check Post #13.

• SU! Demo Quality* Swap – Final Count in Post #8
Check with Kathy (khaynes) on this. See Post #8.
*This means only current SU! products can be used but you don’t need to be a demo to participate.

• 3D Swap – Final Count in Post #16
Kay (stamperkay) will tell you about this one in Post #16.

• Red, White & Blue Swap – Final Count in Post #10
Gayla (snowcountry311) will tell you about this one in Post #10.

Food – Please indicate on the registration sheet the food item you will bring to share. Please be specific; don’t just say “food” or “whatever you need”. Ideas: breakfast items, lunch items, including salads, desserts and snacks. We love to try your food specialties! Bottled water and coffee will be provided. Please BYO soda.

Make & Take for All – Because of doing shoebox projects in the a.m. and p.m., we will have only a limited number of large group projects. If you would like to provide one, please let me know your idea.

“Garage Sale” – Bring your stamps and stamping supplies to sell or trade. Current Stampin’ Up! items must be offered for trade only; you can sell retired items. Sorry but we can’t be responsible for missing items so bring things at your own risk.

Goodie Bags – for everyone! Everyone will leave with a bag of fabulous goodies. The goodie bags will all have the same value with some variations in colors, etc. Have some thoughts on what should be included? Feel free to let me know.

Door Prizes– Donations from our own group are always welcome so let me know if you’d like to make a door prize donation and what it is. We will be awarding the +1’s from all of the swaps and the extras from the shoebox projects as door prizes.

Gift Swap – You don’t have to sign up for this one, but if you would like to participate, bring a gift related to our stamping passion. Everyone who brings one will also leave with one. Value on these should be in the $5-10 range, and stamped projects are always appreciated! If it’s something you’d like to take home, it’s probably perfect! Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. Wrap it up prettily to encourage “stealing”. REMEMBER: Stamping-related!!!

Other Stuff – Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, including your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just can’t stamp without, like: bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, stamp cleaner and whatever else you can't stamp without! Did I say adhesive????? Adhesive! You will likely need lots of it.

Make and wear a nametag with your name and your SCS name so that we know you on sight. There will be a nametag contest this time so keep that in mind when you’re creating yours.

Don't forget your camera!

Complete the registration form and forward with your $25 payment ($27 via PayPal) by 5 pm on April 29. All funds collected will be spent on the event. Your registration is complete when your payment is received. If you have any questions, please ask! Looking forward to seeing you in May.

Swap Etiquette -- These are some good general guidelines that I found on SCS. I hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all make and receive wonderful swaps!

These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe".

1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments (please do use at least one embellishment and two layers), or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer. Last of all, quality means to use cardstock that is a nice weight not some flimsy stuff that has the feel of construction paper.

2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. Avery labels work great, but a plain piece of paper or your personalized stamp work just as well.

3) The only one of these swaps requiring all current Stampin' Up! products is the demo quality swap. All other swaps can use any quality stamps, cardstock, inks, etc. This is not the time to unload your cheap cardstock!

4) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!

5) Swap sizes: NVR card front & DQ -- smaller than 4.25 x 5.5, please. Recipes swaps are 6x6.

Please ask any questions you might have and someone will be sure to answer. We have all made a lot of great friends getting together at these gatherings so we hope you’ll join us at this one!

Resummarizing: Layers - at least two! Dig into those embellishments, give your fellow swappers a real treat! Put those punches to work! Have fun, try something different! Show some pride and put your name on the back!!

Swapping generally takes place after (or around) lunchtime.

lindylou1220 04-02-2012 03:24 PM

Food Info -- Please remember when making/purchasing your food item that you do not need enough to feed an army. There should be a very nice variety coming: donuts - cake - muffins - sticky buns - cookies - brownies - candy - chips & dip - specialty dips - casseroles/main dish items - salads and side dishes - bread & butter - cheese & crackers - fruit - and more.

So, my suggestion is to make/bring a "normal" amount not a super size. I am sure there will still be leftovers but everyone should be able to find something they like. If you don't believe that to be the case, please feel free to pack a sandwich. We do have a refrigerator and stove available and there are plenty of outlets to plug in crockpots. There will NOT be a microwave available unless someone brings it!

Drinks -- There will be bottled water and coffee. If you must have soda, please BYO.

REMINDER: If you are bringing something that is to be served HOT, please remember that there is NO microwave available. We will again have access to a refrigerator and stove (with oven).

lindylou1220 04-02-2012 03:24 PM

DIRECTIONS to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive. Get the specifics from mapquest.com or randmcnally.com. But, generally speaking, most everyone will be taking Rte. 481 (from 81, 690 or 90) and exiting at Kirkville Road WEST (exit 5W). Franklin Park Drive is way less than a mile from the exit and will be on your right. After the exit, you will pass one light, two gas stations at the corner where the light is, and a school (Bishop Grimes). The church is just a short way up Franklin Park Drive and will also be on your right.

If you have headed in the wrong direction on Kirkville Road and get to that light, you will see a church on your left and houses on the right. That's Fremont Road; turn around and come back the other way.

lindylou1220 04-02-2012 03:24 PM

Ronald McDonald House Donations

Please bring your extra cards and card fronts for donation to the Syracuse area Ronald McDonald House.

The House is also collecting soda can tabs, so I will have a spot to drop those as well.

lindylou1220 04-02-2012 03:25 PM

Other

When the event closes, this first page is where you will find all the updated info on the swaps, etc. Info will be updated as registrations arrive and the final details should be posted around 5/1.

Gift Swap -- Returning to wrap it up as nice as you please. "Snatching" encouraged as part of the fun.

Tables -- Tables are assigned randomly when you arrive. If you really, really (really) need to be with your friend (I'm saying this more for the newbies), we will try to accommodate you but the random assignments really do make for a good way to make new friends. Plus, you and your friend(s) will have different projects to share. Well, unless you're randomly assigned to the same table. Then, you're welcome to ask someone at another table to switch with you. You will be at one table in the morning and a different table (but with the same table mates) in the afternoon.

Post away!

Woohoo! Thanks Linda!

Now I need to find some friends to carpool with.

hlw966 04-04-2012 04:38 AM

I just read the details closer... shoeboxes AM and PM? Fun! Will we bring the same shoebox project for both AM and PM? Or do you not know yet (based on numbers)?

kmk24 04-04-2012 05:33 AM

I'm in please! I was just telling Judy that this would be the 5th thing scheduled that day if I could be in several places at the same time! You won!

Judy K 04-04-2012 06:19 AM

Good decision Karen ;) I'm in too please!

lindylou1220 04-04-2012 06:38 AM

@ Cheryl: Hope the wedding schedule works out so that you can make it.

@ Bo & Arlene: The red, white & blue swap will be "anything goes" but I expect that most will be making card fronts. We are still dreaming up the details but it is not meant to be a 4th of July swap. Bo, thanks for being the first to pay!

@ Heidi: See, I do listen. I anticipate that the shoebox projects will be the same am/pm. Each table will move to another for the afternoon so you'll get a 2nd set of projects that way.

@ Linda C, Karen & Judy: Glad the date worked out.

@ our swap hostesses: Thank you!!!

Hope I caught everyone and all the questions/comments. If not, LMK.
