I have a few hostess $'s to spend and I need to decide. Can anyone steer me in the right direction, or will this cause a huge debate? lol. Also, I want to thank everyone for their generous help. Every ? I have asked has rec'd many useful and helpful answers. Thank you!
I think I would go with the pencils first, maybe later the crayons. I have the pencils, not the crayons, yet, as I have 2 other sets of crayons which are not SU and I have used more the watercolor pencils
just my 2 cents

Yet another gleeful vote for the crayons! It is a great way to enjoy coloring and all you need is water instead of blender pens or mineral spirits and stubs.
Crayons, for sure. For all of the reasons that others have mentioned (option to color directly on stamps, to blend better, 48 + neutral colours, etc.). I've never regretted my investment. And I got great results from using them right from the start, even without much practice.
What I like the most about the crayons is that they sit on top of the paper (whereas the ink will dye the cardstock) and you play around with the color and blend it even after it has dried. It gives great shading and is very forgiving, as you can go over the colour and dilute it and change it if you don't like how it looks. I would definitely recommend pairing the crayons with the Aquapainters for best results.
You can also use crayons to do makeup, if you have children (or if you're in touch with your inner child).

Take the crayons because they match all the SU colors. The pencils are just a nice selection of WC pencils. You could get those anywhere.

The crayons come in the same colors as the ink/paper and they can be vibrant or muted. The pencils do not match the ink or paper and they are alway muted (you can never get vibrant colors with them).
To get the smaller areas with a crayon, I just use a wet paint brush directly on the crayon to pick up the color and transfer it to the image.
I would choose the Water Color Pencils, but I prefer the Derwent brand of pencils. Many more colors to choose from to go with what ever I'm working on.
Welp, I went and ordered the crayons. I decided to start with the Earth Elements. I got the ink pads (classic...hope I did the right thing!), the Stampin Write Markers, and the crayons. I have this kind of obsession with Michelle Zindorf's work and it seems she uses a lot of those colors, so I thought I would start with those and pretend I can even begin to emulate Michelle, LOL! If I'm lucky, I'll try to maybe get a color family a month...or a quarter. We'll have to see.
Cindy_Canada...that is really cool. I never would have thought it could look so much like a watercolor painting! Neato!
Thanks again for all of your help, everyone! You never leave me disappointed!
I have both and I use the crayons more. I think you will be happy with your choice.

Wow! I love the samples shown ~ and now I'm going to have to play a bunch more with my crayons!!
I think it was the OP who mentioned she's getting markers so should she even get crayons or pencils ~~ ABSOLUTELY LOL ;) !! Markers are just a necessity after all - heehee!! Try the SU markers on w/c paper with the aquapainter ... totally fab!! Here's the first one I tried that way.
Yep, I use my SU markers on WC paper ALL the time, except I hate the aquapainter so I just use my SU blender pen ~~ love the vivid color I get. I don't have any of the crayons, although I did just borrow 2 from a friend to try out. They're all right, but she gave me pastel colors so it's hard to tell if I would like them or not.
Here's a card I did with the markers & blender pen....
