Default quick question

Okay...so I've been slowly buying SU stamp sets when I could afford a set here or there ...and now my collections growing.

I have a question though...how does everyone store their stamps??

Rigth now, I have my stamps in the same clear container it comes in; and then stored into clear plastic containers stacked up on one another. But, I'm finding that this is a PITA because when I know I have a certain stamp, I have to hunt through all of the boxes; take them all off of each other, open it, then search through each box. what a time waster.

please help!

I put the name of the stamp set on the side of the box (do this when mounting the set, sad that I threw that part out the first few years I bought stamps - but a sharpie does the trick). Then I store all of my sets on the side so I can see the names (like reading the spine of a book in a book case). I also group the sets by theme (alphabet, background, greeting.....) so when I go to look I am starting in about the right place. Oh and one of these days I am going to put an X on all the retired sets so that when I am planning a new Demo I can skip right over those.

hope this helps.

I keep them in the clam shell cases they arrive in. Then I take my labelmaker and make 2 labels one for each end of the box (the name of the stamp set) and apply them. The label that comes from SU goes on the long side of the box. This way I know how many in each set. I PLAN, when my digital camera returns from the shop, to take photos of each set and print them. Then add then under the stamps (on bottom facing the clear side) so I can see them all and know what is missing.

Also, I just ordered and rec'd a bunch more of the clam shell cases. I took all my loose stamps from various companies and placed them inside the cases. On each I made 2 more labels now with the term MISC- and theme. For example all the non-SU birthday stamps are labled MISC - BIRTHDAY.

I keep the stamps in a cubby (like a bookcase with 24 divided sections I had in my last classroom that was made for me) by theme. One cubby has Christmas, another Birthday, another Alphabets and so on.

When I want a Christmas stamp, I pull out all the boxes out of the Christmas Cubby and view them. I never have to open them, since I store them with image side not rubber side up. I like the fact the cases keep dust from gathering on my stamps.

By adding the labels, I can change the method of storage at any time.

Just my 2 cents...
Arlene

What restraint! I never thought of slowly adding to my collection based on my ability to afford the purchases, what a concept!

I stack mine on a shelf according to the size of the case, then alphabetically, with the name of the set facing out so I can see what's what. I only have about 50 sets (so far) so it's fairly easy to keep track of them this way.

I used to keep them inside a filing cabinet drawer, but I was constantly forgetting what I had. I really like to be able to actually see them, it helps when I'm thinking about what to use for a project.

I've been keeping them in the plastic boxes but I'm ready to stop doing that. The only reason I have been doing it is for re-sale value. Those plastic cases just take up so much dang room it's not funny! So I'm going to organize the rest of my SU sets like I do all of my other stamps, by catagory. It's much easier that way! I'll save the plastic cases and have a stamped image of the stamp set inside of the box so I know what goes where when and if I ever sell the set later on down the road.

Someone suggested this on another post. It may seem like a lot of work at first, but should saves tons of time in the long run.
* Stamp a sheet of ordinary copy paper with each set you have.
* Put the sheets in a 3 notebook. (page protectors would be good too)
* Mark each big tub/container of stamps "A", "B", "C", .... etc
* Mark the pages in the notebook with the letter of the tub where that set "lives."
