CNY SplitCoastStampers Get Together #6
Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
First United Church of East Syracuse
823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse, New York
(easy access from Routes 81, 90 and 690/481)
Join us for a day of stamping fun!
Cost $15.00 per person ($16 via PayPal). Your registration must be paid no later than noon on Friday, September 28. Mail your registration form and payment to me. As usual, there are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else. Heres whats planned:
Swaps Youll know how many to make when we post the final count, and youll have plenty of notice since the deadline is nearly three weeks ahead of the event. Participating at least one swap (see below) is part of the price of admission so everyone must participate in a swap (plus the shoebox, also required). You can, however, participate in any one, some or all of the four swaps.
Card Front Swap: Stampin Up! products are preferred but other quality products are acceptable. I am the contact on this swap. See post #4, which also includes some general swapping guidelines.
Cardfronts - 26
Recipe Swap Nancy (njgrose) will provide more information about 6x6s. Info is in post #12.
Recipes -17
ATC Swap Jan (Jan Darrah)can tell you more about Artist Trading Cards. Check Post #19.
ATCs - 19
SU! Demo Quality* Swap Check with Diane (diane617) on this. See Post #5.
*This means only current SU! products can be used but you neednt be a demo. Diane isnt!
Demo Quality - 19
Shoebox Project Bring your idea and all the supplies (precut but not prestamped or prepunched) needed for making your project with a small group. Again, current Stampin Up! products are preferred but other quality products are definitely acceptable. Well break the shoebox projects into small groups (tables of 10) based on our final count. Tables will be set up to stamp the day away. You will need to bring four extra completed shoebox projects for door prizes and hostess thank yous. Participation in the shoebox is mandatory. A shoebox project will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s).
Shoebox - 4 completed plus 10 for your table to make (the 10 count includes you and you will also want to have a sample made up for your table)
Lunch Sign ups for food and drinks would be appreciated. Everyone enjoyed sampling others treats at some of our other gatherings, so please indicate on the registration sheet what you will bring to share. (Also see note below about Make & Take for All.)
Make & Take for All Earlier CNY gatherings featured several large group Make & Takes. If you would prefer to do this instead of providing a food item, please say so. Please pick one or the other (unless, of course, you want to do both!).
Goody Bags for all! Everyone will leave with a bag full of fabulous goodies.
Gift Swap If you would like to bring a wrapped gift (for those of you who are SU! demos, think hostess gift), we will draw for those so that everyone who brings one will also leave with one. Value on these should be about $5, and stamped projects are always appreciated! If its something youd like to take home, its probably perfect! This swap will be done Yankee Trader style. Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank.
Other Stuff Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, especially your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just cant stamp without. You will likely need lots of adhesive. Make and wear a nametag with your name (and your SCS name) so that we know you on sight. We will have another best nametag contest so make something fabulous! This is also a fun way to learn everyones names!
Items to bring: your favorite adhesive, bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, whatever else you can't stamp without!
Don't forget your camera!
Complete the registration form* and forward with your $15 payment ($16 via PayPal) by September 28. All funds collected will be spent on the event.
Linda Tarolli (lindylou1220) 6760 Schuyler Road East Syracuse, NY 13057 [email protected] 315-416-9558
************************************************** ****************** *The registration form is attached as a Word document and a PDF (thanks, Kirstin).
Remember to register and pay by noon on September 28!!!
Directions to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive. Get the specifics from mapquest.com or randmcnally.com. But, generally speaking, most everyone will be taking Rte. 481 (from 81, 690 or 90) and exiting at Kirkville Road WEST (exit 5W). Franklin Park Drive is only about a mile from the exit and will be on your right. You will pass one light, two gas stations at the corner where the light is, and a school (Bishop Grimes). The church is just a short way up Franklin Park Drive and will also be on your right.
If you have headed in the wrong direction on Kirkville Road and get to that light, you will see a church on your left and houses on the other three corners. That's Fremont Road; turn around and come back the other way.
FOOD INFO: Those who came to last fall's get together will remember that we had LOTS of leftovers but the May event was better volume-wise. Please remember when making/purchasing your food item that you do not need enough to feed an army. There should be a very nice variety coming: donuts - cake - muffins - cookies - brownies - chips & dip - specialty dips - casseroles/main dish items - several salads and sides - bread & butter - cheese & crackers - fruit - and more. There will be bottled water, coffee (including decaf), assorted sodas and, of course, candy for the tables.
So, my suggestion is to make/bring a "normal" amount not a super size. I am sure there will still be leftovers but everyone should be able to find something they like. If you don't believe that to be the case, please feel free to pack a sandwich. There is some (limited) refrigeration, but if items to be served cold, especially the sodas, could arrive on ice that would be very helpful. There are outlets to plug in crockpots. There will NOT be a microwave available unless someone brings it!
REMINDER: If you are bringing something that is to be served HOT, please remember that there is NO microwave available.
And, if you are bringing drinks, please bring them iced in a cooler.
There is a fridge and stove (with oven) available.
Swapping etiquette -- Since we will all be swapping at least one item (card fronts -- info in this post, demo quality card fronts -- post #5, recipes -- post #12, and/or ATCs -- post #19), I "went shopping" here on SCS for some good general guidelines. Here is what I found and I sincerely hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all give and receive wonderful swaps!
These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe".
1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments, or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer.
2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. I usually use an Avery label for my info, but a plain piece of paper works just as well.
3) The only one of these swaps requiring all current Stampin' Up! products is the demo quality swap. All other swaps can use any quality cardstock, inks, etc.
4) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!
Card front swaps:
**A card front is cut 4.25 x 5.5
**Minimum of two layers of quality cardstock, including base
**Please use at least one embellishment (brads, eyelets, ribbon etc)
**NVR (no vendor restriction)
If there are questions, I will paste them into this post with the answers. Thanks to all who help answer the questions!
Happy creating.

Reason: CLOSED
They are lots of fun and I am hoping I can drive the 254 miles to play and chat with them again (I did it in May and it was worth every minute it took to get there --- and it took 4 hours and 15 minutes!)
ATC = Artist Trading Cards (miniature works of Art, traded between Artists. Yes, that's you!)
ATCs are 2.5x3.5". Please be certain to use quality cardstock, at least two layers and one embellishment or dimension. They should be made with care, something your are proud to trade and would be enjoy receiving. The number of cards you will need to make will be announced when we know how many would like to participate. Make an extra one for yourself as you will not get your own back. If you have or make others bring them along as there are many who enjoy trading.
On the back of your creation please put your name (real and SCS) and contact information. Please package your bundle of ATCs in a Ziplock type bag labeled legibly with your name(s) for the gathering. Your stash of swapped ATCs will be returned to you in that bag.
Please PM me if you want to join the swap.

I have added everyone who's responded here and updated info in Post #4 on swapping. An asterisk next to your name in the sign up post (#3), means that payment has been received.
Kirstin, I got the file and got it open...until I had a computer crash. Now I cannot open it. However, I do have a laptop and should be able to access it from there so I will try to get it posted later today. Thanks for doing that.

Yes, shall I remove those question marks?
I am thinking you better, I will squeeze it in.
