Are you available to come to my house and clean/do laundry? LOL Bless your heart. Hope today is better.
Well yesterday I didn't end up scraping my husband and I ended making (not what are you all thinking no big boys at home) Michael's goals for the year. He has gotten himself into alot of mischief these past weeks and we are trying to make a plan on what to do with him to keep him out of our stuff. I think I have a plan in mind but I don't know where to come up with the stuff. I am going to make a room called Michael's safe room (he loves his name on things). In this room I wanted to have things like a real digital camera (his) I have seen children's versions of these but I was hoping like if someone upgraded their real camera I could find one but I don't know where. I real typewriter either electric or manual. I real vacuum either like a dirt devil hand held or something like that. Also like an old cassette recorder. Things like this.
Sherri bought him a kids microwave last year and he sleeps with it and he loves it. This year she is going to buy him a kids mixer for Christmas. Because obviously these things he can't really have. Though he does cook with me in the kitchen and loves it. He does have his own hand held mixer that he uses only in the kitchen.
So this was my day to try to figure out the mind of an autistic child. It took the whole day. No answers still.

That sounds like a great plan. I have a standing "vacuum" that I got at WM for around 29 bucks which plugs into a battery/wall adapter. It is really a sweeper, but my little GS 4 loved it and ran it around all day long! I cant remember what the name is, but it is full sized and would be found by the vacuum cleaners. I guess it is a step above the dustbuster.
Check the Salvation Army or Goodwill for old cameras and appliances. If it is something you dont want plugged in, just cut off the cord.
My GS loves stuff like flashlights, projectors that shine on the wall, and stuff like that. What about old cell phones or laptops that only have a game on them or something like that? Calculators, clock radios, little boom box.

I can't cut the cord. Then it wouldn't work and he would be upset. He is good about plugging things in thank goodness. He loves all that stuff. Old cell phones we have to take the batteries out of because once he called 911. He has 4 old cell phones and he loves them all. Flash lights he is constantly taking apart. I don't know why but he loves to take all the pieces apart. You know the little Jesus loves you that they get at like VBS the size of a finger? Well even those he takes apart. We only have one flash light that my husband bought as a set with his drill. It is a huge one and has a battery pack since it shines a light but doesn't really look like a flash light he looks at it but doesn't take it apart.
I bought an old radio from goodwill it was broke he fixed it. It worked then he took it apart and now it doesn't work at all. We have gone through about 13 little CD players since we have had him (5 years)He loves them to death or he wants to see how they work. That is what the issue is....not that he breaks things to be destructive he is trying to figure out how things work. He didn't break my camera to be destructive he was trying to figure out what made the lens go in and out.
I have been to the goodwill but most of the things at ours are kitchen appliances I haven't seen any cameras, vacuums, boom boxes that would be great. Thanks for the heads up on the vacuum at Walmart that might be a good Christmas gift.

OK Janet, the name of the little sweeper is a "Shark". I am positive it was under 30.00. Totally harmless and recharges with a wall plug but runs on batteries.
Gatlinburg anyone? I love chatting but dont want to lose momentum here on the plans. Has anyone come up with prices or hotels options that are better than the original cabins that we proposed?
I am calling today after I teach my class. I didn't get out of work on time Monday or Tuesday to be able to talk to a manager at the hotel that I was going to call about. Sorry...
I am interested in coming. March works best for me, because of the TN weather. I am not a snow driver, even though I have a 4x4. Now that I think about it, the part of TN I am from, we hardly ever have any snow. The kiddos weren't out of school for any of their snow days. I am going to see if my mother wants to come to.
Thanks Ellen for the name of the Shark. I will check it out.

I am from Murfreesboro. What part of TN are you in?

I have added a list to indicate who has expressed serious interest. This list is most likely head of a room, as most are indicating bringing a group with their sign up. As we move closer and decide on a definite date, we will try to get a complete headcount for the day room needs.

Ellen,
I think this is a great idea b/c each person will need a room for their group. So hopefully we can guess right now on a number of rooms to give to the hotel and be able to tell them that we just started the planning stages.

Thanks Janet! I don't get TOO many great ideas, but every once in a while one just pops into my head......usually has to do with going to the craft store though

Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge anyone? We are looking at late Feb early March 2009. Who's up for it? We are a fun group aren't we? Boys have Superbowl we have stamping...seems fair to me.
Early March will be better for me, since my anniversary is the end of February (20th) and I am trying to talk my hubby to going on a cruise or down in the caribbean. This will be number 10 for us and with my recent illness, what to really celebrate it this year!!!
ooo-ooo subscribing. I'd love to hear what you all are planning! I'm in northern kentucky and go to Gatlinburg area every once in a while! So, have you decided on cabins or a hotel? There are some places with huge cabins that accomodate stuff like family reunions. Some even have their own indoor pool. I'm not sure how many people you are thinking you'll get, but you can check out this site. www.abigchalet.com and www.yourcabin.com

Welcome! I put you on the interested list. Softangelkisses, any input on hotels yet? I would like to get ballpark prices so we can see if it is workable instead of cabins. Cabins are cosier, but our problem is not day rooms.
I talked to a friend and she might be interested depending on the date chosen. March 7 is my ten year wedding anniversary. Its not totally off of the table, but I'd have to check with DH. We plan to go away for a few days, but probably in February rather than march bc we want to avoid spring break crowds.
I'd be interested in hearing about the hotels and how the conference center works. I was worried there might be a time the conference center was off limits(like during the night). I can stay up half the night if I get on a roll. LOL.

We are fine with that as long as we know how many so we can arrange an adequate room. We may need to take small $$ toward day room if they are charging us extra for it.

That will depend on you and how many people you want to bump elbows with. Each group will book how every many rooms they need to accommodate. I will try to get some definite hotel info by end of the weekend so we can firm up our plans. Definite hotel and definite date, then we can start making personal plans and reservations at will. If you then say have 1 room reserved and more people want to come, just call and get another room.

You deserve it Jamie, you work so hard with all these swaps and I think a cruise is wat the Dr. ordered. We took our older two daughters on a cruise and we want to take the two little ones soon. Now I am jealous!
