An alternative way to package handmade cards as a gift:
I bought a new Playtex bra and it came in a clear plastic bag, with a hole at the top to well, I guess to hold on to it by. It also has a white snap closure at the top. The clear plastic is reasonably heavy. It looks a bit like a smallish lunch bag. Hopefully, you get the idea. Well, turns out, A2 cards fit in there perfectly. Once you take off the label with the bra size on it, it's a really nice clear plastic sack for gifting cards with.

I know there are many ways posted to help with the "first stamp image", but I have found a way that will not stain your new stamp! It will make you cringe, but try it! Take a look:

I have to laugh, I work in a call center, and got monitored one day and I was trying to sell an upsale item (a laundry drying rack) and said it was perfect for hanging bras on. This was apparently considered not quite the thing to say (I'm sorry BRA is a perfectly good work, lingerie or undergarments are just too cutesy for me!) Ever after, the QA person and I had a thing about BRA- I worked up a great going away card for her when she left using many many BRA words. So, I had them in my head anyway, and had to jump right in here!

I was browsing your site and love this idea.
I don't even use the foam blending pad now but only because I could not stand to have them disorganized. I might have to start now. Designing Duos: Featured: Organizing blending pads!
I came up with a homemade version of SU's new "Candy Dots". I pressed a small strip of colored cs into Versamark, embossed it with clear embossing powder, then punched out 1/4" circles. I used the rounded tip of my white gel pen to mound each one up a bit and attach them with glue dots. It does take more time, but I can make any color I want. This would work well with colored embossing powder too.

recycle reuse, recreate.............fun
I am ever so guilty of saving things to recycle and love doing that I enjoyed coming up with ways to reuse------- now I have to as I have PROMISED hubby I will not buy anymore craft stuff- the trade off, I get to RETIRE.......I have been home one week and am still pinching myself..............into housework and walking and biking but will get to my cardmaking scrappin soon............shut off my morning alarm clock and enjoying life.
congratulations diecuts4u! That sounds fantastic. I'd make that trade, too ;-)
My recycling tip is another babywipe one.
I'm saving the colorful ones and in addition to using them for backgrounds and layers I make cute little flowers out of them
Cut rough circles out of the babywipe.
Hold the middle of one down wiith your tweezers or awl and use your heatgun around the edges. ATTENTION mine started giving off white steam, that smelled like the baby wipe. I have no idea if that's harmful, so do it somewhere well ventilated.
Do that with all your circles and you'll have irregular wrinkled petals. Stack them from big to small and poke a hole in the middle with your awl. Sometimes I'll leave them on the awl, hold upside down and blast with the heatgun again.
Now put a brad through the hole and you're finnished with a quick lightweight embellishment.

I found a brass stencil craft video at the thrift store and was wondering how I might color sheet-rock mud. Do you think acrylic paint would work? Hey, Lindsay, have you tried this?
I'm so excited. I went to a new type of a thrift store called an Goodwill Outlet this last weekend with some couple friends of ours and found all kinds of ephemera like scrabble tiles, bingo cards, belt slides, dominoes, scrapbook paper, old Valentines, gift tags, jigsaw puzzle pieces, etc. They throw everything into rolling bins and don't keep anything together except for shoes, so one has to root through the bins for the goodies which I found at the bottom. Told my girlfriend what I was looking for and we had a grand ole time grabbing the bits nobody else wanted. Now I can try the collage look and it didn't cost me much. They charge by the pound.

I bet you could color sheet rock mud with acrylic paint. Do you happen to have any old Doc Martins concentrated water colors or calligraphy ink around from years ago when that was popular stuff? That would work great, too.
I hardly get to peek in here any more. My new home is still absolutely fascinating to me so I am always decorating it. I got a notification for this thread. I just wanted to pop in and answer the question on sheet rock mud.
Yes, you can color sheet rock mud with any kind of paint you can think of. I know this since my DH's company makes it. I get "mud" free all the time.
I have to admit hearing it called sheet rock mud made me laugh hard. I haven't heard that term in a long time. I make my Gesso & Modeling paste from "mud". I have mixed "mud" successfully with acrylic's and oil paints. I had minor success with watercolor paints. I did pretty well with reinkers. I learned a lot of my techniques from beautiful tutorials on the net and just playing.

I have gotten the waxed linen at Ms - not much in the pkg though. Here's an online source: Shipwreck Beads - Search: Waxed Linen There are many - this is my local source.
I'm not sure what the "pin bails" are but a search of the above store may yield what you need.
Fire Mountain Gems is a great source with good customer service. They have copper foils and a wide selection of pin bails. No waxed linen that I could find, but waxed cotton cord in several sizes and colors.
Thank you. My husband ordered the copper foil for me online. He forgot to ask me what width and got the 1/2 inch instead of the 1/4 inch. Oh well. And the girlfriend that sent me the link above suggested using tooth floss instead of the waxed linen thread since I couldn't find it. She said the only bad thing with using the floss was that I would have to knot the ends, then touch it with a bit of tacky glue to keep it from coming undone, unlike the linen thread.
A pin bail is a pin and necklace loop made together so one could wear the domino book either as a pin or necklace. Tim uses a ball chain as the necklace chain. I found that at Walmart in the bead section.
sorry if this is a repeat but i love using them. the inside of coors beer cans are blue and they make pretty metal embelishments and i have not found a shortage of people to drink the beer for me and have even found someone who saves cans for me

A year ago my dad spotted "2009" Christmas cards in the after-Christmas sales. They were cards where you could add your photo. They were 5x7 and also sported a really pretty silver, white or blue ribbon. Boxed in packages of 10, he got them for 50 cents!!! I took off all the ribbons and saved all the envelopes - he bought me 12 boxes and I haven't needed to buy 5x7 envies since! The cashier thought he was nuts since the cards said "2009" all over them until he explained he was buying them for his crafting daughter who wanted cheap envelopes. I put all the ribbons in a ziploc container - they're perfect since they are a nice width, the perfect length, and easy to tie and and be done! I love it. I also saved the boxes, covered them in paper, and had 5x7 card boxes for gift sets.
I would have saved the cards too and glued a die cut or other embellishment over top of the 2009. In fact I probably would have cut a fancy label from fancy (or plain) card stock and stamped the current year on it.

I often buy old xmas card or even baby invitations at dollar stores or liquidation world store just to punch from the pretty papers or keep the embellishments and envelopes.
It is a very good resource!
Say, I couldn't afford to purchase the copper tape online right now, what would you have suggested I do to replace the copper tape? On Tim Holtz' Page Sage video, he makes a domino book. The copper tape is the edging around the outside of the dominoes. He used alcohol ink to "paint" the backs of the dominoes to make them the new fronts, then stamps it with permanent ink. I was thinking of perhaps using paint markers to color around the edges or using a ribbon cutter to slice aluminum foil tape into strips, which I already had & coloring it with copper colored alcohol ink, but I wanted to hear your ideas. After all, this is suppose to be a make do thread, isn't it?

This will only be a "make do" if you already have the supplies, but you could "paint" the edges with a Krylon Gold Leafing pen. You could also gold emboss the edge. Just a couple thoughts off the top of my head.
I have often taken a Versamark pad and went along the edge of a paper, domino or acrylic piece and then added the color of embossing powder I preferred and then heat set it. You might have to do a couple coats, but it gives a nice finished look.

I was thinking maybe you could use Aluminium baking foil- coloured either with alcohol ink- theres a Copper mixative-, or a copper Krylon pen if you have one,or use Vernas suggestion of Versamark & copper embossing powder onto baking foil? Another, bound to be cheaper way of getting copper foil tape, would be the gardening section of local stores. You can buy it to put around plant pots to keep slugs off your plants. I found some in our local Pound shop!
There is a product called Rub-n-Buff that you can rub onto things to make them a different color. I have used the gold on old silver colored fittings on a cupboard I refinished. It was easy, the result was perfect, and I think a little tube (which goes on forever!) was maybe about $3. It's a nice metallic finish. It's simple.
Dick Blick has it for $4.49 a tube, but I bet you can find it locally. I bought mine maybe 9 years ago, it's still usable. Check it out online.
I have been looking for white-only bakers twine but, can only find color/white. Where cab I purchase white bakers twine for my cards? And...what ply is it?
