Default What do you use to store your paper??

I know that this was briefly touched upon as a follow-up question in a previous post... but I still had a couple of questions about how everyone stores their paper.

I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to store 12x12 paper in a container that can be completely closed (vs ie. the target cubes that someone mentioned). I'd like to find a closed container of some sort, b/c I'm going to try and set up a stamping/scrapping place in our unfinished (but still well-lit basement). I just want the paper to be safe.

Also for the 8.5x11 paper that some people store in the hanging folders... do you get special acid/lignin-free hanging folders (if that even exists?) or just use the regular ones from an office store - does it really matter? I'm still new to it all but getting ready to expand my paper supply and just wanted to do it right! TIA ~Maria

What I've seen my demo do is use the large plastic accordian style scrapbook paper holders. You can get them at any craftstore and maybe even WalMart or Target. One thing you can do if you chose to use these is sort them by color catagory for easy access that way. I know that she needs for her to be eaily transportable so I don't know if you are looking for something more permanent than that. Good luck findint something that works for you!

I store my 12x12 in those Plastic Craft Keepers. The shut on the top and keep the dust off. I got mine at Walmart because I only needed 1 of them now. Stampin Up sells them in packages of 3 for I think $7.95. Really a good deal but I didn't need 3 and nobody I know stamps on 12x12. Most use the 8 1/2x11 to Scrapbook in.

Default Storing 12 x 12 papers

I dont know if its the best way. But I have a cabinet with 6 drawers.
It has wheels so I can move it. The drawers are large enough to store
all my 12 x 12 papers. Made of heavy plastic. Company that makes it
is IRIS and I got mine at Office Max. Think I got it on sale for 30 something. I have my stamp room down in the basement. Even through winter when it was damp and cold down there......the papers did not
get moist.

I got a nice archival safe box from the Container Store. It is a little pricey ($14), but since I like 12X12 scrapbooks, it is perfect for all of my pages and paper. Plus they look nice on a shelf - no clutter. Browse their site; they seem to have a few other solutions as well. Here is the link:

Target sells a mini-footlocker that I think would be great for holding 12x12 paper. I don't know the dimensions of it.
Might be worth looking into though.

The Container Store has a wonderful plastic box called "12x12 Paper Storage Case". It's actually 14" square and 3 inches high. The top is hinged (doesn't come off completely) and it's wonderful! I store my 12x12 cardstock in Target cubes and patterned paper in this Container Store container.

Hope this helps!

I'm with Joleen on this one, I don't buy 12 x12 paper! I just haven't wanted to start scrapbooking yet! I get 8 1/2 x 11, and store it in an litature holder I bought at Sam's, for scraps I keep in a hanging file folders, label with the color name. I am also in our unfinished basement and haven't had any problems keeping my paper uncovered. Hope this helps some!

Thank you so much for helping me out with my paper question. I posted it late last night, and was excited to see the responses today. I can't/shouldn't sign in at work, so I had to wait to post tonight. SCS (and all you wonderful ladies!) never lets me down when I come up with these questions late at night I will check them all out, and am sure I will come up with a great solution.

Default Hmmmmmmmmm...you can purchase

cubies at Costco that are made of wire and make up to 9 cubies, using the dividers as individual shelves. They only cost about $15 and can be configured into any shape you need.

I have one in my son's room and one in my office/stamping room now and LOVE it.

I have tried to scrapbook on 8 1/2 x 11 pages, but it just doesn't seem to fit enough "stuff" on the page, so I have decided to stick with 12 x 12's for now, since i can fit more pic's on a page.

Wish somebody would develop a nifty little 12 x 12 storage file folder as I REALLY love my 8 1/2 x 11 file folder system I purchased right after I signed up as a demo. Before I even had my first order, I had these WAY cool little file labels with the color of each of the SU 48 colors on each label. All I had to do was add a file folder and WHALA...perfect organization! OH how I WISH they had something like this for 12 x 12's.
Perhaps someday...maybe I need to get busy and create one. LOL

I posted a picture of my paper storage containers on June 17th if you would like to take a look at those...this would be for the 8.5 x 11 paper. I use the heavy duty 12 x 12 paper holders that others have talked about for my other vellum and paper but I dont have nearly as much of that as I do our other 48 colors.

They do make 12x12 hanging file folders. I just can't remember where I say them. Maybe at my LSS.

When I remember I will post here

Default Thank you Nessa and Soozie

I too had been looking for a better ay to store my 12 x 12. Both of these solutions look great. Now I just have to decide which one I want. Choices, choices...what fun not to have to make do!

Default What do you use to store your paper???

I bought a workstation from Michaels that holds 12x12 paper. It rolls, has a couple of slots to hold your scrapbook or other magazines or catalogs in it and a removeable bin. It is perfect, it sits at table height so I don't have to bend over or hold the container in my lap to sort thru the colors. It comes with hanging file folders and you can order more if needed. Here is the website to look at it. It was not cheap but if you have a coupon for 40% off it is easier to justify.

I had been stumped by this too and had been looking for quite a while. I thought about cubes, stacking tray, etc. But I wanted something that has a lid to protect the paper form light and I wanted a file style system (ease of organization and access). I finally found the Cropper Hopper at Michael's. It is a large removable container with a hinged lid. It holds 12 x 12 hanging files folders--which can also be purchased at the CH web site. It's on a rolling cart that also has side storage pockets and a shelf. It's pricey, but w/ the coupon it's not that horrible. I really like it so far.

Just my opinion on the hanging folders...I used to store my paper like this and kept my scraps at the front of the folder...BUT, it was always easier to just pull out a full sheet and use that. I bought the cardstock holders that SAMS sells--about $15 and they hold 12 sheets and then I bought some aluminum 8 1/2x 11 baking pans at the dollar store. I put my scraps in these pans and keep them on top of the cardstock with each color. I now use my scraps First when I need a small piece and my cardstock doesn't get bent from hanging funny. It's a little bit more expensive of an option, and takes up a bit more room--although I stacked four of the cube on top of each other, so it's not too bad, but I've found for me, it works best. I just use the metal target cubes for my 12 x12.

I keep my scraps in a ziploc bag at the front of each file folder. I have a folder for each color. Depending on the size cardstock I need, I look in the baggie first.

I don't scrapbook, so I only have 8.5x11 paper. One of my coworkers gave me a cropper hopper that she'd outgrown as she added to her stamping arsenal, and I keep my paper in there in its original wrapper. I still have space for a few more color packs, but it's just about full! I suppose if I stamp more often and use up more sheets of cardstock, I'll have room for more colors!

I saw a picture of someone's stamping space where she had set up a couple of those cardboard mail sorters along the back of her worktable. I'd thought about doing that myself once I get a proper craft room, or my hopper runs out of space -- whichever comes first!

Default Paper Storage

Hi! I have been looking for paper storage ideas and came across a company called Highsmith. They deal primarily with schools and libraries, but they also have corruboard storage options. Here is their website for corruboard storage: http://www.highsmith.com/webapp/wcs/...0001&langId=-1

If the link does not work, you can go to www.highsmith.com , click on corruboard/dealer sales and then click on products for the pull down menu. I currently have 2 4-drawer supply chests that I use for my non-SU! cardstock and paper. Each drawer can fit 12x12 paper and reflects the rainbow (ROY G BIV). I combined the Indigo and Violet so I can put vellum, metallics, white and black in one drawer and neutrals/browns in the other. For my SU! paper, I plan to get some their jumbo paper tote. The tote has multiple slots to separate and stores 12x12 paper.

I am fairly new with scrapbooking but works for me is the Crop in Style 12x12 Paper taker.
Plus i have a couple 12x12 craft keepers and those are mainly used if i need to take paper to a crop.

Yesterday, I received my Cropper Hopper Vertical Scrapbook Paper Organizer from QVC. I love it! It looks like a standing magazine holder with 12 plastic dividers that you label. It holds 12x12 paper in a verticle fashion. The beauty of this, is that you can pull a piece of paper out, without the paper on top coming with it. I bought four systems for each SU color family. I know they are out of stock right now, but keep checking the QVC web site. I'm sure they'll restock due to the popularity of the item.

Just another idea...

Thank you again for all the helpful suggestions So after checking through all the options everyone threw out there, coupled with the fact that I need to be able to close the container in the basement, I decided to try out the cropper hopper workstation. The Michaels store near me even gave me a 40% off coupon, so I figured, why not??. I hope it works out and gets me on the path to organization!

Default Archivers

I found 12x12 file folders & hanging files at Archivers. They wrre Making Memories brand. Since I use a cube system for my 12x12, the file folders work great. I label the folder and slide it in. I have one for each set of SU! background paper and then for each color group.

Default 12x12 storage

I bought a 12x12 photo album (inexpensive one) and used the page protectors to put my printed papers in then I just flip through them when needed.

I am also looking for a way to store the 12x12 card stock in a filing system. I guess I could do the same with the cardstock that I do with the printed paper but it is thicker and that would make for a heavy album.

Good luck!!

I may be too late for you but you can purchase 3 plastic drawer units at Walmart for $8.99. They stack up I have 7 . You can label the drawers and place your cardstock there. I do like the Cropper Hopper system but I am concerned also about the dust and the openess. I have some of those from QVC. I also have a Cropper Hopper Cart that holds 12x12 hanging folders. I place my stickers or kits that are a little bigger than 12x12 they don't fit in the drawers. I love the Cropper Hopper sleeves for stickers and embelishements that are flat.
I'm telling you the Walmart units are the way to go. Place them along side each other on a long shelve in your stamping space. Easily accessable to you. You will love them and at that price you can't go wrong. ;-) ;-)

I'm one of the folks who use the wire cubes you can get at a variety of places. I bought several sets and use the extra pieces as shelves. I take the extra pieces, adjust them to the desired height and use tie-wraps to secure them. I use 3 tie-wraps on each side of the shelf, equally spaced (i.e., 9 tie-wraps per shelf). I can also put the shelves in vertically if I want to use the space that way but I like the horizontal shelves. I use Friskies cartons as trays (I actually painted some of them so they are really cute) for 8.5x11 paper. I made my own trays out of some leftover cardboard boxes from a recent move..these are big enough to hold 12x12 paper. The bad thing was that I couldn't find a way to separate the different colors conveniently. My move was to Houston, Texas so I was worried about humidity and bugs. OK, both problems resolved themselves when I discovered 2 gallon zipper bags. 12x12 paper fits PERFECTLY into them. Now, I pull out the tray and flip through the baggies to find the right color. They will hold a hefty stack or just a couple of papers and they aren't too expensive if you buy the store brands.

Best of luck!

Default Here's what I use...

I asked my mom to buy me literature organizers from staples last year from christmas. The ones I got came with four stackable pieces and a top, so each box had enough to store one color family. Then when the colors changed, I asked my husband for a fifth set so I could put my neutral colors in. This works great to see how much card stock you have. I have a ziplock type bag that I bought off of some web-site for when I do stamp classes that holds and 8-1/2 by 11 sheet and I put all of my scraps in that. The front is open and my stamp room is a sun-room, so I have bought a piece of vinyl and used sticky velcro to attach it. I cover the front when not in use. I don't have too much 12x12 card stock, but I bought two 3 drawer plastic storage containers at wal-mart that will hold a 12x12 sheet and I use one drawer for each color family, one for neutrals and one for printed papers and scrapkits, recently stocked up on cs for scrapbooking event so I am running out of room now. But my friend is just getting started and she bought the exact same 3 drawer containers. The drawers come out so you can set them on a table if you need to. These are sterilite brand.
