get the shank off a shaped button to use it on a card?

they cell that tool at micheals ect or any craft store

I use, very carefully, a sharp blade. If you lean the blade into the button, then there isn't any of the shank left sticking up. But I did once cut myself, so the carefully is important!!
I've also heard that a toe-nail clipper (bit stronger than a finger-nail one, LOL) does a great job.

Go to Wal-Mart and get a pair of dikes. These are flat bottom wire cutters and they will nip the shank off the button. You can also file them down with a Dremel and take off any rough edges too.

This what I use as well. I use a smaller version of the wire cutter tho that I bought in the jewelry making supply section. It fits easier into my hand and has pretty pink handles.
