Default Copyrights

I have a question. I was just in a gallery and over top of a photo, that contained no artwork, the watermark said "copyright2008."

How can somebody copyright something that uses items from stores like IKEA, or even cards using stamps from companies such as CTMH, or SU?

Just curious! The idea in the pic has been used many times, not sure how it can be copyrighted when it contained no artwork or original designs?

i think in that case its not the idea thats copyrighted but the photo. as in can't take that persons photo and use it without their permission.

hope that helps.

I'm assuming from your description that this is a photo of a stamping space? They are copyrighting their photo itself, not the items within the photo. Anymore, you never know who will harvest your photo, and perhaps they don't want that sort of photo used on about.com in an article about organizing, kwim?
